Paul s list suggests the eagerness of each one to use his gift in public worship. A hymn by a member, and a lesson which would be some exposition of a text from the scriptures. Tongues were used publicly only if someone present could interpret. Paul discussed the order of church leadership and the subordinate status of women in the economy of church leadership. Paul was concerned that emancipated Christian women would create a scandal by flouting social conventions of the day. Women had to be wise in using their newly-given liberty in Christ and is protesting against the disturbance of services by chatter. (from the New Bible Commentary)

The latter uses the name for God which speaks of his might whereas in Psalm 14 the covenant/redemptive name is chiefly used. Psalm 14 has in view the suffering of those who have their hope in the LORD and expresses assurance of deliverance. God s people still suffer, they still experience deliverances (Psalm 53:5-6 provides an illustration of such) and they will yet find complete redemption in the return of Christ from his heavenly Zion - the true throne of David. 10 The Session Has Scheduled the Sacrament of Holy Communion A Means of Grace to be observed on Sunday Morning March 19, 2017 The scriptures warn us to be diligent in making preparation before the celebration of Communion. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, and then so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 1 Cor. 11:27-29 In A Sacramental Catechism by John Williamson ( ), he asks: What sort of preparation is it that God requires of such that come to His table? It is not a slack or careless preparation to be done in a hasty and superficial manner, as some do who never set about it till Saturday or the Lord s day morning before they commune. No, it must be timely and deliberately, conscientious and impartial, diligent and fervent in the use of all appointed means, depending upon God for the gracious preparation of the heart according to His promise Ps. 10:17; Prov. 16:1 The Westminster Larger Catechism (Question 171) gives a wonderful and clear explanation of how we ought to prepare for the observation of this covenantal meal: They that receive the sacrament of the Lord s Supper are, before they come, to prepare themselves there unto, by examining themselves of their being in Christ, of their sins and wants; of the truth and measure of their knowledge, faith, repentance; love to God and the brethren, charity to all men, forgiving those that have done them wrong; of their desires after Christ, and of their new obedience, and by renewing the exercise of these graces, by serious meditation and fervent prayer. Carefully consider these before your participation: Reflection on the depth of your love for Christ and the brethren. Discernment of your own understanding of the Supper. Meditation on Christ s death and suffering. Feeding on Him in faith. Desire for Christ
