Thereafter, studied at Anglo-Sanskrit P.G.College, Khanna (Punjab). Took active part in extracurricular activities & sports throughout, winning several prizes.retired as Under-Secretary from the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Joined the Parishad in the year 1983 as Founder Secretary, Janakpuri Branch, New Delhi. Worked in various capacities at Delhi State levels including three terms as General Secretary. During and again was assigned the responsibility of National Secretary (Sanskar Projects) and National Addl. Secretary General respectively. During served the organisation as its National Secretary General as full-timer for the Parishad. VARINDER SABHARWAL NATIONAL SECRETARY GENERAL Shri Varinder Sabharwal was born on 2 nd Oct After completing his graduation he came out with flying colours in L.L.B. An advocate by profession since 1962 he presently resides at Jalandhar. His association with Bharat Vikas Parishad dates back from 1979 when he was President of Jalandhar branch till He was President of Punjab Prant from 1982 to 1987 when he was elevated to be the All India Secretary from He had been Chairman National Diciplinary Committee & National Election Committee from and Chairman National Trust Committee from 2003 to Prior to his election to the post of National Finance Secretary, which he held from he was The National Addl. HARISH JINDAL NATIONAL FINANCE SECRETARY Born on 10 th May, 1940 at Bareilly and after schooling in U.P. graduated with Hons. in Mechanical Engineering, from I.I.T. Kharagpur and topped the class. Selected for two years training in U.K. under commonwealth scholarship. Now running his own small scale industry manufacturing Tungoten Carbide Dies since Considered an expert in his subject, he visited U.S.A twice and presented papers. Joined B.V.P. in He worked in Rotary Club at various levels. In Parishad also he worked as Branch President, Prant General Secretary, Zonal Organizing Secretary, All India Secretary and National Additional Secretary General. Now he has been elected as National Finance Secretary His wife Smt. Padma Jindal is equally devoted to social work, had been President of Inner Wheel Club, and Prantiya Mahila Sanyojika of Western U.P. thrice. 10 NATIONAL PRAUDH SANSKAR SHIVIR A REPORT 15th National Praudh Sanskar Shivir of Bharat Vikas Parishad was organised at Katra (J&K) from 29th Feb., 08 to 2nd March, Praudhs from different prants of the country attended the Shivir. The Shivir was inaugurated 29th Feb, 08 by lighting of lamp by the chief guest Shri Jugal Kishore Sharma Hon'ble Minister of J&K Govt. assisted by Shri R.P.Sharma National Working President, Shri I.D.Ojha, National Secretary General, Shri S.Ramanna, National Organizing Secretary and Shri R.P.Gupta Additional Secretary General. Vande Mataram was sung by Smt. Sneh Gupta of Trikuta Nagar (Jammu) branch. In the Inaugural session Prof. Suresh Gupta, State President welcomed the guests. Shri I.D.Ojha gave details about Bharat Vikas Parishad activities. The main speaker was Shri S.Ramanna who spoke on "Old age is a boon". Hon'ble Minister Shri Jugal Kishore Sharma stressed upon the Senior Citizens to work for the upliftment of the country. Souvenir "Aashirwad" was released on this occasion. Presidential remarks were given by Shri R.P.Sharma while the session was conducted by Prof. Satish Anand, National Secretary. 2nd Session was chaired by Shri I.D.Ojha, while Shri A.R.P.Sihna National Chairman spoke on "The necessity of holding Sanskar Shivirs." The delegates were introduced by their group leaders. On1st March, 08 3rd Session was chaired by Shri R.P.Gupta, National Additional Secretary General. A lecture on Yoga was delivered by Shri S.K.Jain General Secretay Yoga Sansthan followed by practial demonstration by Shri B.R.Gupta and Smt. Sushma Gupta. A lecture on health by Dr. Subash Gupta, Ex-Principal Govt. Medical College, Jammu were the highlights of the session. Quiz competition on BVP was also held. 4th Session started with a lecture by Shri Suresh Chandra of Ghaziabad and compered by Shri S.N.Sharma National Convener. Delegates were divided into 3 groups and group discussions were held on the following topics : A : Role of Bharat Vikas Parishad in eradicating social evils. B : Steps to expand Bharat Vikas Parishad at branch level and C : Role of elders in giving Sanskars in a family. Cultural programme was presented by the school children of Katra branch in the 5th session. Shri S.Ramanna chaired the