Grace Chronicle Spreading the Light PAGE 1: PAGE 2: PAGE 3: Special Mention Educational Trips Carol singing Dec-Jan-Feb issue, 2017 E-Newspaper Run E ByIt is always heart-warming to see the cupcakes of Grace Paper Volume 1, Issue 3 Academy perform. To see them perform, takes us back to our Pg. childhood. This time Grace Aademy organized the Open Run E programme for classes Nursery to II which commenced House th on 11 Feb The theme of the programme was Paper. Volume 1, Issue 3 PAGE 4: Farewell to our Seniors Pg.1 Open House Transformation: Growing in Jesus it was very exciting to see the - little ones in their cute outfits and to see their faces full of Run E excitement for their big day. They owned the stage with their plays, choreographies, Paper Volume 1, Issue 3 skits and recitations. To bring out the Pg. essence of the theme a skit was performed titled The Very 1 Hungry Caterpillar by the students of K.G. They performed a very reminiscent play Beauty and the Beast with the protagonist Avni Chauhan from Class II as Beauty and Ezra Samson as the Beast. Arnav was the handsome prince. The Mistresses of Ceremonies were Mrs. Nirupama and Mrs. Susheela Ali. The programme concluded with words of encouragement from our Principal, Mr. Newton and the Vote of Thanks by our Primary Superintendant Mrs. Sangeeta Ranjan. Some very tasty snacks were provided to complete the programme. SPECIAL MENTION : Miss Aanchal Bahadur By Aditi Masih & Shouriya Sundriyal We had the privilege of interviewing Aanchal Ma'am, a professional graphic designer who recently rejoined the Grace family. She is an alumnus of Grace and is the sister of one of our English teachers, Ms. Shefali Bahadur. Here's what she had to say in our little chat: Q. You are an alumnus of Grace. How does it feel to be back? It feels great to be back. I've been here since the beginning when the present buildings were just sheds. It's an honour to be back. Q. What drew you to work for this particular organisation? I started out in this field of graphic designing with a motive; it is a rare field and my main aim is to give quality work to Christian organisations. It is a pleasure to work for Grace as it has given me the foundation for who I am today. Q. What do you think has been your greatest achievement in your career so far? I have been a professional for the past one year and I have been given many projects which I am very thankful to God for. Completing those projects successfully has probably been my greatest achievement! Q. What do you like the most about your job? There is freedom of time in this career. You dont have to report to an office on time or answer to a boss. You get to travel around. I guess thats why I really love my work.
h Grace Chronicle Pg.2 EDUCATIONAL TRIPS REPUBLIC DAY REPORT By Sanjana Rana We celebrated the 68th Republic Day of India on the 26th of January 2017 by gathering at school and commemorating this auspicious occasion. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Colonel Sanjay Washington. He was led to hoist the National Flag by our principal, Mr Benjamin Newton and the school captains Karan Pant and Ashmita Rana. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the reciting of the Indian Pledge led by the school boy-captain, Karan Pant. The programme progressed with Mayank Bhatia (Class 8) reciting a self composed poem titled 'Mera desh mahan'. After that Mahima Bohra and Karuna Taylor read from the Holy Bible, the Word of God. Then the Chief Guest and school captains addressed the school. In the end a Vote of Thanks was given by our Vice Principal, Mr Andriyas Singh. And the students headed home after enjoying a ladoo, courtesy our school. - S. Nita Charlotte Doing something practical is always fun. Learning practically and visually was geniunely jocund rather than doing them theoretically. The long awaited educational trips arrived and we the students of Grace Academy got an opportunity to quench our curiosity. We understood the essence of the quote Learning has no limits and every new day has a new discovery. Our school took the effort to take us to interesting places. Class Nursery to I went to Gandhi Park. Class II went to Deer Park, Class III to the Forest Research Institute. Class IV students were taken to the Wadia Institute. Class V, VI and IX went to the knowledge-widening Regional Science Centre. Class VII visited the very exciting Wildlife Institute. Class VIII visited a historical place that is the old museum of ONGC and was really fascinated by it. Class X went to ONGC and got a glimpse of the functioning there. Class XI and XII were taken to one of Uttrakhand s top universities that is the UPES. Every student enjoyed and gave the feedback that these trips made learning interesting and that it was fun to do something outside the classroom. POLL OF THE MONTH -Shreya Lama and Samiksha Das 6 Those who want Boards Those who don't FEEDBACK I am not glad that next year Boards are resuming because we ll have to learn many things and there will be no FAs and it will be very hectic for us as we ll have to learn both the first and the second term s syllabus. Although, I am very glad that there will be no OTBA because many times there s no time left!!!
