Sport is the great universal language of our time. Great sporting events excite and inspire us. Sports persons are often heroes and role models locally, nationally and internationally. Increasingly churches and agencies understand the potential of sporting events as a bridge of ministry to children, teenagers, men, women entire families and for working in partnership resulting in sustainable outcomes. The TUG Booklet is designed to help you plan for any sports event that attracts the attention of people where you live. This can be a World Championship that is hosted in a City, a Global Sports Event that is broadcasted worldwide, a Regional Tournament your country is a part off or simply a football Championship between two remote villages anywhere in the world. The focus of this TUG Booklet: Overview Strategies Resources Is for every village, town, city and country team to understand sports event ministry and encourage some form of TUG ministry around the football world cup. To introduce 10 key programs that can be carried during football event ministries not only during the football world cup but also other local football competitions. To introduce 3 partner resources that have been produce for TUG ministries around the world cup and to generate interest for possible opportunities in your country. Note: In this booklet Sports Events will refer to any sports events at Village, Town, City, National or Regional Level. Major Sports Events will refertothe4 Global Sporting events i.e. Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, The Rugby World Cup and Cricket World Cup.

History of Sports Event Ministry Sports event ministry has taken place since the 1960 s in a wide variety of global, regional, national and local sports events. Serving athletes during sports events began in the 1980 s as well as international agency partnering to provide high quality resources. In the 1990 s the awareness of churches to serve the population of the host community during sports events expanded. In 2005 we learned how training and outreach could take place during the time frame of sports events. In 2007 we learned that churches in host locations could begin trainings and strategies well before an event with more sustainable ministry and legacy outcomes resulting. Sports Event Streams There are two possibilities for sports event ministry: MSEHP (Host Location) Involves ministry or activities that take place in and around a host location. MSEP (Partner Location) Involves any ministry or activities that take place in another country/city/village, outside of the host location during a major or regional sporting event.

The Sports Event Overview Sports Event ministry is the utilization of a Sporting Event to present the Gospel and love of Christ to athletes and their families, officials and games organizers, visitors and local community, it is a relational network of churches, ministries and agencies and should be served by a team of facilitators. The sports event vision is for cities to be transformed by the Gospel prior, during and following the sports event in a host location or in a Partner location during a major sporting event. The mission is to empower sports people (athletes) and the body of Christ, to serve through the sport events strategies and resources. Every sports event small or large in size is an opportunity to begin or expand a local sports Team and generate momentum for one or many trainings and strategies. Your local sports Team is responsible to determine which trainings and strategies are sustainable and wise based on the interests, passions and state of sports ministry developments in your city, town or village Goals for the MSE Team Cast vision to churches in your village, town or city that host location sports events are sustainable ministry opportunities. Facilitate the partnering and empowering of churches, local athletes and agencies helping each accomplish their mission through partnerships following, prior to and during sports events. Encourage the strategic development of sustainable strategies. Provide wisdom for the development of sports themes around local sports events to unify the body of Christ in outreach. Audience There are three main audiences for the Sports Event ministry which includes serving the athletes when possible with chaplaincy, provide churches training and appropriate strategies to serve all residents and visitors. The other audience for sports event ministry may include athlete families, officials, coaches, media and spectators. Primary Outcomes Initiate and Grow a Sports Team from the churches in the Host location and Sports Teams from the churches in each nearby cities, towns and villages. The Sports Team will play the key role in sustaining trainings and sport partnering plans. The Sports Team should be committed toward sustainable partnerships between churches in each community. Make your goals and outcomes - Specific ǀ Measurable ǀ Achievable ǀ Relevant ǀ Time-bounded

