AMEL is first and foremost the story of one man. The Cap'taine! Who hasn t heard of Henri AMEL in the nautical world? Or rather Henri Tonet, his real name. Now recognised as an exceptional naval architect, he started out as a Parisian auto coach maker with a passion for naval construction. A strong-willed, ambitious man, ready to go all-out to fulfil his dreams, and who despite being partially blind for most of his life, continued to invent, develop and design his boats with the same enthusiasm. An inspired businessman? In all cases, Henri AMEL is above all a man of sound judgement, whose simple, fundamental ideas are now considered as a prerequisite by many sailors. As an architect, he believed that the notions of quality, safety and comfort on board should address one objective: being able to navigate across all the world s seas. Owning «an AMEL» yacht means allowing yourself to fulfil an unattainable childhood dream; sailing the oceans alone (with no crew). AMEL is also a story of transmission; of handing down values, expertise and experiences from all over the world. 4 STRATEGIC ANCHOR POINT IN LA ROCHELLE: THE CHOICE OF AN IDEAL LOCATION AMEL chose a location favoured by boat builders, and established its premises in La Rochelle, at the industrial estate in Périgny, which started developing in the 1970s. Today La Rochelle is still the centre of excellence for pleasure boat sailing. Its famous Port des Minimes is the largest yacht harbour on the French Atlantic coast, accommodating around 5,000 boats. With the ocean as their testing area, a number of nautical companies (equipment suppliers, service providers, shipyards ) have also established their base on this exceptional site. INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE TO FACILITATE TRAVEL ACROSS THE SEAS OF THE WORLD AMEL branches Besides its base in Hyères, established 50 years ago, AMEL has been present in the French Antilles for more than 40 years. A new partnership has recently been established with Northrop and Johnson Asia, leading to the first ever presentation of an AMEL 64 at the Singapore Yacht Show. The latest representative to integrate the network is Super Yachts Poland in Warsaw. Since its beginnings, a range of new modern, elegant yachts of 54, 55 and 64 feet have joined the range based on the same concept of navigating without a crew. Over the years, yachts from the Amel shipyards have gained from past experience and customer feedback, always striving to improve comfort and safety. Additionally, to respond to future owners expectations, the two ranges of yachts offer customizable fittings and finishings. Their exceptional quality is now recognised throughout the world. 9 50 YEARS OF HISTORY MEET PRESENT DAY An entire community of navigators has identified with the values held by the Shipyard. On the deck since their childhood, on expeditions with their parents or trips with friends, all the boat owners have been enchanted by the quality of AMEL yachts, and more so by Henri AMEL s unique spirit and vision. Cap'taine Henri AMEL passed away on April 12th Since this date, all the yachts manufactured by the Shipyard bear his name Today, the story continues thanks to the community of Amel-lovers who perpetuate this art of yachting and keep the AMEL spirit alive beyond the oceans, a the rhythm of their travels. AMEL-LOVERS OR SHARED EMOTION: "ENSEMBLE" * Today AMEL sets out in a new direction, aiming to conserve the proximity it holds with this community. The idea? Sharing this very special emotion that has united boat owners and professionals from the Shipyard for many years. To thank and honour its loyal boat owners, this year AMEL has decided to build a network and specific attentions for its community. AMEL is strengthening its digital presence, especially on the social networks, in order to meet the expectations of their hyper-connected, active and enterprising international customer base. AMEL also wishes to promote the AMEL Club. This is an original project, reserved exclusively for AMEL boat owners: a secure forum for sharing with other boat owners, provision of documentation, current events within the community, organisation of regattas, special evenings and other events are on the programme This festive project will be launched towards the end of the year. AMEL communicates its core values: ensemble * is the new slogan chosen by the brand to unite its fans. The brand s visual identity is being developed and a new publicity campaign is underway : the Shipyard is under a new impetus. Without losing anything of its anchorage and its roots, AMEL is entering into a new era. 10 SHIPYARD KEY DATES 1950s and 60s: Henri AMEL designs and manufactures his boats in cooperation with outside shipyards (Marseille, Spain, La Rochelle ). From 1957, he uses the structure stratification technique for the interior of the hull and on the bridge to create one single, stronger piece He creates the AMEL Mediterranean base in Hyères (boat presentation and customer service base). He buys the Ateliers Rochelais de Polyester Industriel et Naval in La Rochelle, which are destroyed by a fire in Inauguration of the new AMEL Shipyards in Périgny (La Rochelle). Creation of a charter base in Guadeloupe that becomes the AMEL customer service base in First masts equipped with AMEL furlers.. Development of the AMEL retractable electric bow thruster. Creation of the AMEL transmission system and launch of Super Maramu ; manufacture of 480 units over 18 years. Launch of the AMEL 54 model. Extension of the Périgny site with the creation of a 4,000 sq m building for the manufacture of the future AMEL 64 model, launched in Launch of the AMEL 55 model.
