About the Leadership Training Institute Saint Paul Street Evangelization is a grassroots, non-profit Catholic evangelization organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking our Catholic faith to the streets. We do this in a non-confrontational way, allowing the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of those who witness our public Catholic presence. St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for you to share the Person of Jesus Christ and the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith with a hungry culture. Our apostolate has a world-wide impact with more than 300 local evangelization teams, a volunteer regional missionary program, and a full-time urban missionary program that all extends far beyond the street. Tens of thousands of people are being evangelized, responding to the Gospel, becoming disciples, and finding faith, hope, and healing. In light of this growth we are holding our second Leadership Training Institute to form leaders in Catholic evangelization who desire to serve in their local communities. There are three basic tracks available at the Leadership Institute: Basic Evangelization Training September 23, 2017 For those who are interested in evangelization but have limited or no experience or those who just want to brush up on their skills. The BET at the Leadership Institute takes place over one day and is taught by both experts and our new recruits. It s always a fun time together. Advanced Evangelization Training September 21-22, 2017 For those with a basic knowledge of the Catholic faith, the work of evangelization, and trends in evangelization today. The workshop takes place over two days and is taught by experts in their fields. Regional Missionary Training September 21-24, 2017 This track involves an application process, and is meant for those interested in taking a leadership position at St. Paul Street Evangelization. Regional Missionary applicants attend the Advanced Evangelization Training, teach during the Basic Evangelization Training, and then attend an additional day of training to become a regional missionary. We look forward to seeing you at the Institute!

1 Track Basic Evangelization Training The Basic Evangelization Training is among the most hands on, practical, and dynamic evangelization workshops available for Catholics today. Participants will gain the confidence they need to be enthusiastic and joyful evangelists as they overcome that very common fear of sharing the faith. Participants who complete the training will receive basic certification, membership on our online training site, and materials to engage their parishes and schools in the work of evangelization. Participants will learn through presentations, group discussions, and handson demonstrations as they practice using methods and tools that really work. This training is useful for all kinds of evangelization. Whether you want to evangelize family and friends, coworkers, on the street, or with a program at church, you ll find a lot to use here. DATE: September 23, 2017 TIME: 8:00 AM 5:00 PM COST: $50 Morning Hospitality, Lunch, and Materials Included SCHOLARSHIPS: Available on a fi rst come basis for those with a fi nancial need. CERTIFICATION: Basic Certifi cation through the SPSE National Offi ce REGISTRATION: streetevangelization.com Topics Include: 1. The Four Great Questions 2. Evangelization & Modern Culture 3. The New Evangelization 4. The Art of Christian Listening 5. Basic Etiquette for the Evangelist 6. The Kerygma: Sharing the Story 7. Christian Testimony 8. Evangelical Apologetics & One Good Reason 9. Prayer & the Evangelist According to Jeff Cavins: St. Paul Street Evangelization will give you the tools you need to articulate your relationship with Christ to a hungry, broken world. What a thrill to see them on the street talking to people who were looking for God. When so many efforts in promoting the New Evangelization are focused primarily on catechesis about evangelization, St. Paul Street Evangelization teaches Catholics, no matter their previous education or experience, how to actually share their faith with others effectively and enthusiastically.

2 Track Advanced Evangelization Training is for those with some evangelization experience, such as parish and diocesan staff, parish volunteers, small group leaders, SPSE team members and team leaders, current SPSE regional missionaries, and anyone with an interest in evangelization who feels that they already have a grasp of the basics. Topics here are more in-depth and academic, yet they still have a strong connection to practical implementation in the field. Each lecture is given by an expert in the field of evangelization, theology, or scripture. Advanced Evangelization Training DATE: September 21-22, 2017 TIME: 9:00 AM 5:00 PM Both days COST: $125 Morning Hospitality, Lunch, and Materials Included SCHOLARSHIPS: Available on a fi rst come basis for those with a fi nancial need. CERTIFICATION: Intermediate Certifi cation through the SPSE National Offi ce REGISTRATION: streetevangelization.com Topics include: 1. The History of Fruitful Evangelization 2. The Eucharist & Evangelization 8. You Will Receive Power: Ministry for Healing 9. Evangelizing the Cultural Man Advanced evangelization training is required for all participants on the Regional Missionary track. Anyone who has completed Basic Evangelization Training, has experience as a team member or team leader with St. Paul Street Evangelization, and completes the Advanced Evangelization Training will qualify for Intermediate Certification through St. Paul Street Evangelization.

3 Track Regional Missionary Training St. Paul Street Evangelization is recruiting additional regional missionaries to join the two dozen currently working with our apostolate. Regional missionaries are respected in dioceses across the US as leaders in the New Evangelization who cooperate with the Church to further the mission of the Gospel. Regional Missionaries plant teams, support existing teams, offer speaking and workshop opportunities, and serve as advocates for our ministry. DATE: September 21-24, 2017 TIME: 9:00 AM Thursday until 3:00 PM Sunday Cost: Free for accepted applicants. The institute, materials, and some meals are included. Housing and transportation are not provided. CERTIFICATION: Intermediate Certifi cation through the SPSE National Offi ce, Regional Missionary Certifi cation APPLICATION: streetevangelization.com/lti/ APPLICATION: September 1, 2017 DEADLINE: As an applicant, you will spend four days with other Catholic leaders preparing for and practicing the work that you will take up as a regional missionary in our apostolate. Two days include lectures on advanced topics in evangelization. You will also spend time evangelizing on the street with staff from our national office, and we will teach you how to present our workshops as well as what is expected of you as a regional missionary. You will then spend one day with other applicants teaching a live course at the seminary under the evaluation of the staff of our national office. While we hope that all of those who attend will be brought on as regional missionaries, acceptance into the institute is not a guarantee of acceptance as a regional missionary. Our goal is to thoroughly vet each person who applies for the institute; those who successfully complete the institute and have satisfactory evaluations may receive an offer to become a regional missionary. Application Requirements 1. Regional coordinators, team leaders, and team members with at least 3 months of active experience with St. Paul Street Evangelization are eligible to apply. 1. Those with at least 2 years of faith-formation or evangelization experience, part-time or full-time, paid or volunteer, with a Catholic parish, diocese, school, apostolate, or campus ministry may apply. 1. Those with a minimum of a B.A. in theology, scripture, the New Evangelization, catechesis, or similar subject who can demonstrate strong speaking skills and a passion for evangelization are also eligible to apply. 1. Graduates of the Catholic Biblical School and similar programs may apply.