The Ultimate Goal The Football World Cup and other major regional football championships excite and are always important to the entire host country and partnering countries. These football events have the ability to impact communities and provide a platform for churches and agencies to work in partnership and creating on-going sustainable outcomes. The theme The Ultimate Goal (TUG) was developed for ministry around the Football World Cup or other Football championships around the world. There are hundreds of such city and country football events in addition to the global and regional events listed. Reference Verse: Philippians 3:14 The core message of the TUG theme "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Jesus Christ. Scoring a goal on the pitch is great but The Ultimate Goal to score in life is accepting Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. Below are several of the hundreds of football championships. International Competitions FIFA World Cup, Beach Soccer World Cup, Futsal World Cup, Confederations Cup, FIFA Women s World Cup, etc. Regional Competitions - All African Soccer Championships, Asian Soccer Championships, European Football Championships, South American Soccer Championships, Oceania Football Confederations Cup, etc. TUG Guidelines The term The Ultimate Goal or TUG Logo and theme, when translated to similar names in other languages are not to be used as the name or theme for any ministry location. The TUG logo and theme are only to be used on approved resources for city, national, regional and global Football/Soccer competitions, to help everyone know those resources are part of these major sports event ministries. This is being done to try and be careful to protect any churches and individuals doing ministry using those resources in dangerous and highly restricted locations. Please inform others who may not be aware of this important policy.

Sustainable Long-lasting Strategies The best way to look at a major event is to see it as a catalyst to begin long term sustainable discipling ministry to occur. Following is a list of excellent strategies used across the world: Chaplaincy Church Sports Leagues Serving athletes and their families, governing officials and support staff in all levels of sport. Sports leagues that including whole life skill development for the participants. Sport Academy Sports Festivals Community Cup Training leaders to effectively serve all levels of the sports community. Churches in a community working together providing sports, games and innovative ways to reach out to all ages. Inviting immigrant group to take in a disciple making competition. Ubabalo KidsGames TeenGames EdgeGames FamilyGames More than Gold (MTG) The Ultimate Goal (TUG) Small and Big Screen Viewing Sports skills for each sport used to teach life skills with a biblical application. Children and families in churches inviting their friends to be part of a bible based program including games, sports, values, compassion and experiential education. Teens in churches inviting their friends to be part of a bible based program including games, sports, values, compassion and experiential education. Singles on college campuses or in churches inviting their friends to be part of a bible based program including games, sports, values, compassion and experiential education. Families in churches inviting their friends to be part of a bible based program including games, sports, values, compassion and experiential education. 8 1. Church Services The program is designed to give suggestions, outlines, resources and information for sports-theme service that can be adapted to a local church context. Create Church sports-theme service during the Sundays of major events. Learn how to include prayer, sports-based sermons, create a sports theme environment celebrating the diversity of Christian faith. Suggestions should be adapted to own church environment, creative way to achieve final goal, namely celebrate the diversity in the Christian faith when planning a Major Event. Objectives Church being the body of Christ, it must show the world God s heart to mankind, recognizing that the world is diverse with different cultures, creeds, traditions, skin colors, values and practices. Church must use mediums of communications that transcend religious, cultural, and geographical barriers to penetrate all these barriers with the Message of love and forgiveness which God through Jesus has communicated to the world. Target Audience Church members having a better appreciate for sports ministry and opportunity for members to invite friend and guests. Sport is a universal language. Church must take this opportunity to show, through sport the relevance of Christ to as many people as possible. It must be sensitive to others values and beliefs and promote common values rather than differences following the example of Jesus communication to non-believers as followed the apostle Paul. Following are 9 practical suggestions you could try: Create the basic outline for the sermon using Scriptures. Have available resource table in the foyer of the church with tracts, books or booklets of the faith of the athletes. Give members appropriate sport ministry resources to share with others. Have a sports prayer focus. Get creative people together to brainstorm new and inventive ways of visually making the service enjoyable and relax. Church hosts big screen parties for the opening or closing ceremonies or any other of the evenings or weekend days. Sermon from Scripture emphasizing values relating to sports and competition. Organization of drama, sketch on a sporting theme. Invite people on different nights for food or snacks. Practical ways to organize the event i.e. printed invitations, arrangements for local shops, schools, sports clubs, display posters, usage of video, power point, prayer, prepare resource packs, decoration of the venue e.g. Sport gear, flags, sport posters and other displays with appropriate Motto.

