1 Dear Members, By the time you receive this copy of the Magazine, we all would have celebrated the Eid-ul-Adha, so a very Happy Bakra Eid to all of you. This past month, the Managing Committee of Karachi Club has put up a record number of programs for you and on behalf of Managing Committee I hope you enjoyed all of them. A number of programs have been arranged for you this month and we all hope that you will enjoy these programs. TV Lounge of KC has already been renovated, Steam/Sauna bath, Snack Bar and work on swimming pool are in the process of being renovated, and hopefully most of these facilities will be ready in the next couple of months. 2 Entertainment On 14th, August 2016, Entertainment Convenor, Faheem A. Sakrani and his sub-committee organized the Jasn-e-Azadi Mela at Karachi Club after a number of years. The event started with the flag hoisting Ceremony which was attended by the President Karachi Club Mr. Ashfaq Yousuf Tola who hoisted the flag along with Managing Committee members Mr. Faheem Sakrani, Ashfaque Ghory, Yasir Farooq, Shoaib Amin Dhedhi, Sohail Yaqoob, Shahid Abdullah, Amin Durvesh and a number of members and their families. All the members of Managing Committee members present were smartly dressed in traditional White National dress along with waist coats. Club The Mela as has been a tradition was attended this year by a record number of members and their families. There was face painting, jumping castle, cartoon characters and much more for children. There were a number of stalls selling various items at subsidized rates for the members as well. Later a variety show was also held which was hosted by Ghalib Kamal and Sana Amjad. The show had everything for everyone, from comedy skits to National songs by a number of singers like Tehseen Jawed, Naeem Abbas Rufi, Shazia Khushk, Salim Javed, Lucky Ali, and Nudrat Mughal. As mentioned earlier, a record number of members and their families attended the program and it went well beyond 2 am in the morning. Hats off to Faheem Sakrani and his team for putting up such a fantastic program.

3 Club Squash KC Jahangir Khan Open Ranking Squash Tournament which started last month from 8th August 2016 at the KC Squash Court. Following are the results for each category Mahveer Tai (Winner) & Salman Younus (Runners up) Mahveer Tai (Winner) & Hamza Polani (Runners up) Swimming Pool In line with tradition, the KC Swimming Pool Committee organized an Intraclub Swimming Competition on 13th August More than 150 participants entered to compete in various categories. There were 7 group in Beginners category and 9 group in Regulars. This time around, the championship was organized on the same day for both the categories and in an effort to make the event better. Karim, Honorary Secretary Karachi along with Mohammad Amin Bawany, Convenor Squash and other MC Members were also present on the occasion. official s duties were outsourced. The well organized event was graced by the Chief G u e s t M r. M a j i d Khandwala. He along with MC Members gave away the medals and group champ trophies. The event was marked with enthusiastic participation of swimmers and their families which came to an end with sumptuous Hi-Tea for participants, their families and other guests.

4 Quiz Rama Over the years the Grand Quiz Rama shows have gained immense Popularity which was evidenced when a packed capacity crowd of KC Members participated in the Second Grand Bumper Quiz Rama Show on Saturday, 20th August 2016 which offered fabulous cash prizes to the winners on every card, the snowball house of Rs. 200,000/- was equally shared by 5 Winners. The sponsors wholeheartedly Health & Fitness On 4th, August 2016, Convenor Health & Fitness Ashfaque Ghory along with his sub-committee organized yet another program on a topic which is now become a common issue specially among the older generation. Professor Dr. Aziz Abdullah a renowned professor conducted the program in such a fashion that almost every member who attended went Club par ticipated to make the show a great success. Full credit goes to the Convenor, Mr. Amin Merchant and his Sub Committee Members who won the hearts of all the members for a memorable evening full of excitement, entertainment and fun. Spicy & tasty food was available for all, studded with enchanting Music for all to enjoy. All done & well done. home with a wealth of knowledge. As usual Mrs. Najmi M e h m o o d Co nduc ted t he p r o g r a m. Incidentally Mr. Ashfaque Ghory was the acting President of the Club at that time and he presented the memento to Dr. Aziz. The event was followed by dinner.

