Managing Committee As per the past tradition, the management of Karachi Club Celebrated the birth of our Holy Prophet (PBUH) by organizing a Mehfile-Milad at the main club lawns. Although this event is by the management of Karachi Club but is organized by the Entertainment Committee and its convenor Faheem A. Sakrani ensured that all went well. Club The programe stared with the Tilawat-eKalaam-e-Pak by Mehreen Saleem which was followed by Hamd-e-bari Ta ala by the famous Muna Murad and Sehr-e-Azam. This was followed by soulful Naats and Dars on Seerat-e-Nabwi by Afshan Jawed. The occasion was graced by the wife of the President Karachi Club as well as the wife of Honorary Secretary. The occasion was rounded off by distribution of sweets.
Club Health & Fitness Once again, Ashfaq Ghori, Convenor Health & Fitness and his sub-committee, organized in association with ATCO Laboratories a fabulous program on a very common issue of Heartburn. Dr. Pervaz Ashraf a renowned specialist presented a very comprehensive lecture. This was followed by a question answer session which went on and on and Dr. Ashraf was gracious enough to answer all of them and in great detail. There were approximately around 200 members who attended this programe. In the end convenor Ashfaq Ghory and the President Karachi Club Ashfaq Yousuf Tola thanked Dr. Ashraf for such a wonderful presentation. The event was followed by Dinner. son of Muhammad Ayub Chapal (P-2715) weds daughter of Muhammad Munir Mota on Sunday, 31st January 2016 son of Rehmatullah Abubakar (L-2022) weds daughter of Nasir Abubakar on Friday, 5th son of Jabbar Muhammad Amin Shaikh (JPM) (P-6080) weds daughter of Syed Abdul Ghani on Saturday, 13th daughter of Iqbal Kodvavi (P-1756) weds son of Abdul Rashid on Monday, 22nd
Health & Fitness As per his reputation, Ashfaq Ghory and his entire team came up with another fantastic event. The Blood Donation Camp was organized by Karachi Club Health & Fitness Committee. It was not only a blood donation camp but in association with Kutyana Memon Hospital, they had also arranged a free Thalassemia Screening test, hearing Test and Hepatitas B Vaccinations. The members opened their hearts and ensured that the hospital got more than its required share of blood Well wishers of Karachi Club Club and the Kuyana Memon Hospital team ensured that all members got themselves tested for the above mentioned diseases as well as vaccinated. The camp was scheduled to close at 9.30 however, due to enthusiasm of our members the camp went well beyond its time. Once again both the Kutyana Memon Hospital and the Health and Fitness sub-committee did a commendable job which should be appreciated. The occasion was graced by a number of very senior members of Karachi Club. Condolence Mohammad Amin Ahmed Bawany (L-0448) expired on Tuesday 12th January 2016.
Club Events The need of the hour gravely relies on the spirit of an individual to exhibit tolerance, patience and determination in the face of existential crisis. This spirit is illuminated by education which refines a person s demeanor and forces his/her senses to resort to anything but violence. This is what Malala Yousaf Zai meant when she said I will tell them they were wrong even if they come to kill me again. It is the power of education which confirms people from different social background to sit peacefully and discuss the matter. The role of education historically has always been interesting. It was considered a luxury affordable to the elites of a society. Moreover, the curriculum being taught differed significantly from our current education institutions. This was probably because of the teachers or mentors who drew their lesson, not from text books but from their wisdom, experience and practical endeavors. For instance, the teacher of Alexander the great, Aristotle was a philosopher amongst other things. His disciples or students would follow him around as he would impart his knowledge on various subjects like arts, history and philosophy whilst strolling the streets of the Macedonian city Stigunus. Another example of such nature is of Rumi, the spiritual philosopher, and who also used the same technique of combining practical and theoretical lessons in his teaching. The essence of teaching solely depends on the urge to learn. The famous story of a master and disciple outlines the responsibility of a teacher towards his student and vice versa. The story begins with the disciple s impatience over the method of the master s teaching. The disciple wanted to learn all his lessons quickly while the master was taking a lot of time. Amidst the incessant nagging of the disciple, the master suddenly replied are you thirsty? The disciple although confused said yes. The master poured the water in the cup but left more than half of the cup empty. The disciple obviously drank all of it and asked for more. The master this time filled the whole cup till the water started dribbling outside the edges of the cup. The disciple in surprise exclaimed Stop! The master then said that learning is like drinking water from a cup, you will only drink as long as you re thirsty. The moment the cup overflows; all that water like knowledge is wasted. The above story outlines the philosophical background of education and now it s important to consider how the role of teachers and students in modern educational institutions has evolved. As the number of students increased, there was a dire need for systematic structures which would guarantee the transfer of knowledge of the teacher to every student. The idea of classrooms, blackboards and examinations were part of the systematic structure as education became available to every class in the society. As time passed by, industrial revolution created specialized jobs for qualified individuals hence education institution filled the void by providing students with degrees which would become as a validation of their qualification in a respective field. Between all this, the urge to learn, which the master in the story so fervently exemplified was somehow lost. There was a time when a person with knowledge was called educated and now that same person would be asked to show his degree to validate his knowledge. The modern educational mechanism has separated education and knowledge in the two distinct phenomenons. The fact that this is the case doesn t mean that it should be the case or that it should perpetuate in the same manner for generations to come. To elucidate the argument let us look at some modern day examples, Bill Gates and Mark Zukenberg were both dropouts i.e. they left their universities without completing their degree. In essence they should be called uneducated under the governing principle, despite being successful in their life. Men with knowledge, historically, have always been revered and considered educated; then in spite of precedent, what has changed? To be practical, there was a genuine need for a systematic and formal structure in education institutions. As the fields of studies increased, there was growing scope for
