5 Speakers His Eminence Marc Cardinal Ouellet (Keynote Speaker) Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America and formerly Archbishop of Quebec. Prof. Salvador Ryan is Professor of Ecclesiastical History at St Patrick s College, Maynooth, and has published in the area of popular religion in late medieval and early modern Ireland. Rev. Prof. Piero Coda is President of the Sophia University Institute, Loppiano, Florence. He was formerly Professor of Fundamental Theology at the Lateran Pontifical University, Rome, Secretary of the Pontifical Academy of Theology and President of the Italian Theologians Association. Rev. Prof. Eamonn Conway is the head of Theology and Religious Studies at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, and is a former President of the European Society for Catholic Theology. His Eminence Kurt Cardinal Koch is President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. From the diocese of Basel, Switzerland, Cardinal Koch was formerly Professor of Theology at Lucerne. Rev. Prof. Martin Stuflesser from Germany is Professor of Liturgy at Julius- Maxmillians University in Würzburg. He has published widely and since 2003 is Secretary of the International Society for Liturgical Study and Renewal (Societas Liturgica). Rev. Prof. Brian Johnstone from Australia is Professor of Moral Theology/Ethics in the Catholic University of America, specialising in Bioethics, Moral Theology and the Philosophy of the Gift project. Rev. Dr. Brendan Purcell, a priest of the Archdiocese of Dublin, is Adjunct Professor in Philosophy at Notre Dame University, Sydney. Formerly he was senior lecturer in Philosophy in University College Dublin. Rev. Prof. Robert Enright, Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, U.S.A., has pioneered the scientific study of forgiveness, which now claims over 1,000 researchers worldwide. Dr. Clare Watkins is a Catholic theologian, teacher and writer. She teaches at the Westminster Seminary and is a member of the International Methodist-Roman Catholic Commission.
6 Speakers Prof. Joris Geldhof is Professor of Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology at the Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium where he is Chair of the Liturgical Institute. He is Editor in Chief of the bilingual journal Questions Liturgiques/Studies in Liturgy. Rev. Dr. Theodore Mascarenhas, a priest from Goa, is in charge of the Departments of Asia, Africa and Oceania at the Vatican s Pontifical Council for Culture. He also lectures at the Pontifical Gregorian University, the Pontifical St. Thomas University, Rome and the Pilar Theological College, Goa. Rev. Dr. Brendan McConvery, born in Belfast, is a member of the Redemptorist Congregation. He is an author and lecturer in Sacred Scripture, with a concentration in the area of Old Testament, at St Patrick s College, Maynooth. Rev. Prof. Michael McCabe, SMA is Head of the Mission Studies Department of the School of Theology at Tangaza College, Nairobi. He was President of the Executive Committee of the Africa/Europe Faith and Justice Network (AEFJN) from Rev. Prof. Slawomir Nowosad is Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations and Professor at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland where he is also Head of the Department of Ecumenical Moral Theology. Rev. Prof. Geoffrey Wainwright is a British Methodist Theologian well-known for his ecumenical writings and engagement in official dialogues. He was awarded the 2005 Johannes Quasten Medal by the Catholic University of America for "Excellence in Theological Scholarship". His Eminence Oscar Andrés Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga, is Archbishop of Tegucigalpa (Honduras). As a Salesian priest, he was Professor of Moral Theology and Ecclesiology at the Salesian Theological Institute, Guatemala, and later its Rector. He is President of the Episcopal Conference of Honduras and President of Caritas International. Prof. Teresa Okure, SHCJ is Professor of New Testament and Gender Hermeneutics at the Catholic Institute of West Africa, Nigeria where she was former Dean of the Faculty of Theology. She is a member of various national and international theological and biblical associations. Prof. Geraldine Smyth, OP is Senior Lecturer in Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies at the Irish School of Ecumenics. Formerly Director of ISE, she has been involved for some years in the Post-Conflict Justice Centre in Trinity College Dublin.
7 Speakers Prof. Stefano Zamagni is Professor of Economics at the University of Bologna. From 1999 to 2007 he was President of ICMC (an NGO based in Geneva dealing with migrant and refugee issues) and is a fellow of Human Development and Capability Association (Harvard University). Rev. Prof. Nicholas Sagovsky was Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey from He is a member of ARCIC III. He has held lecturing positions in Edinburgh Theological College, Clare College, Cambridge, and from he was Professor of Theology and Public Life, Liverpool Hope University College. Prof. Gill Goulding, CJ (Loreto), is Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Spirituality at the University of Toronto. She has lectured in Systematic Theology and Spirituality in the University of Edinburgh, the Roman Catholic National Seminary in Scotland and the Theological Institute of the Scottish Episcopal Church. Rev. Prof. Finbarr Clancy, SJ is Professor of Theology at the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy, Dublin, where he is also currently Rector of the Ecclesiastical Faculty and Acting President. He is the Chairman of the Patristic Symposium, St Patrick s College, Maynooth. Rev. Dr. Dermot Lane is President of the Mater Dei Institute, a college of Dublin City University. He has also taught at the Irish School of Ecumenics in Dublin and is a frequent lecturer in the United States. Rev. Prof. Thomas Norris is a member of the International Theological Commission. Formerly he was Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at St. Patrick s College, Maynooth, and joint secretary of the Irish Inter-Church Meeting. Rev. Michael Drumm, a former director of the Mater Dei Institute of Eduction, is currently Executive Chairperson of the Catholic Schools Partnership, an umbrella group providing support for all of the partners in Catholic schools in the Republic of Ireland. Dr. Julie Canlis has lectured in the field of Trinitarian Theology and Theological Anthropology in Canada and Scotland. She was awarded a Templeton Award for her extensive work on communion in Calvin and Irenaeus at the University of St Andrews (Scotland). Dr. Jennifer O Reilly is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy. Senior Lecturer in Medieval History in University College Cork until 2008, she now teaches Art History. Her research interests include the influence of traditions from the world of Late Antiquity on Insular Art and Writing.
8 Booking and Contact Details The year 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. The Theology Symposium will explore the vision behind its Ecclesiology of Communion and consider the questions that arise. As an international event, the symposium will be enriched by expert contributions from international scholars across the disciplines of Theology (Scripture, Systematics, Moral Theology, Liturgy, Pastoral Studies, Missiology and Ecumenics). There will be plenary sessions, seminars and liturgies. The symposium is aimed at participants who have at least a graduate level (or equivalent) of study in Theology.