5 Club Billiards & Snooker Billiards & Snooker Committee of Karachi Club under the leadership of Shahid Abdullah organized KC Singles Handicap Snooker Tournament from 18th July till 3rd August 2016 in the Billiard & Snooker Room of the Club. The tournament was open for all age groups and more than 100 p l a y e r s participated in t h e e v e n t. S a l ma n B i ll o clinched the title whereas Asad Kamani was the runners up. Prize distribution ceremony was attended by MC members along with Ghani Usman, Chief Guest. Literary On the evening of 27th, August 2016, Convernor Library and Literary Commitee Mr. Khalil Bachani with his sub-committee organized an evening with the legendary Mr. Zia Mohyeddin. Mr. Hafeez Memon Conducted the program. Mr. Khalil Bachani ensured that the program started on the given time and as is the tradition received the legendary speaker. A program as refined as this cannot be explained in words. Huge number of members and their families attended the event. Mr. Jawed H. Karim, Hon. Secretary Karachi Club presented the memento to Mr. Zia Mohyeddin and later Mr. Khalil Bachani presented the Vote of Thanks. A v e r y e x c l u s i v e program as is the case in any program of M r. Zia Mohyeddin and at the end of the talk members gave a standing ovation to the legend. It is important to note that it is so important that programs like this are organized on a regular basis so that our new generation gets to know about the literary achievements of our writers and poets. A big thank you and to Mr. Bachani and his team for having invited such a legend.

6 Club Mr. Ashfaque Ghory, Convenor Maintaince Karachi Club along with his sub-committee has put in a great effort in changing the face of the Karachi Club TV Lounge. Now the Lounge is elevated in theater style with a huge TV Screen. The capacity of the room has also been increased keeping in mind the ever increasing number of visitors to the Lounge. Lights at the bottom of the stair case has been installed to give the right effect. Ameen Afzal Billoo (T-9340) expired on Monday, 11th July 2016 IT S A TOUGH LIFE (This Article was originally written by Majid Khandwala in the Newsletter of September 1994) I am a Karachi Club member. I decide to devote an evening entirely at the club. I arrive at 1600 hours and start of with tennis. I of course change into my designer tennis outfit and have a game with my graphite Dunlop Promax racket. Then I go on to play badminton and squash. I am told that my Reebok have coloured soles and as these could leave marks on the courts I have to wear white soled shoes. I am pretty smart you see and moreover my Reebok can take an insult or two in their stride and I take out from my kit bag my standby pair of Nike joggers with white soles. After half an hour of each game I am pretty tired and thirsty. So I move on to the lawn for a drink and a nibble. Loand beholdi am told that I won t be served as I am wearing shorts. I rush back to the changing rooms, change into my Swiss voile shirt and Italian trousers and come back to the lawn to savour my fish fingers and coke on the rocks. After a little respite I head back to the health club. I am told by a tough looking guy that my dress isn t right so I change back onto my shorts and T-shirt. After doing my stint at the health club I feel like taking a dip in the pool.i take off my T-shirt and am about to dive into the pool when I am told that shorts are not allowed and that I have to wear proper swimming trunks. They did not know that I was a keen Boy Scout in my not so distant youthful days where the motto was Be Prepared. So I dip into my kit bag and take out my slimline polka dot swimming costume which I had picked up on my last year s trip to the French Riviera. Amidst raised eyebrows by men and downcast by ladies I dive into the pool and do my twenty odd laps. After a refreshing swim I walk back to the changing rooms, this time a towel wrapped around my waist so as not to cause bother to the eyes of both ladies and gents alike.

7 Assalam-o-Alaikum In order to ensure maximum safety & security of members and their families as well as compliance of bye-laws, the Managing Committee in its meeting held on 15th August 2016 has unanimously decided to get across this message to all honorable members that they must obtain new car parking stickers from Facilitation Centre at Main Club during office hours between 10:00 am to 8:00 pm by providing copy of the first of page their automobile on or before 15th October Thereafter vehicles without having valid car parking stickers will not be permitted to enter in the Club premises. With this regard, security personnel have been given necessary instructions for strict compliance of the procedure. In view of foregoing, members are advised to obtain new car parking sticker at their first available opportunity within deadline to avoid any inconvenience.
