All are invited to participate in festivities planned on July 10, More details will be communicated via web site and s. We had several religious and community events in month of May and June. Yogeshbhai Shastri s pravachan, Mata Jagran, Siddheshvari Deviji s discourses on Gyanyog and Bhaktiyog were attended by large number of community members. More than 400 people came for lab work and consultation with doctors at HealthFair on June 12. CPR training and Blood Donation camp were also arranged on the same day. It was an excellent example of Triangle Hindu Temple volunteers working together for a community event. Mayors of Cary and Morrisville, and some council members also visited the camp, and were appreciative of the efforts by Hindu temples. On May 27, HSNC and CHIPIN had hosted a dinner for about 30 Indian IAS officers who were visiting Duke university. Community members were able to present ideas on clean and Healthy India movement. We have two Board of Directors positions to fill in at HSNC immediately. One position will be for remaining of 2010 and another till end of We are planning the election process and will seek the nominations very soon. HSNC has hired a full time facility manager, Trilok Pillai, who will be primary contact for rental and maintenance. Update from First Summer Camp June 21 st was the first day of HSNC Summer Camp Session 1; it began with 42 campers all singing slokas under the instruction of Shanti Aunty while the volunteers prepared to receive the campers. Yoga followed the slokas, and Gauri Aunty led the campers through a series of poses that taught them how to gain control over their bodies and minds. Tired from the yoga the campers sat down for some nutritious breakfast to ready them for the rest of the busy day. Sports and games along with story time were some of their recreational activities; guest speakers gave short lectures on history and culture. Due to the finale program being on Friday, the campers spent a lot of their time learning choreography and music for the program. To add a splash of fun to each long day, special activities were planned throughout the week, such as a clown, water day and dance parties. A special thanks goes out to the wonderful restaurants who supplied the camp with food and the campers with energy: Royal Dhaba, Inchin s Bamboo Garden, Tower India and Baskin Robbins. The teen volunteers did a great job of bonding with the campers and taking care of them, but they could not have done it without the help of certain dedicated adults. Thanks to Sharma Aunty for participating the hectic preparation and running of the camp, Shanti Aunty, Arundhuti Aunty and Ram Uncle for not only helping with checking the campers HSNC Newsletter, Volume 35, Issue 4, July, 2010 in but also monitoring them, and Bhuvanesh uncle. Pinky Aunty, Vinita Aunty, and Aman Uncle all did a great job of guiding the counselors and directors and ensuring the proper functioning of the camp. Thanks also goes to Lovleen Aunty, Gauri Aunty and Laxmi Aunty for teaching during the camp session. Session 1 was a success and thanks to all who made it possible. - From young camp volunteers Why do we.. Why do we light a lamp? Light symbolizes knowledge. Lord is the Knowledge Principle (Chaitanya), who is source, the enlivener and the illuminator of all knowledge. Why do we do Namaste? In Sanskrit it means, I bow to you. We bow to Divinity in the person we meet. Why do we say Shaanti thrice? It is believed that Trivaram Satyam - that which is said thrice comes true. Why we do not touch paper, books, and people with feet? Knowledge is sacred and divine, so it must be respected all times. People are also believed to have Divinity within. Why do we fast? Fasting helps us cultivate control over our senses, sublimate our desires and guide our minds to be poised and at peace.
