2 COACH S M E S S A G E In 2016, FCA has embraced the command to be strong and courageous! as given in Joshua 1:9. God has called us to RISE in our walk with Him. He gives the strength and courage that we need each day. As we ve risen, God has transformed thousands of lives around the globe through the influence of coaches and athletes. We give thanks as we reflect on His faithfulness to the ministry of FCA. After twelve life-changing years, God made it clear to my wife, Chris, and I that our season leading FCA was coming to an end this year. We stand in awe of all that God has done during our time with the ministry. As FCA ministered to coaches and athletes in 2016, we celebrated 55,869 total commitments to Jesus Christ! The Automatic Monthly Partner (AMP) program reached a record $31 million in revenue, a 16.9% increase over the prior year and made up 25% of FCA s total donors. More than 150,000 people visited an FCA-related website every month in 2016 to learn about the ministry, download free resources and connect with ministry in their area. Ministry Programs & Resources ROB THOMAS Executive Vice President Technology Integrity Serving Teamwork Excellence FCA distributed 170,450 Bibles worldwide. FCA has 14 different Bibles and released Levantate (e-book), the Rise Spanish Handbook and the first-ever Russian language Coach s Bible. FCA continued to grow Bible engagement efforts with our partnership with YouVersion Bible reading app. There are currently 15 reading plans, with plans now offered in Ukrainian and Chinese. Over 49,000 people have completed an FCA Bible reading plan since As a faith-funded ministry, we give thanks to the Lord for His provision. FCA achieved a record year of $120 million in revenue. FCA updated its Coach s Bible and coach s prayer resources to equip and encourage coaches to strengthen their faith and understand their coaching as a calling. FCA also released new resources: Victory 365, Core Values Playbooks and FCA Virtuous Woman: Excellence, a Bible study for female competitors. FCA s Hall of Champions honored 2016 inductees Leah O Brien Amico, Olympic softball player; late Dale Haralson, FCA volunteer; Bill Hawkins, high school coach; late Neil Marthedal, FCA volunteer; and late Jon Randles, chaplain. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes now has ten consecutive 4-Star top ratings from Charity Navigator, America s largest organization rating the fiscal management of charities. 4 CO ACH ES There s no telling what could happen when a coach s heart sets on fire for Christ. As one of the major influencers around the world, coaches have the ability to alter lives for better or worse, and we ve made it a priority to pour into our coaches and see them transformed and passionate about the sphere of influence where God has placed them. When coaches become followers of Jesus Christ, their character, relationships and approach to coaching authentically pours from the way they act, live and speak. FCA walks them through this journey, providing coaches Huddles and conventions, in-depth training with redesigned 3Dimensional Coaching, resources and retreats. This builds up the heart and energy in and out of coaching so they can be at their best to most effectively shepherd teams, athletes and their staff. When one coach brought a few of his athletes to an FCA Camp, he never fathomed how it would be his heart that turned inside out. While wanting the best for his athletes physically and spiritually, during worship nights and conversations with fellow coaches, he caught the love of Jesus and accepted Him as Lord. Returning home, he dove into a coaches study and got involved in a local Huddle, starting a local wrestling club for athletes to hone their craft with extra practice sessions, while encouraging them with the gospel and small devotionals. The next year, he brought his entire team back to camp. Many lives are impacted for Christ because of one coach who caught fire for God through FCA. My mission is to share His goodness with anyone who will listen and to help get as many of these kids in heaven as I possibly can. Some of these kids are pretty poor, and a lot of them don t have much family interaction. Some have no moms and some have no dads, and I m the best man in a lot of their lives. But they have me and Jesus Christ, and together we re all going to do amazing things. -COACH What I like about coaching is the impact I m able to have on my players. The fun and comforting atmosphere of sport camps provides chances for deep discussion and opportunities for campers and coaches to hear the gospel. Several countries put on their first camps, including South Korea, Uganda and Trinidad and Tobago. FCA U.S. and Global Regions have connected to send teams and leaders for sports ministry opportunities, deeper training and ministry development. 3D I M E N S I O N A L COAC H I NG 3Dimensional Coaching has surged in coaches ministry, sharpening leadership focus on coaches as key leaders poised for best impact. FCA established two Coaches Ministry Academies in Europe and East Asia to develop 3Dimensional Coaching workshops. FCA International leaders hosted 83 workshops in 27 countries to reach over 3,000 coaches. Ukraine has moved its mission to impact 80,000 coaches for the gospel. In India, INTER NAT I O N A L there is strategic vision for influencing and equipping leaders. From grass fields to international stadiums, FCA continues to expand by building partnerships. RES O U RCES FCA International has also continued to develop tools and meet specific needs of published resources. This year, FCA International developed a Japanese Baseball Bible, Chinese Sports Devotional Bible and Thai Sports New Testament for our East Asia leaders to distribute. The first Athlete s Handbook was created in Spanish to support our fast growing ministry in the Latin America Global Region. HUDDLES EXPANDING RAPIDLY AROUND THE WORLD, FCA INTERNATIONAL IS NOW SERVING IN 60 COUNTRIES WITH 133 FCA INTERNATIONAL LEADERS AND FCA International s vision is to cultivate growth and leadership within the sports sphere through vibrant relationship and discipleship of coaches and athletes. Huddles are the foundation to serve coaches. COUNTLESS VOLUNTEERS WHO SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST TO ALL CORNERS OF THE GLOBE. FCA supports initiatives and partnerships that provide opportunities for leaders in sports ministries within their own countries to train, resource and mobilize their ministries. In 2016, FCA International touched thousands of lives, including 5,542 coaches and athletes who indicated decisions for Christ. Camp growth has exploded internationally with 284 camps reaching 34,005 campers in 45 countries. YET THROUGH ALL THESE AVENUES OF FCA, HERE S THE HEART OF IT: That's 55,869 coaches and athletes on record surrendering their lives and their sports to Jesus Christ through an FCA activity. How many more might there be who silently came home from an event and knelt at the foot of their bed to talk to Jesus? The halls of heaven are full with celebration through the grace of God and His goodness to this ministry, and we rejoice that through over 17,000 Huddles, confidence in Christ is rising and people are banding together to push out into their corners of the world and bring life to the love of Jesus. The foundation from which we build has been firmly laid by Les and Chris Steckel, who have guided this ministry through prayer, counsel and the leading of the Spirit to places once thought unimaginable.