Grace Chronicle Pg. 3 Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted...but to weigh and consider. Francis Bacon Carol Singing - Sarah Shashoti Thangpa In the month of carol singing on 18th December, the hostel choir sang at Pacific Mall. The choir sang four melodious carols: Everybody Likes to Take a Holiday,O Come All Yea Faithful, It Came Upon a Midnight and Long Time Ago in Bethlehem and a duet O Holy Night by Blessy Kindo and Rhema Serto. After the choir the Chryslis band also preformed Silent Night followed by an instrumental on Mary Did You Know by Eric Gangte (lead guitarist), Subit Das (base guitarist) and Samuel Khiangte. They even actively participate in a mannequin challenge which the children enjoyed the most.the whole Grace residential children displayed great team work to bring happiness and the true message of the season.the people were very happy and joined in the carol singing. With this everyone present was surely blessed and all the children had a great evening. CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME By Aman Charan On 21 st December, 2016, Grace Academy proceeded with its first Christmas celebration since its grand approach toward the highly acclaimed Christian allegory The Pilgrim s Progress written by John Bunyan in Some may argue that it wasn t as grand as last year, but others may do so to state that it wasn t for lack of effort. None of us had the chance to brace ourselves for the unexpected surprises we were in for. This year, we were joined by the upbeat Christian-Pop band- Live Jam!! The band presented us with a few refreshing soundtracks of their own and the rush of spontaneity and energy through the crowd broke the mundane monotony and felt really uplifting. People were inspired by stories drawn from personal experience and were actually made to get involved in the programme than to just sit and listen. To sum up, Live Jam is what stood out and absolutely owned it! Moving on.amongst some other usual presentations was one unforgettable performance which was her Mary and Little Lamb. The little dramatization followed Mary (played by Mrs. Nancy Famer) and her Little Lamb (played by Mrs. Irene C. Khan) go through a moral crisis when Mary is forced to choose between her only companion and the lives of unaware civilians headed towards imminent doom. Finally, the lamb makes a selfless choice and Mary ends up making the ultimate sacrifice. Although, it sent the crowd hushed, and as I vaguely recall, a few kids in tears, both the teachers did a great job delivering the message of selfless sacrifice in the end. And despite the sad ending, the sight of the duo dancing around (and one of them wearing a white sheep) was not one to miss. So two thumbs-way up! Last but not the least, was the cricket match between the teachers and the students. As predicted by pretty much everyone, the boys owned the game and both played in good sporty spirit. And that s what really matters! So it wasn t as bad as what some people might think. Christmas here, is always something special. And it wouldn t come as a surprise if I m looking forward to what s in store for the next year.
3. Ujwal Sonkar- 2nd prize- Art Competition (Raj Bhawan) Grace Chronicle Pg. 4 FAREWELL TO OUR SENIORS -Anindita Mishra Henri David Thoreau said, Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as friends at a distance. They make up the latitude and longitudes. And as a student in grade XI, I couldn t agree more. Because that is what they are to us: Friends. As Class XII students appear for their boards all of us feel the yawning loss they leave behind. As expected, the senior-most batch was the liveliest in the school and brought colour to our scenery. Every single one of them has left their mark in some way or the other and we could not be more grateful. All this was expressed by us during the Farewell Programme that the school let us organise for our seniors. Through prayer, music, dance and even an amazingly compiled video all the students of XII were shown what they meant to everyone. It was a lovely day, but endings are inevitable so it was closed with prayer in hope of a bright future. In Case of an Earthquake.. By : Atulya Anna Alexander Windows rattle, beds sway and buildings shake..living in this part of India we know what this means - Earthquake!! Earthquakes are pretty frequent in Dehradun and in nearby areas. We recently experienced tremors during the earthquake with Rudraprayag as its epicentre. Here are a few things to do before, during and after an BEFORE AN EARTHQUAKE STRIKES: (1) Make a plan where to meet your family after an (2) Do not keep any heavy objects on shelves since they might fall during a quake and may injure someone. (3) Anchor heavy appliances or furniture onto walls or to the floors. DURING AN EARTHQUAKE: (1)Do not panic: when you feel tremors try to be calm and composed instead of panicking. This will help you keep a cool head to think of solutions in case of an emergency. But do not be very callous about an earthquake, it was this attitude that killed many people during the Nepal earthquake! (2) Evacuate the building: Evacuate as fast as possible while remaining calm. Do not push past people or run out. Use only staircases and avoid elevators. If you are unable to exit the building, get under a table or a bed and hold onto its legs. (3) Move out into an open space: Try to get to a field or to any area away from buildings, streetlights and utility wires. Stay there until the shaking stops. Winners Students of Grace Academy participated and won laurels in different events: 1. Aryan Sharma- 1st prize- Hindi Essay Writing Competition (Wadia Institiute) 2. Abhinav Robinson- 2nd prize- Science Quiz(Wadia Institute) AFTER AN EARTHQUAKE: (1) Check yourself and others for injuries. Always keep a small first-aid kit with you. (2) Check water lines, tanks and electric lines for damages. In a house or kitchen, check for the odour or leakage of cooking gas. (3) Report damage to concerned authorities. (4) Stay away from broken glass, debris and damaged buildings. (5)Expect aftershocks. With such preparations in mind and in action many casualities and loss of lives can be avoided in case of an
EDUCATIONAL TRIP FOR HUMANITIES -Yatila XI CH The class XI humanities students of our school were taken for an educational trip on the 27 th of February 2017 to the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, to give them practical insight into what they study. It is situated on Kalidas Road and is surrounded by serene beauty, well furnished campus and tight security. The students were informed about the knowledge and science of satellites and remote sensing. Overall, the students were grateful to the school for giving them an opportunity to learn outside the four walls of the classroom. SEBI Trip for Economics Students -Aryan Sharma Class XI Economics students were taken for a trip to SEBI to understand the basics of the securities market. It was a trip which was full of fun and also a great learning experience. The students reached the building by 10 o clock and were given a detailed presentation about the functions of SEBI. It was quite an interactive session with the students actively participating. After that, they saw an entertaining movie regarding the importance of savings. The movie was educational and hilarious at the same time. The trip came to a close with a look of satisfaction on the face of the students.