session. Concluding session was chaired by Shri Varinder Sabharwal, National Finance Secretary on 2nd March and conducted by Dr. Santosh Gupta, Zonal Convener. In this session Dr. Harsh of Bikaner (Raj.) spoke on "How to keep fit". Swami Hirdayanand Ji the chief guest spoke on spiritual tips for Praudhs. Mementos were given to the local organizers. Dr. Bishwanath Verma of Gaya (Bihar) was honoured for attending 12/14 Shivirs so far organized by BVP at National level. Mementos were also given to the 1st and 2nd position holders of Quiz competition. For the first time participation certificates were given to all the delegates. The Shivir ended with the singing of National Anthem. On 3rd Mach, 08 about 100 delegates were taken to Patnitop a beautiful Hill Resort having immense scenening beauty. 18 April 2008 NITI ps=k&cs'kk[k] vçsy NEW BRANCHES Hatgobindapur, West Bengal : A new rural branch of the Parishad was opened on Republic Day, 26th January, 08 at Hatgobindapur village in the district of Burdwan, West Bengal. Sri Ranjan Dey, a member of Kolkata North East branch took all the initiatives to open this branch. Hundreds of villagers were present in the open ground of sree Tapeswari Ashram situated in the middle of the village. Swami Tejasanandaji Maharaj of the Ashram was present on the occasion. Swamiji was designated as branch president, Sri Tarun Chakraborty as Secretary and Brahmchari Tanmoyananda as Treasurer. Hatgobindapur village is located about 22 km from Burdwan town close to Palla Road railway station. Karnataka South : 1. Kolar: Branch was opened on 27th January, 08 Dr. Uday Kumar, MD, Professor, Department of Pathology, Shri Devaraj Urs College, Kolar presided over the function. Shri Su.Ramanna, National Organising Secretary, inaugurated the branch. Sri K.G.Subbarama Setty, Zonal Chairman was the chief guest. Shri A.S. Nataraj, Secretary was also present on the occasion. The membership of the new Kolar branch is Vidyaranya, Vijayanagar, Mysore : was opened on 29th January, new members were enrolled.su.ramanna, National Organising Secretary inaugurated the branch. While 39 cataract operations were succesfully conducted at 'Susrut' Eye Hospital, 325 were provided with kryptok Bi-focal lenses free of cost. The project cost the branch Rs. 67, 000/- approximately. Ilsoba : Ilsoba, a village branch organised free Eye testing spectacles distribution camp on in Ilsoba village. A total of 167 villagers were examined. Spects were distributed to 116 patients and free medicins were provided to 39 needy patients. 12 patients were detected as having cataract. Vivek Vihar, Delhi East : Branch organised blood donation camp on 6th Feb.,08. A good number of donors donated their blood. The blood camp was organised in association with Mahila Pragatisheel Association. The news were covered on T.V. by CCN Channel. Orissa : Orissa Prant jointly with others conducted some Seva activities, which have an enduring impact. Blood grouping is one of these being conducted for the last 8 years covering persons. A large blood grouping camp was held on jointly with the Govt. run Ramadevi Women's college and Bhubaneswar North branch in the college campus. 264 students gave blood samples to be covered under the sheme that provide Photo Identity card with Blood Group and other details of the holder. Dr. Jagi Prasad Rath supervised blood grouping. Khandagiri : Branch conducted its first Seva activity of the year by holding a health camp on with the support of the prant. It was held in the Basti area of village Patrapada, which is mostly inhabited by backward class families. The branch member Dr. Krushna Chandra Rath treated 111 patients free. Tezpur, Assam : A free eye examination camp was organised by the branch on 27th Jan.,08 at it's permanent Sewa Prakalp site located at Goroimari. 128 eye patients with various ailments were examined and treated by the eye specialists sponsored by the Jt. Director, Health Services, Govt. of Assam. The team was led by Dr. Anjali Goswami, Chairperson of District Blindness Eradication project. Free medicines were also provided to the patients. Altogether 26 patients were selected for cataract operation, who will be operated free at Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Tezpur. Earlier the camp was inaugurated by Sri Mukul Sharma, President, Assam East Prant, who appreciated and lauded the branch in their efforts to help the needy people of the rural area by organizing such a camp in the interior village of Sonitpur.
