1 Abu Yahya al-liby: Algeria and the Battle of Patience (October 18, 2011) On October 18, 2011, Al-Qaida's As-Sahab Media released a video message featuring top spokesman Abu Yahya al-liby titled, "Algeria and the Battle of Patience." Addressing the message to his Muslim brothers in Algeria, and to his beloved ones, the brave knights and heroes of the battlefield there, he stated: France withdrew its armies but her greed remained and her plans lived on in the joints of Algeria like deadly poisons." In the name of Allah the Most Merciful the Most Compassionate. Praise Allah, and prayer and peace upon the messenger of Allah, and thereafter: Ummah of Islam: peace be upon you and Allah s mercy and blessings. I direct this message to my Muslim brothers in Algeria, and to my beloved ones, the brave knights and heroes of the battlefield there, thus I say: The scholar Abdul-Hamid bin Badis, may Allah have mercy on him, was not blowing in dust and screaming in a valley when he uttered his blazing words, which some took as singing and did not understand its richness as he said: Take the weapon through life and cross hardships unafraid, and raise the light of justice and righteousness and crush who invades. Let the souls of the unjust taste poison mixed with terror. Uproot the roots of the traitors as they are the base of the error, shake the souls of the still, so may the wood would [itself] revive. This is the system of our life, drawn with light and ember. These lively words were uttered by the tongue of the insightful believer, looking at the future horizons with the ferocity of the experienced expert, whose heart ached and was crushed by the various events under the tutelage of a dark, barbaric, monstrous and greedy imperialism that has stolen the land, violated the honors, humiliated the people and poured over them lava of crimes like meteors, thus dishonoring life and its meanings, and transformed it into a land without life, and tore apart a nation and disparaged its people weakening them, slaughtering their sons and eliminating their men, and violating their women, and those who survive have been between extreme poverty, extra marginalization, humiliating imprisonment and intentional damage. And if Allah had not provided for the Algerian people who are determined and rational and who prohibit corruption, who raise the banner of Jihad, and who stand steadfast before the bitterness of the floggers, Algeria today would have been French, linguistically and mannerly, in loyalty and identity. But Allah safeguarded it.

2 A period of time of more than one and a quarter centuries of rigid suppression and increasing corruption was enough to create consecutive generations that were raised up by that repugnant imperialism, feeding them its milk. Thus, they came out praising the Christian France, and remained lost in the darkness of thoughts and gone astray as a result of torn loyalties, without a specific identity nor a distinguished personality, running behind a despicable, lowly nation that raises bright banners; mercy at the forefront but torture in the interior. A nation [of people] with hearts that do not understand, with eyes that do not see, with ears that do not hear those are like animals, and they are even more misguided than that, those are the oblivious ones people who know what is apparent in life but oblivious toward the afterlife. The most honest of descriptions of those people is by the Most Knowing: they enjoy (this world) and eat as cattle eat; and Fire [hell] will be their abode. But, with the grace of Allah, despite the length and intensity of the calamity, the Muslim Algeria remained with the doctrine of its sons, determination of its men, insight of its scholars, sacrifices of its youths and the purity of its women s upbringing. It remained throughout all of these complicated decades resisting and defiant, wrestling and defending, walking its march with obstructed steps but never falls. And as it finishes stitching a wound, another appears, and as it overpasses a disaster, another befalls it, and not one generation is gone without handing the banner to the next. With the grace of Allah, it stood steadfast and high in the face of the estrangement and damaging storms, not veered or shook, and each time a corruptive one appears, and each time the snakes of deception move between their holes, Allah dedicates wise, defiant and loyal men who would unveil their cover, unravel their secrets, scandalize their deception, and crush their hole over their heads, calling the Algerian people Muslims and descendent of the Arabian people. When France crawled over the Algerian land, its journey was not just a tourism trip or for means of reform, but it has been torture for Algeria and the Algerians upon their souls, honors, money, economy, religion, culture, education and their identity. And it aimed at hurting those patient people to achieve its goals, and crush and eliminate them, and with all humiliation and injustice recruit them for her service in achieving her goals. And the oppressed people could not escape between the teeth and horns of that clear, external, monstrous imperialism except after tearing themselves apart and with sacrifices that certainly prove that our Muslim peoples, regardless how long they get estranged and damaged, and regardless how far they drown in darkness, marginalization and dazedness, but in totality they remain grasping on their Islamic roots, and do not accept the imperialist occupier that destroys their faith but builds their streets destroys their morals but manages their administration; displaces their sons but strengthens their buildings, as it [Ummah] only sees him [occupier] as darkfaced and aggressive with strange, Western identity.

