1 8 SIMPLE HABITS YOU CAN START RIGHT NOW TO REVIVE YOUR FAITH Let me start by saying we live in a crazy world where it is easy to begin to lose faith and allow fear to seep into our lives. We may question God s faithfulness, asking where are you God? Why are you allowing this to happen? Let me tell you you are not alone! It is important that we learn to connect with God every day, so that our faith can grow! You see I believe you don t have to have a perfect life to have an intimate relationship with a perfect God! Wondering what God is up to all the time can create a faith gap! In order for us to feel free to come near to God we need to trust Him. Trust who he is; trust what He s up to in our lives, trust that He is a good God with our best interest in mind...faith. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Trusting God and having faith, is an ongoing process? It isn t delivered once and then that s it. Sometimes we want proof proof that God is trustworthy! Then we can have faith that He will take care of us. The catch We can never know if God IS trustworthy and faithful if we don t first trust Him. 2 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 I m here to tell you, you CAN increase your faith and I ll help you get past that fear and doubt, with a little encouragement and some simple habits that will help you revive your faith! Before you know it, you will find your faith growing once again and peace will reign in your heart! It s good to know that there really ARE some simple things we can do to increase our faith. By putting ourselves in a position to receive faith...our faith will grow. Faith Habit 1: Choose Faith ~ Ok well that sounds like a no-brainer doesn t it!? Yet this choice must come from the heart and not merely from the head. We make choices every single day don t we? All day long right? What to buy, what to have for dinner, what to wear, what to spend our money on. Choosing to have faith in God is yet another one of those choices. It s time to do some soul searching my friend. Do you believe what God says in His word? Or don t you? You will have a hard time having Faith in God if you don t believe what His living word says about who He is. Be honest with yourself about this! Short version story: Once long ago I was super mad at God I mean REALLY MAD! 3 Did I REALLY BELIEVE that God is who He says He is or not? I made a choice: Yes, I believed, my faith increased immediately Make your choice it WILL increase your faith today! Faith Habit 2 Simply Ask God to Increase Your Faith ~ Sometimes we forget to ask for the simplest of things. God is not shocked when we are not super heroes of faith! He KNOWS how hard having faith is sometimes. Even the Disciples that walked with Jesus everyday said this: The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" Luke 17:5 What does that look like? Simply go ahead and ask! God is just waiting. Faith Habit 3 Listen to Worship Music ~ There is SO MUCH Christian music these days. Find worship music that has lyrics that actually are speaking to God. That proclaim His faithfulness! Worshiping God is one of the most awesome ways to increase your faith! I suggest you play worship music whenever possible. Look for your local Christian Music Station. Watch Christian music videos. If you can afford it download a few of your favorite Christian music artists and listen while working around the house, getting exercise etc. New to Christian Music? 4 Faith Habit 4 Stop Looking to the World for Your Faith ~ Let s face it, the walk of faith is not an easy one, but its even harder if we are looking all around us for our faith. We must keep our eyes focused on the one that gives us strength, hope and peace Not to people or groups of people, places or things. Our hope and faith must come from God alone or the disappointments that we meet with people and material things will absorb us and our faith will begin to fade because of unmet expectations. God s faithfulness and love will never fail us: Deuteronomy 7:9 says Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments." Trust the One who knows you better than anyone, knows your situation, your heart, your struggles. Faith Habit 5 Read Short Christian Biographies ~ I could kind of go on and on about the most wonderful encouragement and faith building that reading great biographies of faith can bring! Take some time and read a little each day. Not a big reader? Read some of the biographies that are written with large print or for younger readers. As a matter of fact if you have kids read to them! 5 Faith Habit 6 Memorize 2 Short Scriptures a week ~ There is nothing more faith building than memorizing a couple of short scriptures a week. However, don t just memorize them in your head take them to your heart. Then got to Faith Habit 7 ~ Use your favorite scriptures or use the printable I ve included. Faith Habit 7 Write it all Down ~ Yes my friend, write down the scriptures. Find a journal of some kind, a notebook, composition book, a fancy journal it doesn t matter. Just something you can write scriptures in and record what they mean to you. How they apply to situations in your life right now. The reason we write things down is to remember them. You can look back on what you were growing through and see that YES God was faithful. I could write a book about journaling don t get me started. For now simply memorize and write the scriptures. Faith Habit 8 Speak Words of Faith Affirmation In other words, be positive! Are you a negative type person? Mostly seeing your glass half empty instead of half full? Practice more positivity in your life, even if you don t FEEL it. Watch the words that come out of your mouth, because it s directly attached to the heart. Speak faith rather than non-faith things. For example Hey I KNOW God is going to pull through for me because He loves me! Rather than God doesn t care about me and my situation. Shari Faith Filled Food for Moms Page 5
