3 KHILAFAT Sayings and incidents of our beloved Khulafah LOVE FOR BOOKS I had a fascination for the collection of books. When I was a child I used to collect books of fine and beautiful covers. When I entered an age of understanding, I used to select books with a great deal of care. WHAT HAVE YOU TAKEN FROM ALLAH TONIGHT? A companion of the Promised Messiah as, Hazrat Sheikh Ghulam Ahmad Sahib ra narrates that one night he decided he would spend the entire night in worship of God Almighty at the Mubarak Mosque in Qadian. He said when he arrived he saw a young person bowed down in prayer. The emotion of the scene was such that the narrator said that he himself started to pray to God that whatever this person is asking, Allah may grant it to him. He continued by saying he did not know for how long before his arrival the person had been bowed down in prayer but whilst he was there this continued for a long time. Finally when he arose the narrator saw that it was Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad ra. He said that he immediately went to meet him. Hazrat Sheikh Ghulam Ahmad Sahib ra inquired: Tonight what have you taken from Allah? Upon this Hazrat Musleh Maud ra replied, I have only asked that may Allah grant me the ability to see Islam as a living religion. His reply illustrates how even from childhood Hadhrat Musleh Maud ra shared the grief of the Promised Messiah as over the state of Islam. We each offered our own prayers in our seats. Initially, we offered Zuhr and Asr prayers, then later Maghreb and Isha and finally Fajr prayer shortly before we landed. 4 Sports from around the country HEALTH & SPORTS TAHIR MAGAZINE SPORTS MEDAL OF THE MONTH Tahir Region Team C Tahir Region, Team C North East Hike, Peak District KEEPING A BALANCED DIET Tahim in TEAM GB colours in front of an ice hockey rink My name is Taheem Javaid - I m 9 and in year 4. I have always loved sport and started playing lots of different sports when I was just 4 years old. My favourite sports are ice hockey, Puck and Ball inline hockey, field hockey, squash, swimming, cycling, running/ athletics, hiking and rock climbing. Through regular training I have (with the Grace of Allah) improved so much over the years, that I now play many of these sports at competitive national/county/regional level. Alhamdolillah! Sport makes you feel happy, keeps you healthy and fit and enables you to make new friends. 03 The Blue Peter Badge With the Grace of Allah my biggest achievement so far was to be chosen for the Under 10 GB Team in Puck Inline hockey. If you are wondering what Puck inline hockey is, then imagine ice hockey, but without the ice and on roller/inline skates. My team and I headed towards California for the Junior Olympics in summer I was 8 at the time. It was an absolutely amazing experience to go to America and play hockey against some of the best Junior hockey players in the world! It was a real honour to be there and represent Great Britain. We won 3rd place in the Junior Olympics and received a Bronze medal! Alhamdolillah. After the Junior Olympics we visited many of the beautiful places California has to offer. I really enjoyed visiting Palm Springs, high up in the mountains or spending time on the beach building sandcastles and jumping over the waves. It was amazing to see wild dolphins and whales when we went out on the sea by boat and I will never forget the fun we had at Universal studios. I also really loved being at Baitul Hameed Mosque in Los Angeles. They have a basketball court there and I had great fun playing basketball with my roller skates on! I made lots of new Ahmadi friends there and Baitul Hameed Mosque is also where I started offering my morning fajr prayers very regularly. I will always remember the fun time I had in California. Atfal enjoying a day of sports Because I love sport so much I wish to inspire more people to try new sports. I was invited by the BBC to take part in Blue Peter, where they awarded me the Blue Peter Sports Badge. It was so exciting to go to the Blue Peter studio and meet all the Blue Peter presenters and be on TV! Sport makes you feel happy, keeps you healthy and fit and enables you to make new friends. Archery at the Explorer s Club Islam tells us to eat and drink but keep a balanced diet. This is because our health can be affected if we do not take care of what we are eating. It is not a good idea to eat too much of the same thing because then the body begins to lack the other important nutrients. The human body only requires a certain amount of calories per day. Going over this regularly results in the body storing this extra un-needed food as fat, causing health problems in the long run. EATING MANNERS WASH YOUR HANDS SAY BISMILLAH EAT FROM THE FRONT WASH YOUR HANDS Washing your hands removes any kind of dirt, keeping you free from germs. Always begin with the name of Allah and thank Him for the meal you are about to eat. You should not eat from all over the plate. Instead, start from the front and work your way back. At the end you should wash your hands so that they are clean and do not smell. 04

