1 MORNING WORSHIP January 15, 2017 The Lord s Day Be Blessed this Week by Memorizing: This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Westminster Shorter Catechism: Q3: What does the Bible primarily teach? --1 John 4:10 (NIV) A: The Bible primarily teaches what man must believe about God and what God requires of man. Welcome and Announcements Leader: The Lord is risen! People: He is risen indeed! Introit; Preparation of Hearts for Worship Entering into Worship: Call to Worship Matthew 26:26-28 As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat. This is My body. And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you, for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
2 Songs of Adoration: What Wondrous Love is This (#261) (please note that an additional second stanza is included below which does not appear in the version of the song found in the Trinity Hymnal) What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul! What wondrous love is this, O my soul! What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul To bear the dreadful curse for my soul When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down When I was sinking down, sinking down When I was sinking down beneath God s righteous frown Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul Christ laid aside His crown for my soul To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing To God and to the Lamb I will sing To God and to the Lamb who is the great I AM While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing While millions join the theme, I will sing And when from death I m free, I ll sing on, I ll sing on And when from death I m free, I ll sing on And when from death I m free, I ll sing and joyful be And through eternity, I ll sing on, I ll sing on And through eternity, I ll sing on Marvelous Grace of Our Loving Lord (#465) Marvelous grace of our loving Lord Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt Yonder on Calvary s mount outpoured There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt Refrain: Grace, grace, God s grace, grace that will pardon and cleanse within Grace, grace, God s grace, grace that is greater than all our sin Sin and despair like the sea waves cold Threaten the soul with infinite loss Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold Points to the Refuge, the mighty cross (Refrain) Dark is the stain that we cannot hide What can avail to wash it away? Look! there is flowing a crimson tide Whiter than snow you may be today (Refrain) Words by Julia Johnston, Music by Daniel Towner, Prayer of Adoration and Invocation Words: unknown writer. Music by William Walker, 1835.
3 Confessing our Great Need and His Great Provision: Call to Confession 1 John 2:3-6 We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands. The man who says, I know Him, but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys His word, God s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in Him: whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did. Silent Prayer of Confession and Repentance God s Assurance of Pardon for His People 1 John 1:8-2:2 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His Word has no place in our lives. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only ours but also for the sins of the whole world. Confessing our Dependence upon the Lord Through Prayer Congregational Prayer; The Lord s Prayer The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Confessing God s Provision Through the Giving of our Tithes and Offerings Doxology (#731) Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heav nly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Words by Thomas Ken, Music attributed to Louis Bourgeois, Receiving His Word: John 14:15, 21, (p. 901) What True Love for Jesus Looks Like 15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 21 Whoever has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to Him. 23 Jesus answered him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and make our home with him. Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. And the word that you hear is not Mine, but the Father s who sent Me.
4 The Sacrament of the Lord s Supper (The following song will be played as the congregation comes forward to receive the Lord s Supper. The lyrics are provided here for your edification.) Come as you Are Come out of sadness from wherever you ve been Come broken-hearted, let rescue begin Come find your mercy; oh, sinner come kneel Earth has no sorrow that heaven can t heal Chorus: So lay down your burdens; lay down your shame All who are broken, lift up your face Oh, wanderer, come home; you re not too far So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart, come as you are There s hope for the hopeless and all those who ve strayed Come sit at the table; come taste the grace There s rest for the weary rest that endures Earth has no sorrow that heaven can t cure Chorus Come as you are; fall in His arms; come as you are There s joy for the morning; oh, sinner be still Earth has no sorrow that heaven can t heal Chorus Words and music by David Crowder, Matt Maher, and Ben Glover, 2014 Copyright, 2014, Thankyou Music Used by permission. CCLI # Song of Response: How Deep the Father s Love For Us (Black pew songbook) How deep the Father s love for us, how vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss. The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the chosen One, bring many sons to glory Behold the Man upon the cross, my sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life. I know that it is finished I will not boast in anything: no gifts, no pow r, no wisdom But I will boast is Jesus Christ: His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom Words and music by Stuart Townsend. Copyright, 1995, Thankyou Music. Used by permission. CCLI # Benediction Our Closing Confession The Gloria Patri (#735) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be World without end Amen, Amen Lyrics from the 2 nd century. Music by Henry Greatorex, 1851.
