1 THE SPIRITUAL MULTIPLICATION PROCESS Purpose: to help you develop a ministry of spiritual multiplication. Objectives: This session will help you to Decide where your ministry is and determine actions to move the multiplication process to the next step. 2. Use the "Overview of a Spiritual Multiplication" chart 3. Feel more comfortable and confident in evaluating disciples ministries and knowing what to do to help them move into multiplication. Key Verse: 2 Timothy 2:2 Note to instructor: Bring examples of the materials mentioned ( JESUS Video, surveys, Transferable Concept #1, Gospel tracts, Jesus and the Intellectual, etc. I. Introduction. In the lesson Building Spiritual Movements, we looked at the essential ingredients and activities needed to build a movement. The essential ingredients below are necessary for a movement to take place. The activities are used in order to see the movement take place. The ingredients reflect the philosophy behind the activities. Seven Essential Ingredients Necessary to Build a Movement A. A common goal: The Great Commission. B. A common strategy: expose, win, build, train, and send. C. A common method: initiative evangelism and spiritual multiplication. D. Common tools and materials. E. A common power: the Holy Spirit. F. Increasing commitment to the goal (by developing personal convictions). G. Critical Mass: the amount of committed people needed to pursue it s goals. Seven Essential Ongoing Activities Necessary to Build a Movement A. Mobilize concerted prayer. B. Sow broadly and reap. C. Filter out ripe fruit. D. Build multiplying disciples. E. Build personal conviction. F. Establish credibility. G. Develop leadership. In this lesson, we are going to look at the critical activities. Our calling to a ministry of multiplication involves our participation in sharing the good news with everyone who will listen 1
2 and giving those who respond to the gospel an opportunity for follow-up, ministry training, and discipleship so as to bring them to effective service in fulfilling their part in the Great Commission. There are four necessary actions for accomplishing this strategy: expose, win, build, and send. II. Step One: Expose. A. What we do: Sow broadly and use filters to find ripe fruit. B. Why we do it: To identify interested people, to pinpoint where the Holy Spirit is working, and to give everyone an opportunity to hear the Gospel. Note to instructor: Option one: Break the class into small groups. Give each group the assignment of coming up with additional Primary Methods and Primary Resources for one of the actions. After about 7 minutes, have them report to the class what they came up with. See if the class had any other suggestions for that particular action. Option two: Instead of breaking them into groups to discuss additional Primary Methods and Primary Resources, have the whole class share the ideas they came up with for each of the actions. C. Primary methods: 1. Pre-evangelistic events e.g. classroom speaking, team meetings, felt need talks 2. Inquirers Studies, Cell groups, Coffee Houses 3. Advertising Campaign (pre-evangelistic literature, radio, bill board, TV, etc) 4. Broad sowing of evangelistic literature. 5. Surveys. 6. Presentation of Christian perspectives in a Forum environment by an expert 7. Clinics and Seminars, athletic, professional 8. Publicity for evangelistic presentations. 9. Large scale evangelistic events (such as the "Jesus" Film, etc.) 10. Any others methods you can think of: D. Primary resources: 1. Surveys (i.e. spiritual interest, leadership, community). 2. Four Spiritual Laws and other Gospel tracts. 3. Evangelistic literature: "Jesus and the Intellectual"; "Who is this Jesus? etc. 4. The "JESUS" film. 5. Apologetic materials and speakers 6. Advertising Materials 7. InterActa (in U.S.) or other inquirer s Study Materials 8. Classroom speaking notebook, Communication Seminar 9. Christian Professionals 10. Books covering Christian Perspectives on Current Issues 11. Any additional resources you can think of: 2
3 III. Step Two: Win A. What we do: Take the initiative to offer a clear, culturally relevant presentation of the Gospel to all who will listen. We place a special emphasis on clarifying the necessity of personal faith for salvation and asking for a decision. B. Why we do it: To bring as many people as possible into the kingdom of God as soon as possible. C. Primary methods: 1. One-on-one personal contact. 2. Large and small group evangelism. 3. Evangelistic studies. 4. Any others methods you can think of: D. Primary resources: 1. The. 2. Four Spiritual Laws (and other proven evangelistic tracts) 3. The "Jesus" Film. 4. Transferable Concept #1 (How To Be Sure You're a Christian). 5. AIA, Andre Kole, Josh McDowell, etc. 6. Any additional resources you can think of: IV. Step Three: Build A. Follow-up 1. What we do: Teach basic biblical truth concerning assurance of forgiveness, growth and the Holy Spirit. We want to establish the new Christians' confidence in the Scripture as the basis of their faith, begin building a friendship with them and introduce them to God's desire that all Christians communicate their faith with others. 2. Why we do it: To lay a foundation for healthy Christian growth and ministry involvement. a. One-on-one follow-up. b. Small group discipleship. c. involvement. d. Informal relating. e. Any others methods you can think of: 3

Develop Spirit-Filled Disciples 1. What we do: Build people in the biblical principles of the Spirit-filled life. 2. Why we do it: To help Christians develop a consistent walk with the Lord (moving from spiritual child to adult) and lay the foundation for fruitful ministry. a. One-on-one personal contact. b. Discipleship group. c. Involvement in a local church. d. Involvement in the work of the ministry. e. Conferences, seminars, retreats and projects. f. Any others methods you can think of: a. The. b. Holy Spirit booklet. c. Small group resources. d. Transferable Concepts e. InterActa, Ten Basic Steps, other Study materials that focus on personal growth and service f. LTC curriculum Top 30. g. Any additional resources you can think of: C. Develop Disciples for Basic Ministry 1.