By successfully completing the institute, each participant will be employed as an independent contractor with the title Regional Missionary. There is no salary or hourly wage, but regional missionaries will earn speaking fees, bonuses, and commission. The possibility of promotion from within the apostolate exists. We have hired some of our regional missionaries on as full-time employees. Successful applicants will be permitted to run Basic Evangelization Training and Evangelical Apologetics workshops in their regions and provide formal certification for those courses. Using our promotional materials, they will call, , and approach diocesan staff, priests, directors of religious education, campus ministers, and youth ministers about starting teams and offering workshops. Those with degrees or certificates in youth ministry from appropriate institutions will also be able to offer our Youth Encounter workshop. The national office will provide all of the materials regional missionaries need to be successful. In addition they will be authorized to act on behalf of the apostolate to offer shorter introductory and small break-out group talks provided by the national office.

Leadership Training Institute SACRED HEART MAJOR SEMINARY DETROIT, MICHIGAN SEPTEMBER ₂₁-₂₄, ₂₀₁₇ SCHEDULE: Advanced Evangelization Training September 21, :00 am Conference 1 The History of Fruitful Evangelization The focus here is to study the history of fruitful movements of evangelization in the Church. What were the cultural conditions surrounding these movements, and how do they compare to today? What can we learn from these movements that we can apply to our work of evangelization? This conference will start with the event of Pentecost and end with St. John Paul II. Presented by: Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church, Ann Arbor, MI 10:30 am Conference 2 Our Wounded Nature: How We Shape Ourselves The modern view of the human person leads us to believe that we are just a bundle of desires that need to be satisfied; that there is no objective truth that should guide our decisions. People recoil at the claim that there is truth; they find it arrogant and confining and want to be free to do whatever they like. But we can t escape the fact that we shape ourselves with our choices and that there are good and bad choices. Realization of this can lead to radical conversion. Presented by: Dr. Janet Smith, Fr. Michael J. McGivney Chair of Life Ethics, Sacred Heart Major Seminary 12:00 pm Mass & Lunch 2:00 pm Conference 3 Jesus as the Model of All Evangelization The focus here is to study the life of Jesus as a model for evangelization. Emphasis will be given to the Holy Family, the ministry of Jesus, and his passion, death, and resurrection. How did Jesus interact with people as He proclaimed the Gospel, and what methods did He use? What is the role of Joseph & Mary in evangelization? How can we best use their example, especially through the domestic church, to evangelize today? Presented by: Dr. Robert Fastiggi, Professor of Systematic Theology, Sacred Heart Major Seminary 3:30 pm Conference 4 He Who Believes: The Spiritual Life The focus here is to study the saints as models of the spiritual life for the evangelist. What is required of us to become saints? How do we balance the contemplative life and the active life? What more should we do than just weekly Mass and monthly Confession? Can we be effective evangelists and still live in patterns of habitual or serious sin? We will study the Three Great Ways and how to start on a path towards sainthood. Presented by: Fr. Ignatius Manfredonia F.I. 5:00 pm Dinner on your own 7:00 pm Evangelize Detroit Meet at decided upon place in Detroit to evangelize from 7:00 9:00 PM with the team.

SCHEDULE: Advanced Evangelization Training September 22, :00 am Conference 5 Salvation: Responding to Mercy The focus here is to study the role of faith and repentance for salvation. Modeled in the Catholic liturgy and sacraments, the gift of the Fear of the Lord is the foundation of the spiritual life and the normal means of salvation. We will study the importance of the call to repentance and conversion to evangelization. Presented by: Dr. Ralph Martin, Renewal Ministries 10:30 am Conference 6 The Eucharist & Evangelization The focus here is to study the Eucharist as the source and summit of our faith. What does that mean for evangelization? We will look at how the Eucharist has been used in evangelization. Examples will include Eucharistic processions, Perpetual Adoration, and Eucharistic Miracles. Presented by: Fr. John Vandenakker, Companions of the Cross 12:00 pm Mass & Lunch 2:00 pm Conference 7 You Will Receive Power: Ministry for Healing The focus here is to study the use of signs and wonders in evangelization. From the ministry of Jesus, to the Acts of the Apostles, to the saints, the history of the Church is filled with miracles, signs, and wonders all aiding the process of conversion. We will study how to pray with others for these miracles. Presented by: Fr. Mathias Thelen, Diocese of Lansing 3:30 pm Conference 8 Evangelizing the Cultural Man The focus here is to study the foundations of our current cultural situation and the philosophical assumptions that led modern man to declare that God is dead. Starting in the Middle Ages and progressing to today, we ask why it is that so many people are shedding their faith? How can we use this knowledge and everything we have learned in this institute to fruitfully evangelize modern man and create a culture of discipleship? Presented by: Mary Ann Wiesinger, Archdiocese of Miami 5:00 pm Preparation for BET Those on the Regional Missionary Tract will stay to prepare for their section of the Basic Evangelization Training on Saturday.