Equipment/Resources Needed: People passionate about sports. These are those with special interests and gifts in particular areas of the overall plan for the Church. These are some of the Scriptures and themes for Soccer Sunday Service sermons. There are 5 Sundays covering the World Cup: Philippians 3:14 I Corinthians 9:24-27 Ephesians 6:10-20 Galatians 6:9 I Timothy 4:7-8 I Timothy 6:11-12 II Timothy 2:5 The Ultimate Goal Run to Win The Right Equipment Do Not Become Weary Training Fight the Good Fight The Victory Crown 1 Peter 1:7 More Than Gold 1 Peter 1:13-16 Prepare for Action 1 John 5:4b Victory that Overcomes Creative ideas that churches have used: Some churches in their TUG Soccer Sunday's designed false front doors to resemble the entrance to famous soccer stadiums in their country or other countries and decorated other parts of the church with soccer and sports gear. Other churches TUG Soccer Sunday's provided food that was from the culture of one of the teams in those days matches. In other churches Soccer Sunday's the pastor wore the jersey of their favorite soccer team - other churches all the elders or deacons wore different jerseys of their favorite national teams or favorite World Cup team - other churches asked everyone attending to wear the colors of their national team if they were one of the final 32 - others asked everyone to wear the colors of one of the teams playing that day - other churches asked everyone to wear socks that were the color of their favorite team etc. etc. etc. Churches across the world included in their TUG services prayer for the players and officials. Printing of a soccer player s testimony for the guests and members. Can be local, national players and/or international players. Opportunity to use the Soccer Sunday's to introduce the idea of ongoing sports ministry for the church. Many Soccer Sunday Services included a youth soccer player in the church or a committed soccer player on a local team sharing their testimony. Many Soccer Sunday Services included recruiting volunteers to serve KidsGames and TeenGames. When the KidsGames and TeenGames had been completed prior to the World Cup Sunday's the youth in the KG and TG were acknowledged and parents of the youth were treated as special guests For 2010 Soccer Sunday's Services many plan to promote Ubabalo/Coaching for Life and recruiting Ubabalo/Coaching for Life coaches. Some Soccer Sunday Services included a time to honor soccer coaches and officials from the neighborhood or city. Normally the Soccer Sunday Churches printed invitation cards and arrange for these to be handed out in local shops, schools, business and sports clubs, display posters and some even placed an ad in the local newspaper. Each Soccer Sunday the pastors would often present a sports-based sermon or read Scriptures with a sports theme. Many Soccer Sunday Services had youth or drama groups perform a short sketch on soccer themes.

2. Public Sports Screens & Community Sports Festivals Watching sport on TV is great fun but there is nothing quite like getting together to watch a major event in a community setting. Public sports screens may incorporate a festival atmosphere and help the church to move to the centre of the community and provide an opportunity for Christians to live and share their faith. These events can be done on either small scale (in your local church or community center) or a large scale (in an outdoor community venue). If you are incorporating a community type festival with the public sports screens, try to offer everything for free and make everything fun! Offer popular activities such as face painting, balloon sculpturing, and jumping castles. Objectives Build bridges between the community and the church through creating a free, family-friendly atmosphere Through building the open crowd we are able to create opportunities for sharing the love of Christ. Develop partnerships between local churches and ministries. Transforming the community through the Church running events that bring the community together. Target Audience: The target demographics for this event are all families in the community in which the event is to take place. We want to have different events around the public sports screens to engage the population that attends the event. This will allow more people to attend each year, if you make it an annual event. This is a very simple but yet great way to engage the community. Kids and families find this event to be a lot of fun as they watch and visit with other families and friends. This also allows the churches in the community to be known for doing community based events. This event could allow for great follow up by the hosting parties, because you can have games and other prizes for attending.

