ML3 ا!,HL. و AL% ; K $ل : *= 9-FG $ه,-. و *= أ= *= ا% AF(XF *)JV@ ا> UL ا 4;T7 1RSة ABL9+ 4= AILP*Q= و اAI@NFO ML. أAIP*H9J رواه ا 297 *ري و ALQ= Abu Hurairah Abd Ar-Rahman bin Sakhr,-. ر 0 / ا! reported : I heard the Messenger of Allah AL% و,HL. ا! ML3 say : "Avoid that which I forbid you to do and do that which I command you to do to the best of your capacity. Verily the people before you were destroyed only because of their excessive questioning and their disagreement with their Prophets. Al-Bukhari & Muslim. This Hadith is fundamental to Islam. It has two parts. *= 9-FG $ه,-. things. : the forbidden ا]- HI *ت 1. MIJ / /IJ : forbidding, is usually done by a higher authority to a lower one. In this hadith, the Messenger of Allah AL% و,HL. ا! ML3 is forbidding 9-FG $ه immediately. : ف اFG -[ : avoid completely. There are 2 types of =- HI *ت. a) اA;1^F7 /IJ : absolutely forbidden : 16 ام, eg. adultery, back biting, drinking alcohol. If you do these acts, you are a sinner, and you will be punished. If you refrain from them, you will be rewarded.

2 b) ا] 1Bوه /IJ : disliked, eg. eating garlic before going to the masjid, putting your hands on your waist while praying. If you do these acts, there is no punishment, if you don't, you will get a reward. alcohol, can be doing the action a little or a lot, eg. drinking a bit of ا]- HI *ت *. 16 ام or a lot, both are * Remember these rules are from Allah, and you are His slave. * You must refrain these actions for the sake of Allah.,=- HI *ت because `X7 or the kindness of Allah can be seen in these ا! * whatever is forbidden, 16 ام or,= 1Bوه is because that particular thing is harmful for you. are things which are not essential in our lives, so we can do without ا]- HI *ت * them. * They are a test from Allah, because human beings are attracted to the forbidden things. * There is a variety of forbidden things, so there is a challenge for everyone. و *= أ= *= ا% AF(XF *= ا% AF(XF 2. You must apply the obligations according to your ability. Your goal is to save yourself from the fire. Therefore, you must purify yourself of a sin first, then apply the obligations as much as you can. The Messenger of Allah AL% و,HL. ا! ML3 gave two kinds of commands. a) إ; b *ب.أ= 1 This kind of command has a reward if obeyed, and a sin if not carried out. b).ا] 9^FQ *ت These are the commands which are recommended or voluntary. There is a reward for obeying them, but no punishment if not carried out. Everyone has a different level of ability, which is why the Messenger of Allah AL% و,HL. ا! ML3 told us to obey the commands he gave us according to our ability.

3 You are the judge of your ability; don't be too hard or too lenient on yourself. An example of this is N3 ة or prayer. Everyone must pray five times a day, there is no choice in that. But if a person is sick or injured, he can pray sitting or lying down. If someone is unable to do that, he can pray with the action of his finger, or even eyes, according to his circumstances. Another example is fasting in the month of Ramadan, this is obligatory. But if someone is sick or traveling, he can make up the missed fasts later in the year. Allah says in Surah Al-Imran : ; * أ ; Ii * ا 4; Tj7 آ= - $ا ا< Kj $ا ا! j <K *<, jl 6 وk < ( $<j4 إjk و أA FJ L ( $ن Qi= ٣:١٠٢ O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him]. When the Companions of the Messenger of Allah AL% و,HL. ا! ML3 heard this verse, they asked him: و *= l6 < K *<, What is the right of fearing Allah? He replied : ءان 1ST; MQ-; N@ و ; X *ع N@ Ms(; That He should be remembered, not forgotten, and He should be obeyed, not disobeyed. He was asked : و =4 ; K $ى ML. > Tا And how does one fear Him? So Allah sent down this verse from Surat At-Taghabun : w وU v 7, Q x J jy z و = 4 ; $ق A B Q xj j 1 H O ا و أK xj $ا و ا% ( ) $ا و أ ~ H ) $ا A F ( X F ا% = * ا! *< Kj $ا ا] L x ^ $ن ٦٤:١٦ So fear Allah as much as you are able and listen and obey and spend [in the way of Allah ]; it is better for your selves. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful. اKIH97 /

4 # ٤٥٨ Allah our Creator knows our limits.that is why Allah says in Surat Al- Baqarah : * I ( و % إjk * Q x J ا! j `ƒl B ; k ٢:٢٨٦ Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. For the obligatory actions, Allah out of His infinite kindness, has given us options and substitutes. Giving up forbidden actions and adopting obligatory actions go hand in hand. The 16 ام must be given up immediately, and adopting the وا 9G *ت are by nature gradual, because you need to make a routine in your life which includes them. ءاJ (* ا> UL ا 4;T7 UL9+ =4 The previous nations that this Hadith refers to are the Jews and the Christians. They deserved to be destroyed because of two things. a) AILP*Q= 1RSة : excessive questioning. There are three types of questions. i) اN%kم 1 اP أB6 *م ML. اb7 *> % ال : the question of a person who is ignorant regarding the rules of Deen. This is recommended and.% ال ا 7 $اG [ obligatory, The Messenger of Allah AL% و,HL. ا! ML3 said : ALQ= S ML. واG [ اAL(7 ]L~ اF7 *%ˆ 8P ا 1F297 ي # ٣٣٩ Acquiring knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim. Allah says in Surah Al-Anbiya : و = * أ ر % U L 9 + L - * إjk رG / 6$iJ *k إA I H 7 7 w *% أ > ا 1 SƒT7 إ ن < ) L ( $ن k A F- S ٢١:٧

5 And We sent not before you, [O Muhammad], except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people of the message if you do not know. ii) ا 4;87 4. اŠKxF7 اQ7 ال : questions regarding a specialized field in Deen, eg. Inheritance and divorce. This is 1 ض, obligatory for a group of people, not all Muslims. iii) Š@*> % ال : useless questions, eg. inquiring the age of Adam اNQ7 م,HL., or trying to find out which tree he ate from which resulted in his exit from Paradise. These kind of details serve as a distraction for us. Allah says in Surah Al-Maaidah : * ; أ ; Ii * ا 4; Tj7 آ= - $ا 7 w $ا Q > k 4. أz H *ء إ ن 8 9 > A S Q > A B 7 و إ ن Q > 7 w $ا * I -. ; - jœ ل 6 ا 1 K 7 آن 8 9 > A B 7 AH L 6 x $ر و ا! j * I -. ا! j * x. ٥:١٠١ O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past; and Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing. This is why the Companions of the Messenger of Allah AL% و,HL. ا! ML3 never asked excessive questions. Knowledge will come to you gradually, according to your ability. * Some questions are asked by people to check the knowledge of the one scholar being questioned. These kind of questions were not answered by Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen. * Some questions are asked for entertainment; these are disliked. * Sometimes people ask different scholars the same question because they are searching for a loophole for some command of Allah they don't want to obey; this is obviously disliked too. * Some information is hidden by Allah, such as His shin. Questions about these are disliked. * Questions are used to create Š-F@, when different scholars are asked the same questions and then their answers are compared.

6 This hadith tells us the previous nations which were destroyed by Allah had with their prophets. Nowadays this scenario takes place with the اNFOف scholars. This creates confusion amongst the Muslims.
