3 Most merciful God Father of our Lord Jesus Christ we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Almighty God who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in life eternal through Jesus Christ our Lord. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading Ezekiel 2:1-5 The Lord said to me: O mortal, stand up on your feet, and I will speak with you. And when he spoke to me, a spirit entered into me and set me on my feet; and I heard him speaking to me. He said to me, Mortal, I am sending you to the people of Israel, to a nation of rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have transgressed against me to this very day. The descendants are impudent and stubborn. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord God. Whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house), they shall know that there has been a prophet among them. May your word live in us. And bear much fruit to your glory. To you I lift up my eyes,! to you that are en throned in the heavens. Psalm 123 As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master;! or the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes wait upon the Lord our God,! until he have mercy up on us. 5 Second Reading 2 Corinthians 12:2-10 I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. And I know that such a person whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat. On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. But if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I will be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think better of me than what is seen in me or heard from me, even considering the exceptional character of the revelations. Therefore, to keep me from being too elated, a thorn was given to me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, but he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. May your word live in us. And also with you Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us? And they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, Prophets are not without honour, except in their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house. And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching. He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them. So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. 6

7 Sermon The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the Faithful In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father. 7

8 Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith. Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Strengthen Christopher our bishop and all your Church in the service of Christ, that those who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world. Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Bless and guide Elizabeth our Queen; give wisdom to all in authority; and direct this and every nation in the ways of justice and of peace; that we may honour one another, and seek the common good. Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Give grace to us, our families and friends, and to all our neighbours, that we may serve Christ in one another, and love as he loves us. Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit; give them courage and hope in their troubles; and bring them the joy of your salvation. Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Hear us as we remember those who have died in the faith of Christ; according to your promises grant us with them a share in your eternal kingdom. Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Rejoicing in the fellowship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Anne and of all your saints, we commend ourselves and the whole creation to your unfailing love. 9 The Peace We are all one in Christ Jesus. We belong to him by faith, heirs of the promise of the Spirit of peace. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace. All exchange a sign of peace. THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT Preparation of the Altar During the hymn there will be a collection for those who do not give by standing order. The gifts of the people are gathered and presented. The altar is prepared and bread and wine are placed upon it. Offertory Hymn We have a gospel to proclaim, Good news for men in all the earth; The gospel of a Saviour's name: We sing his glory, tell his worth. Tell of his birth at Bethlehem, Not in a royal house or hall, But in a stable dark and dim, The Word made flesh, a light for all. Tell of his death at Calvary, Hated by those he came to save, In lonely suffering on the Cross; For all he loved, his life he gave. Tell of that glorious Easter morn: Empty the tomb, for he was free: He broke the power of death and hell That we might share his victory. Father, we give you thanks and praise through your beloved Son Jesus Christ, your living Word, through whom you have created all things; who was sent by you in your great goodness to be our Saviour. By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh; as your Son, born of the blessed Virgin, he lived on earth and went about among us; and revealed the resurrection by rising to new life; so he fulfilled your will and won for you a holy people. Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and wine may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. 10

11 Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died: Christ is risen: Christ will come again. And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption. As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, we bring before you this bread and this cup and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Anne our patron and all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, from every evil, and grant us peace in our day. In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles: I leave you peace, my peace I give you. 12 Church, and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom where you live for ever and ever. Amen. Breaking of the Bread We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. The priest says the invitation to communion. Giving of Communion This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, blessed are they who are called to his supper. Lord I am not worthy to receive you but only say the word and I shall be healed. Agnus Dei Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Communicant members of other denominations are welcome to receive Holy Communion at this service, or to come forward to receive a blessing. After all have received Corporate silence is kept. 15 Church Heating update the new boilers are now installed in the crypt, and this week work begins in church replacing the Victorian cast iron pipes with new efficient heating elements. Boundary Wall update you will have noticed that the West end boundary wall has been restored and looks magnificent the next stage of restoration will begin later on in the summer.
