2 Welcome to your Daring Daughters E-Course! Daring Daughters is a 12-week mother-daughter mentoring course. This course is designed to be an enjoyable time of growing closer together as moms and daughters as we both deepen our personal relationships with Jesus and seek His plan for our lives. A specific dualfocus of this course is God s Great Commandment and God s Great Commission loving God and loving others. Throughout this course, we will be learning about many specific world needs that should concern us as Christian women and teenage girls. Together, we can help to expand God s kingdom and to be a light for Jesus. Throughout this E-Course, we re also going to work together to begin making FORWARD-MOVEMENT in some specific goals YOU both have for your lives. We re going to talk together, dream together, pray together... and then we ll begin to make some specific targeted steps for action and change. 2 Week 1 Action Pack

3 How do we begin? 1. Make your notebooks. You will need to purchase two 3-ring-binders, one for mom and one for daughter. If desired, purchase (or find) black 3-ring-binders with clear pockets on the front. Make 2 copies of our DARING DAUGHTERS cover and insert into each notebook. 1 notebook for MOM 1 notebook for (each) DAUGHTER Each week, you will be able to download DARING DAUGHTER Weekly Action Packs to print, one for mom and one for daughter (this week, we have just this one introduction pack, so PRINT 2 copies of these 12 pages). Before each week s session, print your ACTION PACK, punch holes in these pages, and insert in your binders. A few more things to gather together: You will need extra NOTEBOOK PAPER (for writing answers to our mentoring questions and for jotting notes and thoughts), a good PEN and a HIGHLIGHTER for each of you, and a 3-hole puncher. For fun, perhaps you would like to prepare or purchase something to enjoy during this time together (such as tea in special tea-cups, hot chocolate or coffee in mugs, or a special snack). 3 Week 1 Action Pack

4 2. Establish specific MOTHER-DAUGHTER MENTORING TIMES for you to work together on this E-course. Ideally, you should establish at least 3 specific times each week: One time early in the week to listen to your weekly E-Course audio and to talk through your ACTION PACK questions. One time in the middle of the week to have a quiet time with the Lord. Work independently on your weekly ACTION PACK questions. A third time (Fridays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Pacific Time, beginning Sept. 21 st ) to call-in together to our weekly LIVE Daring Daughter mentoring session. (Note: if you are unable to call in at our scheduled time, these weekly motherdaughter mentoring sessions will also be available afterwards as mp3 audios). Begin each week by printing out your weekly ACTION PACKS for both mother and daughter. Punch holes in these papers and put them in your notebooks. Early in the week (on Monday or Tuesday), listen to the weekly Daring Daughter E-Course AUDIO (each about 1 hour long). You can download this mp3 audio to listen on-the-go, or you can listen online. The majority of these weekly E-Course audios will be recorded interviews with a special Daring Daughter guest. These real-life ladies have fascinating perspectives and experiences that will bless you and challenge you. If at all possible, listen to these audios together. After you listen to each week s E-Course Audio, sit down together and talk through that week s ACTION PACK. Make your mentoring time fun by sharing hot chocolate, tea, or coffee and/or a special snack. Discuss the audio and the weekly theme, including sharing how you agree (or disagree) with the opinions shared. Look up the Bible verses and read them together. Complete your mentoring time by praying together as mother and daughter. Pray about that week s theme and pray for each other. 4 Week 1 Action Pack

5 During the week, take some quiet time to work independently to brainstorm and to write down answers to your weekly ACTION PACK questions. As mother and daughter, talk together offand-on about your questions and thoughts as you go about your regular schedule. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 6:5-8) Then on Friday, call in together (or listen online) for our LIVE Daring Daughters mentoring sessions. You might want to set your phone on a SPEAKER-PHONE setting, so you can listen together in the same room. Throughout these LIVE sessions, we will have questions to discuss together and opportunities to respond to the lesson by asking questions or by sharing thoughts. 7 Week 1 - ACTION PACK: Decisions & Discipleship Overview of our Daring Daughters E-Course What is a Daring Daughter? In the Great Commission (in Matthew 28:19), Jesus commanded us to Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations. As a Daring Daughter, we re girls who DARE to obey God. We re disciples of Jesus Christ who love God and love others. We re not pampered princesses; we re disciplined daughters who will advance the kingdom of God. In this week s audio lesson, we ll look at the theme of Daring Daughters and the vision for a mother-daughter mentoring course along with the overview of this 12-week course. In this lesson, will also going to look at the importance of making godly decisions for the future. Key verses for Daring Daughters: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for skillful wailing women, that they may come. Let them make hast and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run with tears, and our eyelids gush with water... Older women are called to train the younger women. As moms and daughters, we know each other and love each other. We will be in relationship throughout our entire life. It s a relationship worth investing in. Daughters have dreams, energy, and fresh ideas. Moms have wisdom, experience, and perspective. Together, we can help each other fulfill God s purposes. 10 How to Know God s Will from George Muller ( ) George Muller was a minister from Bristol, England who cared for over 10,000 orphan children, without asking for money. With childlike faith, he prayed and trusted God, and as a result, he witnessed many tremendous answers to prayer and thousands of miracles. Here is his advice on making decisions in accordance to God s will: 1) I seek to get my heart into such a state that it has no will of its own in a given matter. When we are ready to do the Lord's will whatever it may be nine-tenths of the difficulties are overcome. 2) Having done this, I do not leave the result to feeling or simple impression. If I do so, I make myself liable to great delusions. 3) I seek the will of the Spirit of God through, or in connection with, God's Word. The Spirit and the Word must be combined. If I look to the Spirit alone without the Word, I lay myself open to great delusions also. If the Holy Spirit guides us, He will do it according to the Scriptures, never contrary to them. 4) Next I take into account providential circumstances. These often plainly indicate God's will in connection with His Word and Spirit. 5) I ask God in prayer to reveal His will to me. 6) Thus, through prayer, the study of the Word and reflection, I come to a deliberate judgment according to the best of my ability and knowledge. If my mind is thus at peace and continues so after two or three more petitions, I proceed accordingly. I have found this method always effective in trivial or important issues. Mary Groves Müller ( ): Married George Müller October 7, Faithful wife and co-worker in establishing orphanage houses in Bristol, England. Their lives together were characterized by prayer and faith and a mutual self-denial for the cause of Christ. They had two children, a daughter, Lydia, born in 1832 and a son, Elijah born in 1834, who died at 15 months. Mary died February 6, Susannah Grace Sangar Müller ( ): Second wife of George Müller. They were married November 30, She continued with the ongoing work of the orphanages and assisted in making the ministry known elsewhere. Beginning in 1875 they began a series of tours that lasted for seventeen years and took them to forty-two countries. Evangelistic in nature, these tours also raised money for the orphanages and the caring of thousands of children. From Wholesome Words: Week 1 Action Pack

13 What are 5 goals we can work on together over these 12 weeks? Consider different areas of life: a spiritual goal (Bible reading, prayer, memory, church), an educational goal (perhaps reading a number of books or establishing a more-disciplined school day), a physical fitness or health goal (getting to a more-healthy weight zone or establishing an exercise plan), a fun goal to strengthen your mother-daughter relationship (even doing this E-Course together!), and a ministry/outreach idea. In setting GOALS, be sure to make SMART goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant (goals that matter) and Time-sensitive (with a target date).