How to Organize/Implement: Develop partnerships with churches and groups to help participate, you will want to communicate this event to all the churches and ministry teams in your area. Have a clear mission, vision, and passion for the event, as you plan Share the vision and bring together a core group from various Churches who are willing to make the event happen. You may also like to gather a group of people that are willing to meet and pray for the event. Decide on the nature of the event. Issues include; venue, size, legalities, permissions, activities (food and festival choices face painting etc), agreed approach to evangelism, wet weather alternatives, equipment needs and availability Be clear on goals of the event, roles required and shared values. Where possible seek to make the event free to all those who come. Delegate responsibilities and accountabilities-see green level how to build a team for suggested job descriptions 5 Develop a time line of strategic next steps. 6 On-going monitoring of event development 7 Training for all volunteers 8 Hold the event Equipment/Resources Needed: Essentials: TV screen for simple public sports screen or projector and sufficient size screen for larger crowds; sound system, DVD of athlete s testimonies, permit for outdoor gathering of people if needed Optional: Food vendors, security, lighting, seating, activities for children like, face painting, clowns, balloon makers, games, radio personality and maybe a live show, transportation, hospitality persons, finances or fundraising, sponsorships, outreach counselors, free health checkups, coloring competition, etc Extras: If you are doing a community festival style public screen, try to involve other community groups, during break of game play an athlete s testimony or someone share a testimony, have resources to give away after the event is complete, plan for ways to gather information from those that are attending so follow up can take place. 9 Develop and implement on-going community transformation strategy

3. Resource Distribution It s a strategy that encompass the production and distribution of print, audio and video resources that are relevant and contextualized for the needs of the target audiences of those either attending a Major Sporting Event or taking part in a non host partnership initiative surrounding a MSE (MTG, TUG, The Way Forward, The Winning Partnership). This can also be utilized during regional, country, city, and village events. There are multiple evangelistic tools in the ISC network from a variety of resource providers. These tools help communicate and convey the Gospel message by putting the testimonies of athletes into the hands of fans in a variety of formats; print, audio, video. Objectives To bring people closer to a relationship with God by placing resources of athletes stories in their hands. Target Audience To reach out sports fans, athletes, coaches, officials, families and/or visitors and locals in your city. How to Organize/Implement: You can hand out print literature (pocket guide, player card, Bibles, magazines, etc.), video resources (DVD s) and audio resources (audio Bibles, CD s), to fans who are attending MSE s, Festivals, Public sports screen showings, Fan Zones, on the streets, in stadiums, etc. QR codes (Quick Response Codes) are allowing the distribution of print literature to link to video and audio resources on the internet, and/or website promotion. Volunteers from churches, Para-church organizations, Individuals, coaches, players, chaplains, officials, etc. Equipment/Resources Needed: Pocket guides, player cards, Bibles, magazines. Video resources (DVD s) Audio resources (audio Bibles, CD s)

4. Sports Camps Sports camps have been an integral strategy implemented by churches and agencies for more than 40 years. The strategy isn't new and doesn't need a lot of explanation. What makes a TUG Sports Camp more impactful is when it is held prior to, during or following the World Cup. Our opportunity is to maximize the interest in soccer training because of the worldwide television coverage. Objectives A Sports Camp can be either a residential or non-residential period of time with sports coaching and competition, and opportunities to teach about the good news of Jesus. Provide quality soccer skill development, competition and spiritual nurture Introduce churches to on-going sports-related ministry development It's about soccer coaching- plus much more! Target Audience There are three distinct criteria when thinking about whom to target the Sports Camp at: Standard of the player - this dictates the level of coaching and tempo of competition. There are three universal standards 1- recreational/development 2-participation 3-performance/elite Background of belief - are the young people Christians, non-christians or both together? This dictates the Christian content. Age of the young people - For coaching drills and serious competition it is important to monitor the age range. How to Organize/Implement: 1 Identify a coach or coaches who are qualified to teach soccer skills 2 What age group are you best prepared to provide a soccer camp 3 What number of participants can you accommodate in the soccer camp 4 Is it best to provide the soccer camp where the participants live or use an overnight facility 5 How many volunteers are needed to provide a quality camp

