Online course are only open to matriculated students who are taking them for credit. Focus on the listening skills of attending, accurate empathy, clarifying and focusing. Use of audio and video. No audit PCGR-7420 Death, Dying, & Bereavement Dr. Mary Beth Werdel Tuesday, May 31st- Saturday, June 4th; 10:00AM-4:30PM Focus on integrating theoretical knowledge, ministerial skills and personal experiences in relation to specific topics and issues. Not just how to minister, but how one goes about explaining the meaning of loss, death and grief REGR-6188 Religious Education & Human Development Carl Procario-Foley Monday, June 13th- Friday, June 17th; 10:00AM-4:30PM This course examines this question as it explores a religious education perspective to the topic of human growth and development. Students will analyze their own ministry contexts with particular attention to the interface of human development thought and religious education models. The impact of contemporary cultural trends on human development will be explored as they relate to ministerial questions and situations SPGR-6746 Franciscan Spirituality Dr. C. Colt Anderson Monday, June 6th- Friday, June 10th; 10:00AM-4:30PM Explores the religious experiences of Francis and Clare from their own writings as well as biographical materials and examines the spiritual teachings that Clare and Francis bequeathed to the religious orders they founded. Special emphasis is placed on the balance they achieved between the contemplative and active lifestyles and on the evangelical values that characterize the Franciscan approach to ministry. Some consideration will be given to representative Franciscan figures who have exemplified the interplay of theology, spirituality and ministry, suggesting outlines of the same for today REGR-8123 Imagination: Ministry and Religious Education Dr. Kieran Scott Monday, June 6th- Friday, June 10th; 10:00AM-4:30PM This course explores the link between the imagination, patterns of church ministry and religious educational activity. The role and power of imagination in disclosing new life and re-visioning our work are examined. A central focus is the critical exploration of the images, metaphors and guiding visions undergirding educational and ministerial work in churches and our public life. Our educational and ministerial task is to create a counter-discourse to the dominant discourse of our time. Particular perspectives (the religious, prophetic, feminist, artistic) are employed as resources for enriching imagination, fostering a counter discourse and cultivating imaginative activity with people. 2 P a g e

Consideration of religious resources and identity, theories of the counseling process and practical issues of therapeutic relationship, contract, setting, referral, etc REGR-6125 Moral Education & Development Dr. Harold Horell This course explores various aspects of moral education. The topic will be explored from various perspectives: theology, psychology, education, sociology, and the arts. It will aid those involved in religious education and pastoral ministry to make effective use of the arts in their work. Provides a framework for exploring foundational issues of morality and moral development, including how our understandings of the human person, community, and attitude toward the natural environment shape our moral outlook. Emphasis is placed on enabling religious educators and pastoral ministers to make moral formation an integral dimension of education in Christian faith RLGR-6030 Christology TBA This is an introductory Christology course principally from a Roman Catholic perspective. Biblical, historical, and contemporary Christology will be examined SPGR-6702 History of Christian Spirituality 1 Chad Thralls This course will explore a number of the significant figures and themes that characterized the development of Christian Spirituality from its beginnings until the Reformation. Readings will be drawn from classical spiritual texts and relevant secondary literature PMGR-6618 Hispanic Family Ministry & Catechesis Valerie Torres This course will study the lived reality of U.S. Hispanic families. It will challenge participants to critically reflect, analyze and articulate in what ways family ministry and family catechesis is embodied in families and faith communities today; to explore what helps or hinders religious development within families, and the responsibility of church and society to foster growth in faith; to explore experientially based frameworks for ministering with Latino communities; and to nuance their role as religious educators. 3 P a g e
4 10800 REGR 6311 Digital Catechesis Dr. Lope Lesigues REGR 7311 The Digital Catechesis course provides a new social landscape for imagining faith formation and religious education today. This new landscape integrates Pope Francis clarion call for New Evangelization and the worthy potentials of the New Media, to come up with a leadership agenda that offer ways to explore and call into question traditional assumptions and understanding of both the catechetical and the technological. The course s goal is to lead pastoral leaders to viewing digital catechesis as a vital expression of the truly catechetical in contemporary religious context RLGR 6024 Prophets Dr. Giovanna Czander A study of Old Testament prophets and prophetic books from a historical, literary, and theological perspective with particular focus on the prophets roles and their enduring message. Summer B Online: June 27 th to August 11 th PCGR-6382 Social & Cultural Foundations in Counseling Dr. Cheryl Fisher This course will explore the multicultural dimensions of counseling. It will elaborate the social and cultural goals of therapy from this perspective. Various theories, research and practice of counseling will be developed, including the spiritual dimensions of theory PCGR-6510 Advanced Adult Development Carol McGinnis The purpose of this course will be to help students expand their awareness and their experience of advanced life-span development in the context of pastoral and spiritual care. We will be using Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory of human development as our starting point, specifically the developmental tasks he assigns to the stages of the life cycle from adolescence to the end of life: identity, intimacy, generativity, and integrity RLGR-6010 Old Testament TBA The course will introduce students to the academic study of the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible taking a twopronged approach: a personal and communal engagement with biblical texts and methodological awareness. Students will learn to explore the Old Testament as Scripture while also learning to appreciate its role and value as personal and communal document, important for religious understanding and spiritual growth RLGR-6032 Church & Society Fr. Francis Donio This course reviews how the community established by Jesus Christ, also known as the Church, has been 4 P a g e
5 theologically understood over time. We will examine the biblical understanding of the Church in the first part of the course. While the second part focuses on the way that the Church has been understood throughout history, and the final part concentrates on some contemporary ecclesiologies and issues facing the Church. Other Classes Students must have permission from their faculty mentor to register for Field Placement, Format Review, Qualifying Paper and Clinical Pastoral Education in writing. Students who have completed MA coursework and are completing research must register for maintenance of matriculation. 8 The American Museum of Natural History Open: 7 days a week, 10 AM 5:45 PM Central Park West at 79th Street, New York, NY Fee: Students $17 (recommended) The Outdoors Central Park Over 156 years old and comprised of over 750 acres, you can pack a picnic, ride a bike, rent a row boat, ice skate in the winter, visit the zoo, or just chill out in this beautiful oasis nestled in a bustling city. A visit to Central Park is something to experience. Entrance to the park is free (the zoo, boat rentals, etc., have a fee) During the summer, find Shakespeare in the Park, often including famous actors, which offers a free lottery to possibly win tickets: The Bronx Zoo The zoo is 265 acres of wildlife habitats, including exhibits, like Tiger Mountain, Himalayan Highlands, Congo Gorilla Forest, and World of Reptiles. General admission is free all day on Wednesdays at the Bronx Zoo. The New York Botanical Gardens Across the street from Fordham s Rose Hill Campus, the NYBG is a National Historic Landmark, and hosts over one million living plants in extensive collections. Admission is free to everyone all day on Wednesdays and from 9:00AM 10:00AM on Saturdays. Other days it is $22 for students. Ballet & Broadway The NYC Ballet Only two blocks from our Lincoln Center Campus. New York City Ballet's home is in the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, between West 62nd and 65th Streets and Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues. The Box Office is located in the lobby of the theater. Tickets start at $29. Broadway Coupons for discount Broadway tickets are located inside the entry to the Office for Student Involvement. The Office for Student Involvement does not sell discount Broadway tickets, rather you must come and pick up the coupon and purchase the ticket on your own. Coupons can be picked up during office hours, from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Coupons for available shows change every few months so check back on a regular basis!