3 This is from the meanings of distinction and comparativeness that remained hidden in the hearts of our peoples, sometimes due to their weakness, and which the media and its magicians try to uproot what remains of them [meanings of distinction] under the slogan human brotherhood and other slogans made up by their devils. This is due to their knowledge that the absence of these meanings means destroying the meaningful and solid barrier that stands between them and the easy achievement of their goals. And the Ummah has not been impacted except by the hypocrites and weak-hearted who surrendered their faith and sold it in the markets of cooperativeness cheaply with a handful of money. They allied with the enemies of Allah the Almighty, and tried to compete with Allah and His messenger and fought His allies, and thus they became an asphalted, facilitated road to pass on the criminal plans of the infidels after they had torn apart the most solid connections of faith, which are loyalty and enmity by Allah [meaning, loyalty to allies of Allah and enmity towards the enemies of Allah]. [Verse] France withdrew its armies but her greed remained and her plans lived on in the joints of Algeria like deadly poisons pass through the veins, achieved by her cooperatives and generals after they stole while the loyal ones were inattentive the high sacrifices that were offered by the Muslim Algerian people, and paid for the price of their liberation and dismantlement from imperialism with their blood and flesh and money, and sacrificed all they could, and bore what they could not bare, in order to enjoy a righteous living and take shade under a pure Islamic rule under which they could catch their breath after the long journey of decades throughout which their eyes had blistered, their hearts crushed, stomachs clinched and bones weakened. But, as soon as the night of that imperialism began to go away, its darkness began diminishing, unveiling an ugly dark face that is more dangerous to the Ummah than its predecessor, and more deadly to its [Ummah s] religion, doctrines and morals, and greedier toward its resources and wealth, and more manipulative of its history, and more hateful toward its sons. Those riffraff that masked themselves from their faith, humiliated their people, stole the sacrifices of their revolution and awarded themselves with fake medals and commemorated the heroism of the ancestors whom they uprooted [thereafter] with their betrayal and cooperativeness. [Verse] After the long bitter journey of sacrifices, France is still imperializing Algeria, invading its territory, controlling its people even if they celebrate liberation day and commemorate independence day. The faithful and the insightful realized this great catastrophe and knew that the musky blood that were spilled on the defiant land of Algeria a century and a quarter ago, those criminals wanted it [land] to grow a moldy Zaqqum tree [which is a tree mentioned in the Qur an, grows in hell as food for disbelievers] by their betrayal, feeding on cowardice, grows only heads of deceptive, criminal and shameless devils and worship of pleasures.

