1 Lesson Text: Genesis 6:1-10 King James Version (KJV) Sunday, October 28, 2018 I. MAN S UNGODLINESS (Genesis 6:1-5) 1. And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2. That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. II. GOD S RESPONSE TO MAN S UNGODLINESS

2 (Genesis 6:6-10) 6. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 9. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10. And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. New International Version (NIV) I. MAN S UNGODLINESS (Genesis 6:1-5) 1. When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2. the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3. Then the Lord said, My Spirit will not contend

3 with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years. 4. The Nephilim were on the earth in those days and also afterward when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. 5. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. II. GOD S RESPONSE TO MAN S UNGODLINESS (Genesis 6:6-10) 6. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7. So the Lord said, I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground for I regret that I have made them. 8. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

4 10. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. PRACTICAL POINTS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. It is true, the more sinners there are, the more sin there is; and the multitude of offenders emboldens men (Genesis 6:1-2; Proverbs 29:16; Acts 6:1). 2. Don t be confused, God is patient, but He won t allow human wickedness to go on forever (Genesis 6:3; Jonah 3:5, 10). 3. No good can come from believers uniting with sinners (Genesis 6:4; II Corinthians 6:14). 4. We will have evil thoughts until our hearts are changed because our thoughts originate from our hearts (Genesis 6:5; Proverbs 4:23). 5. When we grieve the heart of God with our sins, eventually He will act in judgment because of our sins (Genesis 6:6-7). 6. Those who live godly and are committed to God are subject to receive His favor (Genesis 6:8-9). 7. Having children is a sign of divine favor (Genesis 6:10;
