TRINITY UK and Overseas Missions Report for has been a year of change for TRINITY UK and Overseas Missions. Some of our mission partners have experienced substantial transition: Christine Angell retired from her work in Egypt after 30 years of service. Miriam Daughtery moved from YWAM Harpenden to start full time study at Plymouth University. Jonathan Lamb returned to the UK and after seeking the Lord for the next step has started work as the UK Director of LIA ministries. We have also seen some of TRINITY youth, Amber Simms and Beth Robson going overseas to serve God in demanding situations in Peru. We have supported and been inspired by people in mission: Danny Gill, who is a MAF pilot working in South Sudan, particularly inspired the children at TRINITY. Ian and Mary Hempshall have recently returned from an inspirational trip to Nicaragua. It has also been great to see the cooperation between the TRINITY Creation Care team and the TRINITY Missions team over the Tearfund Toilet Twinning initiative. The mission prayer meeting is growing in numbers and is a spine tingling meeting to come to as we pray for missions. Everyone is really welcome to join us (first Monday of each month at 730pm, usually Church End). Geographical Breakdown of TRINITY Mission Giving 2017 Rest of the world 15% Europe 16% UK 22% Africa 31% Middle East 16% 2017 has also been a year of change in how TRINITY supports mission in the UK and Overseas. Following a review by the mission committee, the PCC approved a new structure for mission selection and funding. The reorganisation is now complete. There are three Tiers for TRINITY missions: Tier One: Mission partners who have been sent by TRINITY and have left home and moved to live and serve full time 24/7 on their chosen mission field. They know that they have a commitment from TRINITY for financial, prayer and practical support whilst they are away. They have a champion at TRINITY whilst they are away.

Tier Two: This Tier is for missions that have a strong people link with TRINITY because a member or members of TRINITY work for the mission and hold some responsibility/ influence in that mission or mission activity (either salaried or volunteer). TRINITY commitment to this group is reviewed annually. This tier is also for missions in which we have a strong thematic interest. This gives us the flexibility to focus on a mission for which we do not have a strong link through any person, but for which we really like their work because it is doing something that we want to support according to the agreed mission themes. The mission themes that we want to support are: bringing the word, unreached people groups, persecuted church, development work and integral mission, healing and helping the marginalised, mission support work, discipleship and training, help for refugees, creation care, and social justice. Tier Three: The third tier is for shorter term/ one off/ exploratory ventures/trips and missions that individuals at TRINITY are passionate about. TRINITY PCC allocated 30,700 in the financial year ending December Please see the Pie chart for the thematic distribution of mission funding. Also please note that individuals give to specific missions via TRINITY which is separate to the 30,700 allocation. I would like to say a big thank you to the Mission Committee (Anne Almond, Jean Pengelly, Jeanette Clifton, Rob Hoy, John Jardine and Ian Hempshall) for their work this year. I would also like to say a big Thank You to Richard and Prilla Rowland for leading the mission prayer meeting. Finally, much appreciation must go to those involved in TRINITY missions. There now follows reports from Tier One and Tier Two missions. 3 TRINITY Missions. Christine Angell. SIM International has just celebrated 125 years of ministry by holding a Global Assembly, with 500 participants, in South Africa at the end of February The main speakers were the head of the Bible Society of Egypt and his wife, who serves among the poor in a garbage village. They challenged delegates that the most important qualification for missionary service is to love the people one serves. While I know that I often fell short, the people of Egypt and my colleagues, neighbours and friends in particular hold a big place in my heart. And I felt overwhelmed by their love and generosity when they farewelled me prior to my return to UK just before Christmas. I have received many invitations to visit Egypt in the future, and I hope to do so possibly on an annual basis, but that s as the Lord leads. The local ministry with which I served recently moved into new premises, and is preparing to open a community centre to serve the poor in a new and rapidly growing area of Cairo. The community development and spiritual work in the villages continues, and there are many stories of transformed lives. People who felt that their lives had no value are coming to realise that they are valuable in God s sight, and are responding to His love. Personal and family relationships are being healed, and people in desperate poverty are learning new skills and using them to earn their living. I trained my national colleagues, and praise God that they have risen to the challenge of carrying on the donor relations and English secretarial work without me. And I left the leadership of the little SIM-Egypt team in the capable hands of an American colleague, who is preparing orientation materials for potential new workers. Points for Praise For Egyptian Christians who are reaching out and serving their communities at a time of real economic pressure and social change. For the privilege of serving in Egypt for 30 years, and the Lord s provision of all I needed. That I was able to say my goodbyes and finish well, and hand over my work to others.