4 The elite honorable ones refused to see the efforts, suffering and dedication of generations go to waste under the heavy boots of cooperatives and beneath the shade of lowliness, so they stood in the face of France s generals and the devil worshippers in Paris, even if they pretend to be faithful in Algeria; as the righteous, smart believer is not a fool who would believe the glitter of appearances or would be tricked by the glorification of titles. What would the anguished people do with fake medals or silly titles held by grudging hearts that mask Kufr, and even show it and boast about it before witnesses [Verse]. That grudging group threw itself in the lab of imperialism and began executing the imperialist programs on its behalf, and its alliance hasn t broke since the alleged independence until this very day. France and with her the West remain planning while their agents in Algeria are executing; the countries of the cross give commands and their slaves in Algeria obey, as truthfully they became their loyal soldiers and allied cooperatives [Verse]. When the honest ones saw what Algeria is being led toward, they raised the banner of loyalty to the doctrine and the faith and protection of the honest fathers and grandfathers sacrifices, and they rose in the face of those abusers with resistance and weapons, power and steadfastness, spears and tongues. As they faced them with the truth, and halted them with reality, the cooperatives unveiled their tusks and extended their arms and tongues with evilness, and showed what they had been hiding of dark hostility toward the faith and the faithful and returned to practice the acts of their caretaker, France, and even added and doubled that, and they suppressed the people and their vanguard scholars and mujahideen with killing and torture, imprisonment and displacement, vandalism and destruction, and thus became like their masters. They do not see the believer s reasons or covenants as they are the aggressors. This is the same as Jihad by which Allah distinguishes the malicious from the benevolent. The fire of war was set ablaze between two opponents who disagreed by their Lord, and two teams divided by their religion. The believers fight for the cause of Allah, and the disbelievers fight for the cause of the tyrant. The truthful sect stepped to the side of the Tawhid banner, supporting the clear Sharia, raising the words of the Lord of the Worlds, seeking to rescue the weakened and purify the countries from the corrupt oppressors. And the falsehood sect stepped to the side of their allies and disbeliever brothers who add to their suppression, and thus they became their obedient soldiers and loyal servants. Their faith is pleasures, their Lord is lust, their intention is corruption on earth and their strength is suppressing the poor weakened ones. They are two teams: one team is guided, and a team is rightfully misguided as it has taken the devils as allies aside from Allah but they believe they are guided.

5 O Muslim people of Algeria: yesterday, in regards to France you were the model in strong determination, baring hardships and patience in catastrophes, and you engaged in a fierce battle from the longest contemporary wars against a barbaric, butcher enemy, and you didn t weaken nor relent, nor did you ease or calm, but the convoys of sacrifices continued and the convoys of your martyrs went forth defending the faith, uprooting corruption and corruptors. And the long war has awarded you a glorious inheritance of meanings of heroism and defiance, and rise above the nonsensical matters, and taught you a deep lesson that the injustice that s accompanied with force and weapons cannot be removed without confrontation and resistance; as today you are invited, just as you were yesterday to stand alongside your honest, loyal sons to rescue Algeria, your country, from tyranny, and to remove it from the darkness of injustice to the light of justice, from the humiliation of bitter dependency on the West to the glory of true independence, from the narrowness of slavery for the gang of generals to the wideness of true freedom through worshipping the Lord of the Earth and the Skies, and from the hell of man-made laws to the joy of the Muhammadi Sharia. So rise up with your sons and bring back your uprising against a fragile, shaky regime, as life is chances, and the winds are winds of change, and relenting and settling won t work with it. Should your winds blow, take advantage of them, as after each storm there will be calm, and don t sit away from contributing to it as you won t know when calm will come. So, revolt O defiant people in the face of injustice and tyranny with higher determination and stronger challenge in order to overthrow this moldy regime that stole your revolution, wasted your wealth and enriched your enemy with your money, and caused you poverty and forbade you to have the best of your resources, and opened your country for the [entry of] the bastards of the West to enjoy your resources, and made your honorable sons displaced around the world asking for peoples help. It will only be one outrage by which forces will coalesce and determinations will coordinate and confrontation will elevate, and this cooperative regime s determination will collapse, its strength will go away and its pillars will fall, just as your neighbors in Tunisia and Libya overthrew the worst of today s tyrants and figures of Kufr, and, by Allah, you are no less [worthy] than them neither are your tyrants more merciful than their tyrants. Be aware not to miss on your chance by living in the delusions of an alleged freedom that are but lies of the media outlets. And ask your neighbors about the shackles and stockades they were in, and what torture they endured throughout these long decades when they had thought they were living in joy, comfort, advancement and luxury. So when they revolted in the face of those tyrants and abusers, they advanced to gain part of their dignity, they discovered the astonishing truth and they wondered about how they could have been patient under the ruins of humiliation and weights of cowardice all these decades!

