1 XVI. European Forum for Religious Education On the Way to the Periphery of Christianity Religious Education as an Invitation Prague, th April 2014, Centrum Mariapoli Mladoboleslavská 667, CZ Praha 9 Vinoř Tel.: Fax: cmpraha@espol.cz
2 Our topic ON THE WAY TO THE PERIPHERY OF CHRISTIANITY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AS AN INVITATION The world is experiencing an alarming economic crisis, which also hits moral and religious areas, or is even caused by them. Changes in values are noticeable in social development, too. A kind of devaluation of existing standards is often promoted. New reading of Second Vatican Council, just 50 years later, can bring new impulses today. The basic idea of the Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes was then opted for a deeper view of the world, which is still valid and contains explosive power for both the Church and society. The picture Courtyard of the Gentiles in the Jerusalem Temple in nowadays understood by the Church as a dialogue with non-believers and those who are distancing themselves from the faith. The Church seeks new opportunities for this dialogue. This should encourage us to reach the periphery of Christianity (Pope Francis). In order to make the language of the Church understandable and addressing today, it is necessary to develop a new language and new forms of expression of the faith. Psalm Sing to the Lord a New Song (Ps 149,1) is understood as an invitation and a commitment. Israel gained a new concept of God after experiencing the world periphery, in exile, and sang a corresponding new song. Let s try it likewise today. Prague, 6 th April 2013
