1 The Messenger From the Pastor April 2015 Dear Church Family, The month of March is over and God has blessed us in many ways as we look back at the first quarter of this year. One area that God has blessed us as a church is in the area of finances. First, we made and surpassed our budget amount for the month of March. Second, we now have over $93, in our building fund. We are getting closer to meeting our second Building Fund goal of restoring all the money we spent on the renovations to the Fellowship Hall in I hope that you continue to give your tithes and offerings so that the church can continue to minister in Pulaski County and around the world. Another area where God has blessed us is in the Pulaski County Christian Learning Center (PCCLC) ministry. Many of you know the PCCLC just celebrated its fourth annual fundraiser banquet. The banquet was sold out and the students put on a great program as they showed everyone what God is doing in their lives through the PCCLC class. Further, we have just added a middle school class during March. We have fifteen energetic sixth graders who come every morning to study God s Word and learn how to apply it to their lives. Thank you to all who support the PCCLC ministry and reaching out to our high school and middle school students in Pulaski County. Missions is another area where God has blessed us in the past month. As many of you know, I have been going on mission trips to train pastors over the past two years in Kenya. You also may remember we were praying for mission work done by those Kenyan pastors in Nairobi at the end of last year. They planned this groundbreaking work as we finished our training with them last year. Dennis Phillips, our Director of Missions, received a report recently about more mission work this group of pastors just finished. These pastors, along with thirty-one Christian students from Tanzania, shared the gospel with 4,438 people between March 14 and March 22. Of these who heard the gospel, 1,745 gave their lives to Christ! I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to help train these church leaders to do this work. Who knows what would have happened to these souls had you not invested in God s global mission effort? Let us pray diligently for the local churches to disciple these new believers! Finally, this month we are resurrecting our Sunday School visitation program. We started reaching out to those in our community through weekly visitation again on March 30th. Every Monday we will be continuing this work to reach our community for Jesus Christ. So often we wait for people to come to us before we share with them the gospel. That is not the picture of the New Testament church. The church went to the people and proclaimed the gospel. Paul went out and met the people where they were. I m so glad Christ did not wait for us to turn to Him first; because we would never have turned to God on our own. Instead, He came to earth for us! I am convinced completely that if we will reach out to our community through the Sunday School ministry of this church, God will work through us to bring the lost to Him! Will you be a part of what God is doing? I hope so! Let us go serve Him! Pastor Jeff Pastor Rev. Jeff Waters
2 Page 2 T he Messe n ge r A pril 2015 A Note from the Minister of Music Rev. Eric Woods, Associate Pastor Of Music & Worship What an exciting time of worship we are looking forward to on Resurrection Sunday! The Worship Choir and Orchestra will be presenting the musical, Your Grace Still Amazes Me, during the 11:00 am service. Pastor Jeff will then preach a sermon entitled, Know Christ and the Power of His Resurrection, based on Philippians 3:7-11. Be sure to be here and invite your friends and family. Some will come to church on Easter, who will not come on any other Sunday, if they are invited. One of my favorite Easter songs is the hymn entitled, Christ Arose. In 1874, Robert Lowry, a pastor for over 45 years, penned this enduring song. The verses convey the somber mood of the aspects of Christ s death, juxtaposed with the euphoric joy of his resurrec- tion in the Chorus. As you go through the days leading up to Resurrection Sunday, remember that the words Lowry wrote are just as true today as they were in the late 1800 s. Christ was dead, but now he is alive forevermore! Low in the grave He lay-jesus, my Savior! Waiting the coming day-jesus my Lord! Up from the grave He arose, with a mighty triumph o er His foes. He arose a victor from the dark domain, and He lives forever with His saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose. Eric Woods Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God. Kelly s Korner Rev. Kelly Hitchcock Associate Pastor Of Youth & Children I am SO excited for Spring! I absolutely love this time of the year, as I m sure most of you do. It is also an exciting time in ministry, as we get to celebrate Easter, along with various other ministry events, and we are also looking ahead to our special summer trips. In our children s ministry, I am very much looking forward to our Easter Celebration Night in Awana. It s going to be Wednesday, April 1st. We ll be focusing on celebrating Jesus resurrection, and also having an Easter egg hunt. It s going to be a great night. Also, you may have noticed that our children s Sunday School classes (as well as Awana classes) have re-located! Yes, they are now down the hall nearest the Fellowship Hall. I am very appreciative of the classes that agreed to re-arrange so that our kids could be more centrally-located. It has certainly made things run a little smoother. In our Youth Ministry, we just got back from our DiscipleNow weekend up at Snowbird. It was an amazing few days of discipleship, worship, relationship-building, and fun! We even got to see some snow fall! Thank you to those of you who prayed for that particular weekend. One upcoming event I want to mention is a movie night, featuring the movie God s Not Dead which will be on Friday, April 24th. This is going to be a free movie, geared towards bringing in unchurched teenagers so that they can hear the gospel. Please be in prayer for this event. Thank you church, for your partnership in ministering to our teenagers and children. Please be in constant prayer over these two ministries! Serving Him, KELLY