6 Who will provide high quality devotionals and or Bible teaching for the soccer campers 7 Is this an opportunity to begin annual soccer camps 8 What is your plan for follow up 9 Is the soccer camp an opportunity to introduce ongoing Ubabalo Soccer Whole Life Skills Equipment/Resources Needed: Camp facility, promo materials, medical kit, sports equipment relevant to the sport i.e. Core football equipment, organisation aids: ground markers, coloured bibs, whistles, etc. Many resources exist for sports camps see and search for Ubabalo, Coaching for Life or Sports Camps to find lots of free resources Extras: In most countries a soccer camp happens in the community where kids, youth or young adults live. In some locations soccer camps happen each Saturday for a number of weeks to fit school or work schedules. In other locations TUG soccer camps happen during the school break week or weeks and happen each morning or afternoon in the community. In some locations TUG Soccer Camps have overnight facilities where the participants stay for a number of days of soccer training. It is useful to get feedback from leaders and young people about the Sports Camp. This can then be used for planning in the future. It is also crucial after the Sports Camp has finished that young people are followed up and cared for away from the Sports Camp. Encourage leaders to continue to communicate with the young people in their team. This means that the communication is visible and parents can also be part of the communication process.

5. Sports Clinics Sports clinics have been utilized in a variety of ways and serving a variety of age groups for decades. The primary uniqueness of TUG sports clinics includes the great interest in learning soccer skills because of the worldwide visibility of the World Cup. If you have on your heart a way to help churches learn to work in partnership sports clinics is a proven way to accomplish this outcome. Because woman's soccer has grown so rapidly TUG soccer clinics for girls or women may be of equal interest is some countries as TUG soccer clinics for boys or men. Objectives: A Sports Clinic can be for novice wanting to learn how to play a sport, leisure players wanting to develop their game or for serious sports coaching and competition. Have soccer coaches provide soccer skill development, competition, and spiritual nurturing during your TUG soccer clinics. Provide quality soccer skill development, competition and spiritual nurture Introduce churches to ongoing sports-related ministry development It's about soccer coaching- plus much more! Target Audience: How to Organize/Implement: There are three distinct criteria when planning a Sports Clinic: Standard of the player - this dictates the level of coaching and tempo of competition. There are three universal standards 1- recreational/development 2-participation 3-performance/elite Background of belief - are the young people Christians, non-christians or both together? This dictates the Christian content. Age of the young people: For coaching drills and serious competition it is important to monitor the age range. Develop partnerships with churches and groups to help participate, you will want to communicate this event to all the churches and ministry teams in your area. Have a clear mission, vision, and passion for the event, as you plan. 1 Identify a coordinator from each church. 2 Develop an outreach organizing team empowered by each church 3 Develop a time line of strategic next steps.