Club Events improvement. Putting aside the conventional fields of education, the emerging subjects included natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, botany etc) social sciences (economics, management, marketing etc). The problem arose when the formal structure of education came into conflict with the urge to learn and innovation of students. This has been the primary reason why students have been disenchanted with education institutions. They have been restricted to theoretical material with no experience of practical life and the problem it brings. School is considered a source of socialization secondary to family. The society relies heavily on the education institutions to provide a solid learning in moral ethics and to make the young generation upright members of the society. However, schools have been plagued with cases of gun violence and harassment, sexual or otherwise. The purpose of education revolves around the fundamental notion of building a value system of individuals as they pass through different stages of life as a child, adolescent and adult. The value system constitutes the essence of society. It teaches children to be tolerant if someone invades their personal space, it teaches them to resort to politeness when attacked with harshness. The million dollar question is, can a knowledgeable person with no formally recognized degree be regarded as an educated person? If the meaning of education relies on the validation of a piece of paper then the person is uneducated but if title of educated is given to anyone with adequate knowledge than even a watchman who reads poetry can be considered educated. Most people create a direct relationship between education and success. It is true to an extent that formalized education makes it easier to be part of the affluent class, if that is how you measure success. But either way the concept of education and knowledge are flames of the same candle hence you can t be one without the other. / D-8455 I am purposeless with a purpose, aimless with an aim I do not give things worth when they are worth it I fear insanity yet sanity seems far to plain. Is this a gift or something that I have been cursed with Staring into the abyss trying to give meaning to the name Shatter into nothingness when confusion is all I can claim. I feel weak but I put on strength as I feign. Questioning myself at every turn, my morality appears stain. Confined to nothing so thoughts of infinity are all I retain. Study the greats yet immature and foolish I remain. Confident in his beliefs yet he does not know how to speak. he tries and tries to explain but he fails to make the masses perceive If you sneak into the depth of his mind the maybe you would see The little boy confined in chains as he loses tears to weep He looks you dead in the eyes as he barely breaths. Then with a roar he screams "I was just trying to be me" That is when you wake up as man captured by reality. Imagine meeting this man as you shake his hand and feel flesh. You can feel him but do you feel how his emotions are on the verge of death Heart impaled by a life which has been termed as nothing more than a test. Every night he closes his eyes and thinks of he can bring this to a rest His only mistake was that he tried to understand those who exist. But little did the foolish boy know. That their existence was nothing more than a myth, Their existence was nothing more than a myth. / L-2360
Club Events Ethics and morality are important for groups and organizations. They are also important for people elected to serve honorary or working in welfare organizations. There are different levels of morality or ethics. These levels are: basic honesty and conformity to law; conflicts of interest; service orientation and procedural fairness; the ethic of democratic responsibility; the ethic of public policy determination; and the ethic of compromise and social integration. Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do.the first step in the evolution of ethics is a sense of solidarity with other human beings. All divine revelations, prophets and saints propagated the message to distinguish right from wrong. They acted as role models for the mankind and practiced strict moral code of behavior and these are our guiding principles for our moral conduct. These applies to all persons, groups and professions. Officials are given the trust by the members of the community organizations, welfare trusts and public organizations to develop and carry out policies that are in the people s best interest. Living up to this trust has a significant impact on overall goodand officials have a moral duty to act in a trustworthy manner. Much of a person s ethical standards are formed through upbringing and the value system established within his or her family environment. Developing a moral compass later in life is not easy. Ensuring ethical fitness in a proactive manner will result in preventive, rather than corrective, ethical management. At a minimum, a code of conduct must be in place, specific to the ethical issues confronted in the service. Research suggests that unless ethical behavior is rewarded and unethical behavior punished, written codes of conduct are unlikely to be effective. The officials are morally bound to tell the truth, to keep promises, to respect the person and the property of others, and to abide by the requirements of the law. Conflict of interest:this relates to officials, because it deals with the conflict between advancing the public interest, which a public official is charged to do, and advancing one s self-interest. The duty here is to ensure that the public interest comes first, and that one does not advance his own personal interest at the expense of the public. Service orientation and procedural fairness: The moral obligation of public servants is to follow established procedures, and not to use their power to circumvent those procedures for their own convenience or benefit. Power must be used fairly and for the benefit of the public. Whatever the reasons or excuses for the failures by community officials or leaders, it is hoped that the resources are utilized in the best public interest judiciously and efficiently. It must be emphasized the fine difference between efficient and effective.
