4 In the year 2000, Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) placed a cornerstone in the country s mission to provide its citizens with an education of world caliber. Alongside its sister institution, Kuwait University, GUST s quest for its own progress began; one of premier education. An important international partnership with the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL), in the United States of America, helped take GUST s curriculum to international standards. UMSL is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, offering GUST the finest of its experiences and technological achievements. GUST set goals, focused its efforts, and flourished. Each year, more students enrolled, world-class professors joined, the most technologically advanced campus was built, curricula enhancements ensued, majors were added, student activities swirled, a Master of Business Administration Program was initiated, attainment of renowned academic accreditations, and our reputation as the premier private university in Kuwait was solidified. Making a mark locally is just the beginning, as extending globally continues to be one of GUST s main objectives. GUST initiated key partnerships for student programs, faculty exchange programs, and research collaborations with prominent institutions. GUST aspires to keep widening the scope of its international collaborations to keep the university connected to the most advanced scientific and educational circles of the world. internationally recognized accreditations. GUST s English Foundation Program attained its accreditation in 2013 by the Commission on Intensive English Program Accreditation (CEA). In 2014, GUST s College of Business Administration became one of the top five percent of the world s business programs that year to earn the AACSB- International Accreditation. GUST was the only private university in Kuwait to receive this esteemed recognition at that time. The university also joined the elite institutions of the world as the only private institution in Kuwait recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for its computer science program. And most recently, the GUST Mass Communication and Media Department received unconditional accreditation by the American Communications Association (ACA). Accreditation is an on-going process that ensures the continuous development and the superior quality of GUST s programs. The university prides itself on offering the local and regional marketplace with highly trained graduates who enjoy exceptional personal and technical aptitudes. GUST firmly believes that the truest way to earn trust in higher education is by providing an educational and academic environment capable of bestowing knowledge and confidence, helping any individual who wants to improve themselves, and supporting students to unleash their talents. 5 CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MESSAGE Dear Students, As Gulf University for Science and Technology s (GUST) Chairman of the Board of Trustees, I take great pride in my role at the university, and I take it personally that we all do our very best to ensure that we continue to offer the highest standards in education and an environment that cultivates innovation, dynamism, and excellence. On behalf of everyone on the Board of Trustees, I can proudly say that what we have accomplished in 15 short years is an amazing feat. We have secured our 5th major international accreditation for our Mass Communication and Media Department, and our ranking has leaped from 73rd to 49th out of approximately 1000 in the Arab world, as announced by one of the most prestigious ranking institutions in the world, Quacquarelli Symonds. However, our biggest achievement and source of pride is you. You make GUST what it is an exciting, welcoming, and fun learning environment. It is precisely the spirit that you bring to campus every day that makes us stand out as a university. This yearbook serves as an aide-memoire for you to take with you. 6 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Graduates, I am entering my fifth year as President of Gulf University for Science & Technology (GUST) and I have not lost the sense of excitement and enthusiasm I had the day I joined GUST. My pride in being associated with a university which outdoes itself year after year is an incredible feeling of collective accomplishment. This image that we have built continues with you, our ambassadors, as you start your careers. To illustrate this emphasis on quality education, one needs only look at the international accolades GUST has earned in a few short years. First GUST received the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA) accreditation from our English Foundation Program, which was followed by the ABET accreditation for our Computer Science degree. The ABET accreditation is one of only a handful outside the United States, and we were the first Computer Science program in Kuwait to achieve this international seal of quality. Our College of Business Administration earned the AACSB-International for all of its undergraduate programs (including our MBA program), from the oldest and largest professional business accrediting agency in the world. This award places GUST s business program among the top five percent business programs globally. All of these acknowledgments of quality are in addition to that we already possess. among almost 1000 universities in the Arab world. This is an improvement of more than 20 spots compared to our ranking last year; a great accomplishment as GUST continues to be the only private university from Kuwait to make the list. I am excited to see that the dedication and distinguished caliber of our faculty, talented students and hardworking staff and our supporting administration is being recognized, more specifically within our Mass Communication and Media Department, which has secured accreditation from the American Communications Association (ACA). With such a solid foundation, and with your drive and flair for creativity, I can restassured that your path to success is positive. 12 COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION The College of Business Administration (CBA) is comprised of three departments including Economics & Finance, Accounting & Management Information Systems (MIS), and Business Administration. Its programs run within a very disciplined, but friendly, environment essential for nurturing educational values and promoting independent thinking. Learning is reinforced by close interactions between faculty and students. the college offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, which is recognized as one of the most successful programs in Kuwait and the region. CBA strives to provide our students with top quality education through researchinformed teaching, internship opportunities, case study competitions, consultancy workshops, and student exchange programs. These advanced educational initiatives provide our students the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to be successful in their careers. The learning experience provided is characterized by strong interdisciplinary foundation and broad-knowledge base in core business competencies. 17 COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is comprised of five departments including Computer Science, English, Humanities & Social Sciences, Mass Communication and Multimedia, and Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The college prepares GUST students to become knowledgeable leaders in different industries, academia, and society by providing a strong interdisciplinary foundation in liberal arts and sciences. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, intercultural awareness, and scientific inquiry. Representing diverse backgrounds and expertise in an American-style higher education setting, CAS faculty members are committed to excellence utilizing cuttingedge academic resources and facilities. Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication - Public Relations/Advertising - Radio and TV Broadcasting - Visual Communication Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Each program has essential qualities that graduates individuals who are able to meet the demands of the country s workforce. In addition to providing a solid academic framework, these programs provide students with in-depth knowledge on the integration of information technology into their specific fields. They are designed to prepare students to achieve professional and personal success through the acquisition of lifelong skills, enabling them to achieve optimal personal growth and contribute to the development of their community and world at large. The college s curricula are designed to foster intercultural competence and encourage creative thinking.