4 Consider your target audience e.g., gender, age, ability level Research for available local resources (i.e. coaches, church sports helpers, equipment, facilities, training) Identify where the participants can be found (e.g. schools, sports clubs, neighborhood, the poor and ethnic groups) Determine the scale of sports related ministry you are willing to undertake (e.g. 'oneoff' for the TUG World Cup outreach, planting an ongoing ministry initiative in/through sport, complementing an already existing sports ministry program) 8 Assign people to key roles, (i.e. registration, catering, prizes, prayer, first aid) Each church needs to establish a follow up by the church of the children/teens/adults involved from (i.e., the local church coaches and helpers) Training of church coaches/helpers for ongoing sports ministry by those from your church or local guest coaches To invite the whole church to be involved in this community outreach opportunity. (hand out water, oranges, takes photos etc) Share the vision with other churches/organizations within your area or network as to how a TUG soccer outreach can impact your community: 12 Partnership allows access to a greater range of resources and opportunities than one church can provide Partnership will reduce the 'per-unit' cost Community impact is increased Express the unity of the church both for and beyond the event Equipment/Resources Needed: Camp facility, promotional materials, medical kit, sports equipment relevant to the sport i.e. Core football equipment, organisation aids: ground markers, coloured bibs, whistles, etc Extras: In most countries a soccer clinic happens in the community where kids, youth or young adults live. In some locations soccer clinics happen each Saturday for a number of weeks to fit school or work schedules. In other locations TUG soccer clinics happen during the school break week or weeks and happen each morning or afternoon in the community. It is useful to get feedback from leaders and young people about the Sports Camp. This can then be used for planning in the future. It is also crucial after the Sports Camp has finished that young people are followed up and cared for away from the Sports fields.

6. Sports Teams Competition Sportspeople love to compete and a match between a Christian team and a secular team can be a great way of reaching out to non-christian sportspeople and can serve as a terrific church planting and discipleship making opportunity. The sports event is not an end in itself but fuels a movement that carries on after the event. Organizers should be clear with the purpose of the event and what they hope to achieve after the sports event has finished. Objectives: To help every church or agency anywhere send culturally relevant church sports teams for the purpose of evangelism/church planting. Build bridges between the community and the church through clean and redeemed sporting environment. Transforming the community through the Church running events that bring the community together. Target Audience: The target demographics for this event are all families in the community in which the event is to take place. We want to have different events around the big screen to engage the population that attends the event. This will allow more people to attend each year, if you make it an annual event. This is a very simple but yet great way to engage the community. Kids and families find this event to be a lot of fun as they watch and visit with other families and friends. How to Organize/Implement: 1 Educate your people that you don t need to be a professional athlete to create a sports outreach strategy. 2 Identify the interest of at least one group in the church that would have the interest to be involved in a sports event basketball, volleyball, etc. 3 Finding a host ministry or church locally to send the team to. 4 Identify an adequate location near the host church or organizational premises. (Improvise if necessary)

5 Develop promotional strategy for the outreach. 6 Build music, food, mimes and other components into the strategy when possible. 7 Train team members to present the gospel. 8 Train counselors to witness to the crowds watching the matches. 9 Consider culturally relevant music and More Than Gold materials including follow-up materials. 10 Consider the wearing of uniforms for the team if finances allow. 11 Consider a festive evening with a meal, games and trivia time. 12 Consider conducting clinics Equipment/Resources Needed: ESSENTIALS: Tournament facility, promotional materials and Sports equipment relevant to the sport (ex. Soccer ball, soccer goals etc.) A Public Address system if required (if PA system is not be available, consider breaking the crowd into smaller groups). OPTIONAL: Trophies, website, tournament organizer (ex. Excel), volunteers, and festival essentials (food, music, etc.) Extras: The Community Cup is a model used in various cities and could be used for Sports Teams Competition. See section 8 of this manual.

8. Community Cup Community Cup is a sports tournament and festival connecting people to make disciples that make disciples. It is Catalytic. By that we mean that the sports event is not an end in itself but fuels a movement that carries on after the event. The ministry movement could be one of the following: Disciple Making Movement (DMM) Church Planting Incarnate Evangelism Objectives: Through the bridge of sport there is the opportunity to: Serve the needs in your community Understand your community Birth new community based sports leadership teams Ultimately this opens the doors for ministry like DMM but not exclusive to DMM Target Audience two models: Model A is designed for cities with an international/ethnic diverse population. Model B is designed for cities with different community groups united by something in common (Universities, schools, banks, business, etc.) VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE THE NAME COMMUNITY CUP for your event. The name Community Cup is used to describe the model only. Due to many sensitive cities in the world, it is requested that you create your own name and identity for your city when using the community cup ideas.