6 And in this occasion I say to our revolting Muslim peoples in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya: what you have achieved in your revolutions against the titans of today is a great step toward the correct direction, but much more is still before you, and the breeze of freedom you enjoyed the scent of after your revolution is followed by muskier and more relieving breezes; it is the life under the shade of the Sharia of justice, mercy and Shura with all of its restrictions and rules; it is the Sharia of the Qur an. It is the Sharia of faith, righteousness, honesty, loyalty and the determined ones aren t content except in the high [degrees]. [Verse] Before you there is one of the gardens of faith, quietness, wideness and joy, so continue the heavy walking toward it and do not be content with what you have accomplished as you deserve more than that, and the gift of Allah to you is proximal so don t exchange it with another, as that would be the highest of disappointments. And do not be busy with the riffraff of the civil state neither with the darkness of the democratic regimes, nor by the mazes of the official ways, as by Allah it is all a waste of time and waste of efforts, and even a waste of the fruits of your own revolutions. Be aware of slipping in them as you saw and experienced the arenas of liberations and weapon clutching, as you accomplished in a few months what the voting boxes and lies of representatives did not throughout long decades. After all of that, who would exchange what is good with the low? How far are the fundamentals of the devil from the Sharia of the Most Merciful? How far is the darkness of the ignorant rules from the light of the faith of the best of humans? [Verse] O our Muslim people in Algeria: your mujahideen sons who accepted on themselves to enjoy living in the valleys, mountains, deserts, forests and wilderness, and stood steadfast throughout the confrontation with that suppressive regime, and confronted it with their solid faith and steadfastness, and offered continuous sacrifices that which you keep offering; those are who carry your responsibility and highly care to rescue and liberate you and sacrifice the valuable to relieve you, and have stood to die in your defense, as their true happiness is in standing along your side, strengthening your ranks, welcoming and supporting you, and their jihad is but your jihad and their victory is yours. [Poetry] Their battle against those abusive Pharaohs, no matter how long it lasts and heats up, the end Allah-willing will be for that patient, steadfast sect [Verse], and soon the words of Allah the Almighty will be recited in Algeria [Verse]. Be patient O brothers of faith and doctrine. Continue on your path and dig through your path with the light of truth in this dark night. And be impacted neither by the fewness of your attacks nor by the estrangement that surrounds you, nor by discouragement that seeks to shake you, as, by Allah, you are moving forth on the path of guidance, intending an honorable

7 cause, and fighting under a pure banner. He who requires reasons from us will be argued with and he who confronts us we will confront him, and isn t this one of the Husnayayn. Would these high titles and elite positions be gained with low motivation and collapsed misguidance? You have begun to see the fruits of your long patience with the expansion of your blessed Jihad tree branches, to extend through the empty desert and create shade over the Muslim Nigeria, whose people know only patience over the barbaric massacres and mass killing, and you issued them a good year as you alerted them toward the path of salvation and guided them to the path of deterring the forces of the infidels and the abuse of the apostates; it is fighting, nothing else. [Verse] And today, you are taking your position within the truthful sect that confronts the international Kufr and fights against it with the axe of truth so it can fall crushed with its fake civilization, scandalized and ugly, so atop its ruins the banner of truth can be raised, held by the clean hands and welcomed by the blood-drenched chests. So go ahead on your path and break the veils of injustice and tear apart the links of apostasy with solid steps, good planning, constant harmonization and solid determination, as you are ready for the nation of war do not surrender it until Allah rules between you and your enemy, and he s the best of Judges. [Verse] I end my statement by offering my condolences and consolation to my brother, the Shaykh who speaks the truth in the face of the tyrants Ali Belhaj may Allah protect him on the martyrdom of his son may Allah accept him in the higher paradise. We ask Allah to award you and your family patience, and to connect your hearts and gather you with him in heavens and in the place of honesty by the Most Capable Lord. And our last supplication is praise to Allah Lord of the Worlds.
