Mortals try 18 to believe without understanding ; yet God is :28 Christian Science brings to light and its supremacy, universal har- 30 mony, the entireness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil :4 Vain ecstasies Science and Christianity If God, the All-in-all, be the creator of the spiritual universe, including man, then everything 6 entitled to a classification as truth, or Science, must be comprised in a knowledge or understanding of God, for there can be nothing beyond illimitable divinity :12 14, 17, Spirit, Life,, Love, combine as one, and are the Scriptural names for God. Divine synonyms No wisdom is wise but His 18 wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows., spiritually discerned, is scientifically understood. 3 8 And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. 17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. 18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? 19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. 22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. 23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. 24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth :1 Section 2 1 Now, as of old, casts out evils and heals the sick :13 19 The facts of divine Science should be admitted, although the evidence as to these facts is not supported 15 by evil, by matter, or by material sense, because the evidence that God and man coexist is fully sustained by spiritual sense. Man is, and forever has been, God s re- 18 flection. God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence :29 8 Subject sickness, sin, and death to the rule 30 of health and holiness in Christian Science, and you ascertain that this Science is demon- demonstrated strably true, for it heals the sick and sinning as no 1 other system can. Christian Science, rightly understood, leads to eternal harmony. It brings to light the 3 only living and true God and man as made in His likeness; whereas the opposite belief that man originates in matter and has beginning and end, that he is both 6 soul and body, both good and evil, both spiritual and material terminates in discord and mortality, in the error which must be destroyed by :1 5 1 If it is true that man lives, this fact can never change in Science to the opposite belief that man dies. Life is 3 the law of Soul, even the law of the spirit of, and Soul is never without its representative. Life not contingent on matter :20 Let Christian Science, 21 instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with, replace mortality with immortality, and silence dis- 24 cord with harmony The Christian Science Publishing Society. 4 7 John 1:14 Section 3 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 8 Matthew 4:23 23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 9 Matthew 13:10, 11, And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Section :14 Jesus strips all disguise from error, when his teachings 15 are fully understood. By parable and argument he explains the impossibility of good producing evil; Proof from and he also scientifically demonstrates this great miracles 18 fact, proving by what are wrongly called miracles, that sin, sickness, and death are beliefs illusive errors which he could and did destroy :6 13, 15 16, 19 20, It is sometimes said that Christian Science teaches the nothingness of sin, sickness, and death, and then teaches how this nothingness is to be saved and healed. Nothingness of error 9 The nothingness of nothing is plain; but we need to understand that error is nothing, and that its nothingness is not saved, but must be demonstrated in 12 order to prove the somethingness yea, the allness of The Christian Science Publishing Society. 5 15 Disbelief in error destroys error, and leads to the discernment of. We treat error through the understanding of, because is error s antidote. Material beliefs must be expelled to make room for 30 spiritual understanding :13 The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the im- 15 mutable and perfect. The inharmonious and The tares and wheat self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent. These opposite qualities are the tares 18 and wheat, which never really mingle, though (to mortal sight) they grow side by side until the harvest; then, Science separates the wheat from the tares, through the real- 21 ization of God as ever present and of man as reflecting the divine likeness :11 14 The Principle of divine metaphysics 12 is God; the practice of divine metaphysics is the utilization of the power of over error; its rules demonstrate its Science. 10 John 12:44, 46 Section 4 44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. 46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. 11 John 10:24, Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father s name, they bear witness of me. 12 Matthew 8:5 10, 13 5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel The Christian Science Publishing Society. 6 13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour. Section :7 Christ,, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of 9 Spirit over the flesh, to show that is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin :11 The Christlike understanding of 12 scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea, perfect God and perfect man, as the basis of thought and demonstration :1 1 If sickness is real, it belongs to immortality; if true, it is a part of. Would you attempt with drugs, 3 or without, to destroy a quality or condition of? But if sickness and sin are illusions, the awakening from this mortal dream, or illusion, will bring us into health, 6 holiness, and immortality. This awakening is the forever coming of Christ, the advanced appearing of, which casts out error and heals the sick. This is the sal- 9 vation which comes through God, the divine Principle, Love, as demonstrated by Jesus :14 16 You command the situation if you understand that 15 mortal existence is a state of self-deception and not the truth of being :28 Speak the truth to every form of error. Tumors, ulcers, 30 tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of :4 (only) is always the victor. 13 Ephesians 6:13 15 take Section 5 Morality required 13 take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 14 Acts 5:12 (to ;) 12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; 2014 The Christian Science Publishing Society. 7 15 Acts 11:25, 26 (to 1 st.) 25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: 26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. 16 Acts 13: And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region. 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts. 51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost. Section :29 Christianity is again demonstrating the Life that is 30, and the that is Life, by the apostolic work of casting out error and healing the Christianity still rejected sick. Earth has no repayment for the persecutions which 1 attend a new step in Christianity; but the spiritual recompense of the persecuted is assured in the elevation of ex- 3 istence above mortal discord and in the gift of divine Love :19 22, 24 The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; and he will overcome 21 them by understanding their nothingness and the allness of God, or good. 24 The Christian Scientist knows that they are errors of belief, which can and will destroy :12 14, When error confronts you, withhold not the rebuke or the explanation which destroys error. When the spiritual sense of unfolds its harmonies, you take no risks in the policy of error :27 27 If you launch your bark upon the ever-agitated but healthful waters of truth, you will encounter storms. Your good will be evil spoken of. This is the The cross and crown 30 cross. Take it up and bear it, for through it you win and wear the crown. 8 17 II Timothy 2:15 Section 6 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 18 II Timothy 3:14 17 continue 14 continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 19 III John 1:4 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth :24 Section 6 24 The infinite of the Christ-cure has come to this age through a still, small voice, through silent utterances and divine anointing which quicken and increase 27 the beneficial effects of Christianity. I long to see the consummation of my hope, namely, the student s higher attainments in this line of light :31 1 Systematic teaching and the student s spiritual growth and experience in practice are requisite for a thorough 1 comprehension of Christian Science :13 Whoever would demonstrate the healing of Christian Science must abide strictly by its rules, heed every state- 15 ment, and advance from the rudiments laid down. There is nothing difficult nor toilsome in this task, when the way is pointed out; but self-denial, sincerity, Christianity, and 18 persistence alone win the prize, as they usually do in every department of life :15 15 Beyond the frail premises of human beliefs, above the loosening grasp of creeds, the demonstration of Christian Mind-healing stands a revealed and practical Revelation of Science 18 Science.
