Reading: Acts: 1-8 In the first book, Theophius, I wrote about a that Jesus did and taught from the beginning unti the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Hoy Spirit to the apostes whom he had chosen. After his suffering he presented himsef aive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. Whie staying with them, he ordered them not to eave Jerusaem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. "This," he said, "is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you wi be baptized with.. the Hoy Spirit not many days from now." So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, is this the time when you wi restore the kingdom to Israe?" He repied, "It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you wi receive power when the Hoy Spirit has come upon you; and you wi be my witnesses in Jerusaem, in a Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." The Word of the Lord. 7 Reading: Phiippians 2: 1-11 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consoation from ove, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy compete: be of the same mind, having the same ove, being in fu accord and of one mind. Do nothing from sefish ambition or conceit, but in humiity regard others as better than yourseves. Let each of you ook not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equaity with God as something to be expoited, but emptied himsef, taking the form of a save, being born in human ikeness. And being found in human form, he humbed himsef and became obedient to the point of death-- even death on a cross. Therefore God aso highy exated him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee shoud bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shoud confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the gory of God the Father. The Word of the Lord! (Pause for refection) Intercessions: Strengthened by the power of the Hoy Spirit we pace our needs before God as we pray for a Christians, that the winds of a new Pentecost may move us to peace and justice - Hoy Spirit, renew us in your ove. -5-

For a those who nourish us in faith, that the Spirit of prudence and wisdom may be sown in their ives, - Hoy Spirit, renew us in your ove. For our community that the Spirit of ardent ove may inspire us to a greater service of one another, - Hoy Spirit, renew us i~ your ove. For famiies, parents and chidren, that they may enjoy and ove each other, - Hoy Spirit, renew us in your ove. For our reatives, friends and benefactors and a the members of the Hoy Spirit Missionary Association, - Hoy Spirit, renew us in your ove. For a the members of St. Arnod's three reigious communities around the word, - Hoy Spirit, renew us in your ove. Living and gracious God, give us the strength to speak your wisdom and the ove to accompish your wi. We ask this through Christ our strength and our Risen Savior. Amen. Loving and faithfu God - We give you thanks and praise for Jesus, the source of peace and ight in our word, bazing forth in our midst this day. As the shades of evening gather, we offer you our sacrifice of praise for the presence of Christ. With joy, we join Mary, our Mother in echoing the song of your promise: the hungry have their fi, the owy are raised to new heights. A praise and thanks be yours through Christ and the Hoy Spirit forever and ever. Amen. Cantice of Mary: GS 22-6-

L: We gather together today in expectant ove. Before God, our Creator, with praise and trustfu thanksgiving, we seek to prepare our minds and hearts for the promise of the Breath - the Wind - the Spirit of God - Teacher and Comforter - Renewer and Guide. Let us pause for a few moments to aow our hearts to come to a pace of peace, of quiet, and of rest. Sing: You fi the day with your gory and your power, You fi the night with your quiet and your deep ove. 1. In Scripture, the Hoy Spirit is ikened to the Wind: "And suddeny there came from the sky a noise ike a strong driving wind, and it fied the entire house in which they were... they were a fied with the Hoy Spirit." Acts 2: "The wind bows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with every. one who is born of the Spirit." John3: 8 1. "For the LORD God is a sun and shied; he bestows favor and honor. No good thing does the LORD withhod from those who wak uprighty." Psam 84: II 2. The sun sha no onger be your ight by day, nor for brightness sha the moon give ight to you by night; but the LORD wi be your everasting ight, and your God wi be your gory. Isaiah 60: 19-8-

1. The Spirit is aso compared to rain that waters the and to bring forth a fruitfu harvest: "Unti a spirit from on high is poured out on us, and the widerness becomes a fruitfu fied, and the fruitfu fied is deemed a forest." Isaiah 32: "Let us know, et us press on to know the LORD; his appearing is as sure as the dawn; he wi come to us ike the showers, ike the spring rains that water the earth." Hosea 6: 3 1. God in the genteness of the Spirit cas us to trust. "For I, the LORD your God, hod your right hand; it is I who say to you, "Do not fear, I wi hep you." Isaiah 41:13 2. "Can a woman forget her nursing chid, or show no compassion for the chid of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I wi not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the pams of my hands... " Isaiah 49: L: God, then, in pouring out the Spirit upon us, does so that as wind, rain and sun cause the and to become fruitfu and yied a rich harvest, we too, in eaving ourseves open to the Spirit may become more and more ike Jesus, God's beoved Son. Through Christ our trust wi become a bond of intimate union with the Father, making of us a peope after his own heart, God's chidren and heirs. A: This we beieve by the power of the Hoy Spirit. -9-

Reading: Romans 5: 1-5 A: Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sh~ring the gory of God. And not ony that, but we aso boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's ove has been poured into our hearts through the Hoy Spirit that has been given to us. The Word of the Lord. But when the funess of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the aw, in order to redeem those who were under the aw, so that we might receive adoption as chidren. And because you are chidren, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So you are no onger a save but a chid, and if a chid then aso an heir, through God. Gaatians 4: 4-7 L: Let us pray. Gracious God, how itte do we understand the greatness of your promised gift, the Hoy Spirit.. 1. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itsef uness it abides in the vine, neither can you uness you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away ike a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it wi be done for you. My Father is gorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my discipes. As the Father has oved me, so I have oved you; abide in my ove. If you keep my commandments, you wi abide in my ove, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his ove.