How to Organize/Implement 1 First select your mini-communities and identify their felt need. 2 Then you can design your Community Cup Engage an Organizing Committee to pray, plan and execute your tournament and followthrough ministry strategies. Appoint a director of the tournament, of volunteers, of team recruitment and of followthrough. Remember the event should take up 20% of the team s resources (ex. Time and Money) and the follow-through should utilize 80% of the team s time and money. 6 Without the follow-through you only have an event. 7 With excellent DMM follow-through you have a movement. Equipment/Resources Needed: ESSENTIALS: Tournament facility, promotional fliers and sport essentials (ex. Soccer ball, soccer goals etc.) OPTIONAL: Trophies, website, tournament organizer (ex. Excel), volunteers, and festival essentials (food, music, etc.) FOLLOW THROUGH: DMM Team

9. Global Community Games (GCG) Global Community Games is a catalytic community-wide sports and games strategy. What kids and teens see on TV during a global sports event can be replicated locally. Instead of just passively watching, they can get involved! It can be big or small. It is an easy way to bring many groups together across a city or village in a sports partnering activity (companies, churches, schools, community groups, sports organizations and local government). All GCG events are designed to be done over multiple days to build relationships. GCG is a starting point that leads to long-lasting discipleship and has many tools for follow-through. Different Global Community Games focus on different age groups: children teens young adults families KidsGames or KG TeenGames or TG EdgeGames or EG FamilyGames or FG 6-14 years 12-18years years Focus on singles, married or workers Families and anyone in the community Objectives KG, TG, EG & FG are often implemented as a way to get people started in sports ministry, to build an on-going partnering initiative and to connect with a community. Because it is generally only done once a year or every two years, it is a great tool to get groups working together, often for the first time. EG are primarily organized to prepare young adults for Life and for survival, e.g. it is the final stage of youth life before the next stage of adult responsibility. It is the first step into fulfilling their dreams, i.e. the point of launching, of flight/ exploration/ acceleration into young adulthood Everyone needs a family. In FG, every person can feel that are part of a family and feel included. It helps families experience fun and quality time.

How to Organize/Implement: GCG are easy to run Sports and Games programs. All you need are volunteer leaders and some participants. It can be done with no resources or with lots. All the written resources are free to download and use. Make sure you plan ahead and start reading the main resources listed below and you will find that GCG can make a big difference to those whom you are serving. Some GCG start with a handful of participants, while others start with a much larger number. Start with what you are able and grow from there. GCG is most effective and has the greatest impact when run by a partnership team from a group of churches, organisation, etc. This is a key principle of GCG. As you build trust and partnerships GCG will grow naturally. Choose a model that best suits your community, common models of GCG have been 10-week programs meeting once a week, 5-week programs meeting twice a week or 5 day holiday programs meeting each day or a 2 week program meeting for 10 days over the 2 weeks. Each organizing committee is free to adapt the model to their situation, while being expected to stay true to the values, principles and intention of the strategy. The 3 phases of organizing are: preparation which include curriculum preparation, participant recruitment, sports activity preparation,& administrative preparations implementation which include all sports & curriculum follow up which can be in the form of a program, weakly meeting or one day gathering You can consider to utilize other creative GCG ideas: March In Parade, Torch Lighting, Athletes Pledge, Opening & Closing Ceremony of dance, drama, music, press corps, World Water Bucket Championship, one or more compassion projects, awards ceremony, putting out the Torch and declaring the GCG program closed The program can be adapted to different to how many hours or days are able and news ideas are always welcome to add into this strategy to improve the way of reaching communities. Equipment/Resources Needed: Go to Register and login in (all free). Once you have logged in, go to the Downloads menu and then choose Manuals. Go to to find great follow-through tools like BibleMAX.
