EASTER SERVICES at Concord West Public School GOOD FRIDAY April 14 EASTER SUNDAY April 16 EASTER SUNDAY DINNER CELEBRATING JESUS THIS EASTER Leading up to Easter, we have been exploring the first four chapters of the Bible book of Exodus. In Exodus we meet a God who is irrevocably committed to the redemption and flourishing of humanity An exceptional God who uses ordinary people, exceptional places and paradoxical incidents to bring about His will and to fulfil humanity s deepest desire Justice, Purpose, Dignity and Redemption. Exodus shows us what God is like, how He sees his people and the extent to which He will go to save them so that they can worship Him in freedom and joy. Exodus foreshadows Easter. It gives us a primal understanding of the acts of God at Calvary. The journey that began with the Exodus finds its fullness in Jesus on Calvary's cross and the empty tomb. This is the Easter story Jesus at home with humanity. He lived, died and rose again by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus all our longings and deepest desires are fulfilled. He redeemed and reconciled our relationship with God, with one another and with creation. In celebrating Jesus this Easter, may we with renewed resolve display the beauty of Jesus and the Cross. May we experience God in ways we haven't encountered him before. It remains true that when we genuinely encounter Jesus, there is no way we can ever remain the same. Easter is here, it's 'sonrise' it s all about Jesus! Happy Easter! From Ola, Lead Pastor

HIGHLIGHTS FROM VISION SUNDAY AFFIRMATION OF OUR MISSION STATEMENT We reaffirmed our mission statement that We exist to love God and love people, encouraging everyone to grow into a passionately committed follower of Jesus. BEING A PASSIONATE FOLLOWER OF JESUS In affirming the Lordship of Jesus, we believe that a passionate follower of Jesus is one that is growing in three fundamental relationships Growing trust in Jesus (follow) Connecting with other followers of Jesus (fellowship) Inviting others to follow Jesus (fish) In seeking to encourage everyone to grow into passionately committed followers of Jesus, our strategic approach will have at its core these four emphases CONNECT connect relationally to grow spiritually SERVE become a refreshing presence locally and globally GROW be equipped holistically for missional living GIVE display the generosity, beauty and glory of God
HIGHLIGHTS FROM VISION SUNDAY Our deepest desire and vision for 2017 and beyond is to encourage and emphasize missional discipleship as Christ-centered friendship. We have themed this vision "Be One Make One" We are encouraging everyone through the enabling of the Holy Spirit, to prayerfully connect with one person (who is yet to follow Jesus) in their local neighbourhood or circle of influence and journey with them into a lifechanging relationship with Jesus. While we are prayerfully looking to start a New Expression of Church in Homebush and surrounding suburbs, we also strongly desire that our AM congregation will continue to be a transforming and refreshing presence in Concord West, Newington, Sydney Olympic Park, Wentworth Point, Rhodes and beyond.
ACTION STEPS. Some of the action steps for us this year and early 2018 are shown below. Dates will be announced soonest. We ll be sharing more about how we can all get involved next month during our Be One-Make One series.
MEET OCHOLA EMMANUEL EMMA When Dave and Tash Brice headed back to Uganda last year, we were keen for them to explore ways we could help support the community they lived and worked amongst. Ochola Emmanuel (or Emma for short) is a nurse at one of the clinics that Tash teaches at, and they have known each other for about a year and a half. As the eldest in his family, Emma is financially responsible for putting some of his siblings through school. This has resulted in him being unable to afford to further his own studies which he would really like to do. His dad is an Anglican minister, and his pay is not enough even to buy food for the whole family. His mum has also taken into their family her brother's children as her brother was killed in the war. Emma is the youth leader at his church, and has a great passion for kids, nursing and looking after the most vulnerable in his community. He is also great at public speaking. In recognising Emma's potential to be a game changer in his community and his passion for nursing, it was agreed that he would intern with Tash for 6 months with a focus on Leadership, Critical and Reflective thinking, Mentorship and Training, Quality Improvement, Education of both staff and community, Long term vision casting and Goal setting.
The outcomes and impacts of this internship are going to be farreaching Improved health and wellbeing of communities in the Gulu district, better health care delivery in Northern Uganda, improvement in clinical education standards and employment, increased level of skills and capabilities in role as Parish Youth Leader just to name a few. Bayside, and an individual sponsor, is making this a reality by financially supporting Emmanuel over the next 6 months. Please continue to pray for Emmanuel and Tash as they navigate this internship together, and for the wider community, that this will bring about positive and long-lasting change for them too. Things Emmanuel would like you to know AGE: 29yrs OCCUPATION : Enrolled Nurse/Youth RELIGION: Christianity (protestant/anglican) TOWN, COUNTRY: Gulu, Uganda TRIBE: Acholi MARITAL STATUS: Single HOBBIES: Singing and playing Christian music, discovering, walking, prayer meetings MY MOST IMPORTANT CURRENT INTEREST: Promoting spiritual and leadership roles in order to improve healthcare services in the community THANK YOU BAYSIDE
Happy Big Birthday Chris Prouty Ava Hallam started Kindy at Enfield Public School. I like writing and tracing letters. I like to go to the library. I like to eat my recess and I like to play with Sophie in the playground. Jordan Bartlett started Yr 7 at Concord High School It's great to have more freedom around the school. I like the variety of classes and having different teachers. However the teachers don't really get to know each student as quickly because we don't spend as much time with them. I don't like all the extra homework and having to wake up heaps earlier every day. But I guess I better keep going. ;)
CELEBRATING LIFE S MILESTONES Daniel Thor started Yr 7 at Concord High School. I like the fact that you use more technology in high school and also use your own laptop device. I also like the merit system as when you get to a certain amount of merits, you will get a reward such as free morning tea or a raffle ticket. Taj Thorne is house captain at Newington Public School I have to lead my house Thorpe and set a good example for all of the school. Some of my jobs are as a leader, for example, I have to set up and host assemblies and go to and run SRC meetings. I also lead my house in chants at our sporting carnivals. I am trying to be a leader that includes everyone but is also responsible with his duties. I also want to lead by example and show the whole school that they chose right when electing me.
LUNAR NEW YEAR WITH FRIENDS To celebrate the cultural diversity of our local area, Breathe joined in the Lunar New Year celebrations at Rhodes and Wentworth Point. We invited friends to join us for a fun night of good food and hanging out together. REFRESH CONVERSATIONS We re currently in the process of seeking God's refreshed and refocused direction for Breathe. Ola has led us in a number of conversations about 'Why' we do what we do, and 'Who' we are sent to serve. It's been an important time to reflect on our values and listen to where God might be leading us. Please pray for Breathe as these conversations continue over the coming weeks. EASTER PLANS Easter is coming soon! Breathe is planning on hosting a dinner on Easter Sunday so that we can build community and share the hope of Easter with our friends who don't yet know Jesus as a friend. Please join us in praying that the dinner will be a great time of community and conversation
