4 YAHRZEIT PLAQUES: Remember your departed loved ones throughout the year by putting their name on a Yahrzeit plaque. The plaques are located on the wall at the rear of the Temple sanctuary. Every Memorial Plaque bears the name and Yahrzeit date of the loved one. The Memorial Light adjoining the plaque is illuminated on every Yahrzeit and Yizkor service of the year. Those individuals who have a memorial plaque in their honor are also listed in the Yahrzeit section of our newsletter with an asterisk next to their name. If you are interested in purchasing a Memorial Plaque, please contact the Temple office by phone at or us at tbshalom@gmail.com. The cost is $250 per plaque. We continue to strive to maintain accurate records of your loved ones passing so that we may honor them appropriately. Lay-led services are scheduled April 13 and 27 at 7:15 p.m. Rabbi-led services are held Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. at the Jewish Home. Sisterhood Book Group meets Wednesday, April 11, 7:00 9:00 p.m. at the home of Mickey McLane. The book for discussion is The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish. Set in London of the 1660s and of the early twenty-first century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city; and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history. As the novel opens, Helen has been summoned by a former student to view a cache of seventeenthcentury Jewish documents newly discovered in his home during a renovation. Enlisting the help of Aaron Levy, an American graduate student as impatient as he is charming, and in a race with another fast-moving team of historians, Helen embarks on one last project: to determine the identity of the documents scribe, the elusive Aleph. Electrifying and ambitious, sweeping in scope and intimate in tone, The Weight of Ink is a sophisticated work of historical fiction about women separated by centuries, and the choices and sacrifices they must make in order to reconcile the life of the heart and mind. All women are welcome to attend this group. Please contact Mickey through the TBS office at tbshalom@gmail.com if you plan to attend. TBS Board meeting is rescheduled from April 8 to April 22 at 9:00 a.m. For information about religious education for children at TBS, visit the web site, or contact Lisa Foer at or lhfoer@aol.com. 5

9 Notes from the President... As I try to formulate my thoughts I am interrupted by sneezing, time out to tend my nose, and realizing we are coming to the end of the flu season. Hopefully my sniffles are just that and soon to depart. I am grateful all this held off to allow me to enjoy Passover with my family on Friday night and my Temple family on Saturday night. Carly shared her wonderful voice and her talent in joining Robin and Lisa to lead our Seder. Everyone participated in the readings, including the youngest in our midst. Then we ate. The volume of food we had made me think we should have fixed a plate for Elijah to enjoy with his overflowing cup of wine. While he was not able to join us, Rabbi Choper shared his thoughts for all of us through a letter that I read to our members and guests. We also had the pleasure of hearing words from Rabbi Cytryn read to us by Dale Kaplan. It was a night of celebration, friendship and peace. As we move further into spring we look forward to a solemn time beginning with a ceremony by the Holocaust Memorial at 11 a.m. on April 8, followed by Yom Hashoah hosted by Temple Ohev Sholom later in the week. We still need readers between midnight and 1:00 a.m.. If you are able to read during that time, please contact Jennie Kornfeld at jennifer.kornfeld@verizon.net. On Mother s Day I am looking forward to our Annual Spaghetti Dinner, with food, a raffle, baskets to bid on, and more. Please check the website for more information.
