We are scheduled to leave from Tabernacle Lutheran Church at 9:30 AM on July 16, 2011 and we go directly to Sight and Sound Theatre in Lancaster, PA. Immediately following the Play we will go to Eden Resort Inn for a Smorgasbord Buffet Dinner. Some of the menu is listed below, however there is much more food in store.! Eden Resort Inn - Voted Best Buffet Restaurant by Sight & Sound customers! Lunch Buffet & Dinner Buffet with Prime Rib 2 soups, extensive salad bar including various salads including shrimp, 2 entrees 1 fish or chicken and 1 prime rib station, pasta or rice or potatoes, one or more vegetables, bread and rolls, dessert station with cakes, pies, puddings, petit fours. He frequently condemns sin but never upsets anyone. He works from 8 a.m. until midnight and is also a janitor. He makes $60 a week, wears good clothes, buys good books, drives a good car, and gives about $80 a week to the poor. He is 28 years of age, but he's been preaching for 30 years. He is wonderfully gentle and handsome. He gives himself completely but never gets too close to anyone to avoid criticism. He speaks boldly on social issues, but must never become politically involved. He has a burning desire to work with teenagers, but he spends all his time with senior citizens. He makes 15 daily calls to parish families, visits shut-ins and the hospitalized, spends all his time evangelizing the unchurched, and is always in his office when needed. 3

From the Pastor Christian friends, As we prepare to enjoy the summer vacation season, I would like you to take a moment to reflect on the transformation that has occurred at Tabernacle during the

8 From the Pastor Christian friends, As we prepare to enjoy the summer vacation season, I would like you to take a moment to reflect on the transformation that has occurred at Tabernacle during the year. Although at times it seems as if our overall commitment to being engaged in the synod s Transformational Ministry process has waned a bit lately, there can be no denying that the Holy Spirit is at work in this place and that significant transformation is starting to happen. For example, in the past six months, we have witnessed the following things happen here at Tabernacle : The total makeover / re-organization of our front office Rotation of volunteers to staff the front office during the week The implementation of a new church financial management system The creation of a new, all inclusive worship bulletin Re-start of the Adult Bible School class on Sunday mornings Implementation of a church fellowship hour after our morning services The creation of a monthly newsletter Planting of flowers to beautify the church entrance The development of a New Member s handbook I am excited about what I see happening at our church and I am looking forward to seeing even more changes that will increase our capacity to share the good news to a world that is desperately in need of some. Undoubtedly there are many challenges that lie ahead of us that must be successfully addressed in a timely manner. Attendance and revenue during the summer months is traditionally low, and so there will be some cash flow issues. In addition, Vicar Fyling will be ending her internship with us In August and that will leave a tremendous void in our front office, in terms of creation the monthly newsletter and the weekly worship bulletins. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we need volunteers who will commit their time and energy into helping to shape a new vision for this congregation. I believe that God has great things in store for our congregation and I know that you and I will have to work together in order to make it happen! I m ready and I m looking for some others to join me! To this end, I am currently seeking persons to add to our Transformational Ministry team and / or participate in the Building Capacity for Sustainable Ministries training that is being offered on August 5-6, 2011 at the Lutheran Theological Seminary. If you are interested in helping to shape the vision for Tabernacle s current and future ministry, let s talk! Blessings, Pastor 8

There are many neighborhood people from my youth associated with Tabernacle.

I have participated in many musical concerts given at Tabernacle going back to when Thomas Kochenderfor was Pastor and also when Rosa Keys continued after him. I was even married at Tabernacle.

The choir members there whom I have known brought back memories of hard work, fun times and beautiful music accomplished beyond the expectations of many.

It goes without saying that the food was wonderful and the fellowship very comforting. I truly thank everyone for that.

9 Letter to the Congregation Dear Pastor Rodgers, Vicar Fryling, Deacons, Elders and Members of the Congregation of Tabernacle: This past Sunday at the invitation of a dear friend I attended Friends and Family Sunday at Tabernacle. I just wanted to express my sincere thanks to everyone for the warmth and fellowship I experienced that day. Coming to Tabernacle was bittersweet for me. There are many neighborhood people from my youth associated with Tabernacle. My late sister Wanda Lofton was Church Musical Director and organist at Tabernacle for over 25 years, until her untimely death from Hodgkin's Disease at age 50. I have participated in many musical concerts given at Tabernacle going back to when Thomas Kochenderfor was Pastor and also when Rosa Keys continued after him. I was even married at Tabernacle. We had been a part of the Tabernacle community for many years. Looking over at the Baroque organ and picturing my sister sitting there was difficult. The choir members there whom I have known brought back memories of hard work, fun times and beautiful music accomplished beyond the expectations of many. It was tough and my emotions were running quite high. That said, it was also wonderful to see old friends and faces, parents of kids with whom I grew up and meet new people. It goes without saying that the food was wonderful and the fellowship very comforting. I truly thank everyone for that. The remnants of my family continue to struggle in the aftermath of the loss of our father, sister and most recently, our mother. The chairs have shifted at the family table and sometimes one does not know where to sit. Our family would appreciate any prayers from Tabernacle to help us as we wade through the uncharted waters of grief and subsequent renewal. Again, permit me to extend my heartfelt thanks to ALL for making me feel so welcome last Sunday. Perhaps I may come again soon but until then, May the love of God bless you and sustain you all.