They have been visiting them, giving gifts and caring for them for the day. Atfal enjoyed the experience and the elderly residents were all extremely grateful and happy with the gifts and the surprise visit. 06

Ali recalled that he had been discussing this with his Nazim Atfal a few days before. So he and Tauqeer sat down to talk about why we need a prophet? It s what God does whenever mankind forgets its Creator. He sends a prophet to bring people back to the right path. Tauqeer took notes on how the Promised Messiahas came to revive Muslims, who had started to do un-islamic practices. 07 The Promised Messiah sas time is mentioned in the Holy Qur an. Apart from this God showed the eclipses so that people would know that the Messiah has come. 08

7 The Holy Prophetsa said that the Messiah would appear near a white minaret. This place would be east of a city called Damascus. Wow! I never knew all this information before. Maybe I can find some of his books and learn about how he brought Islam back to life. During the Promised Messiah sas time there were many comets that fell on Earth. This was to show the coming of a Prophet. Damascus Qadian When he went back home he asked his Parents about the Promised Messiahas. They showed Tauqeer his picture and also told him about all of the fascinating books he had written. Tauqeer learnt heaps of information and soon it became clear to him that these books were written by a prophet of God. 09 Islam was in need of revival as the Muslims had started fighting among themselves and split into 72 different groups. Yaar! I am definitely going to improve my urdu so that I can read more books of the Promised Messiahas. 10

9 HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED? about anything at all? I d like to think so. The human brain, the solar system or another of God s wondrous creation has hopefully, already captured your imagination. Or maybe it s a question which keeps you occupied. The kind of question which returns time and again to bug your brain, bringing new thoughts and ideas with it each time; how on earth did they build the pyramids in Egypt 4000 years ago? How have humans come to speak so many languages? If you think about them enough, ask the right people or search in the right place, you can eventually find a reasonably satisfying answer. The purpose of the Have you ever wondered section however, is to tackle a different kind of question. The kind which may not have completely clear cut answers or which have not yet been answered in a way tailored to Atfal. They may be philosophical questions such as who created the universe? or why does God allow suffering? Alternatively, The purpose of the Have you ever wondered section is to tackle a different kind of question... TARBIYYAT they can relate to the sphere of actions, behaviour and how best to deal with certain situations. By this we mean those situations which we come across every day at school etc. which can be quite difficult to reconcile with our religion. The Tahir Magazine team have visited many parts of the country and met countless Atfal and young Khuddam. As such, we will draw on the experiences of your fellow brothers who are either going through the same things as you or have recently passed through them, to provide you with support and advice on how to deal with life s many challenges and the difficult questions it throws up. All we ask is that you participate actively with us in this endeavour. You can get in touch with issues you would like us to tackle. The Holy Prophet sa -the most perfect man- never caused harm to people even when they behaved rudely towards him. We should follow the example the Holy Prophet sa set for us and show patience all the time, just like he did. We should remember that we can always try to learn from other people s mistakes by not doing what they are doing. We should try to ignore such people s bad and upsetting talk and pray for them to realise their mistakes. But if they ask for forgiveness, we should forgive their mistakes just like the Holy Prophet sa used to do. If you forgive others Allah the Almighty will be pleased with you and he will reward you by forgiving any bad deed you may have done and he will make you a better individual! (Insh Allah) My Mercy covers all things The Holy Quran WHY CAN T WE HAVE GIRLFRIENDS? EVERYONE THINKS IT S COOL! One of the basic rules in Islam is that both boys and girls must do Purdah. Yes, even boys have to do a form of Purdah that they must remember at all times. Purdah for boys is to avoid looking at girls around you beyond the degree of humility. Good morals are trying to avoid problems altogether before they happen. We must therefore, get used to Purdah while we are young, so that later on when we grow up and get older Purdah becomes much easier for us. Through Purdah we can also avoid many problems we may face while being near a girl because Purdah draws boundaries for us that we cannot cross which are there to protect us from sin. Being able to do Purdah will make us become better Muslims in the future, it will also please Allah the Almighty because we are following His instructions! Purdah is a very important rule in Islam for everyone. That being the case, having a girlfriend can never be seen as something right or cool! 13 14