My warm thanks to members of TRINITY for your faithful prayers over the years, and for your generous financial contributions towards my personal support and expenses of the local ministry. Also for welcoming me back! Lisa Meadows During 2017 I am grateful to have been involved with a variety of ministries at River of Life Church, Masaka, Uganda. My role included assisting the house mother in the White Eagle s children home; building relationships with the children, Bible teaching & running some weekend craft, games & baking activities using some of the TRINITY funding. I led a teaching series throughout the year where we looked at what Love is and redefined Father God s love; in comparison to many of their negative experiences of parental love. In September I began a second teaching series on the theme of spiritual growth. Half way through the year I was asked to become a staff member in the home where I took on more responsibilities; including 1:1 mentoring, admin, training them in various skills in art & crafts using the TRINITY funding and making gifts to bless the local children; whilst sharing with them the love of Jesus. In 2017 I was largely involved with community outreach; visiting needy families. We saw many giving their lives to Jesus and were able to bless many with Bible s & food packages. I took part in the school s ministry, teaching at local schools. Through the year I was involved in teaching the under 18 s youth club and using the funding from TRINITY I have helped to re-boost the over 18 s youth group, Amazing Generation. I was able to start a fortnightly Bring & Share home group at my house where we shared some very special & powerful times in God s presence together. As a group I was able to fund outreaches; travelling into local communities to share the gospel; giving out food packages to many in poverty & blessing many needy families with Bibles. I enjoyed taking part in the fortnightly prison ministry; preaching & praying for the women; where we were grateful to see several ladies giving their lives to Jesus. I was given the opportunity to develop my gift in prophetic art by sharing a message & painting a picture during the monthly Organic Worship

nights held at River of Life Church. I am grateful for the relationships I have built throughout the year with the church members & staff. Praise points: 4 of the White Eagle girls gave their lives to Jesus & one making a big step to forgive. Young people growing in Christ together through Amazing Generation & many being saved through the outreaches The White Eagles learning new craft skills to help equip them for the future Mission Rwanda/Life in Abundance In March 2017, after nearly four years on the mission field in Rwanda, I returned to live in the UK. Before coming home, I co-ordinated three back-toback teams from churches in Blakeney and Yaxley as well as from TRINITY. It was a wonderful way to finish my season in Rwanda that had started in 2007 with the first team from Southover. Between the teams two houses were built (one on the tiny island of Ishywa on Lake Kivu with Yaxley subsequently funding a new church to be built there), 30 pastors were trained in the use of the African Bible Commentary and their wives in health and hygiene. Health training was also given to people on Ishywa and the Blakeney team went into churches to teach Open the Book a wonderful way, through drama, to tell Gospel stories. Returning to the UK, I needed to allow myself time to get a sense of what God was calling me to do next and to trust in him but knowing I wanted to continue to serve him in Rwanda and Africa. In August 2017, I received an from Dr Florence Muindi, CEO of a Kenyan NGO called Life in Abundance, who I had briefly met at Peace Guest House, in Cyangugu three years ago when I was working there as General Manager. Dr Florence contacted me asking if I was still in Rwanda or back in the UK she was in London and keen to meetup. She invited me to become LIA-UK Director and to establish Life in Abundance in the UK to build strategic partnerships with churches, mission

organisations and foundations. The following week I was on a plane going to Nairobi to meet the LIA-Kenya staff. It felt like God had his hand in that first meeting with Dr Florence in Rwanda and how stepping out and trusting in him is allowing me to do full-time Kingdom work. I have much to praise God for and it is very exciting to see how LIA are equipping and training local churches in 14 countries to sustainably transform communities through the holistic model of Jesus. I am also very grateful for funding from TRINITY and others to support educational sponsorship in Rwanda as well as establish a micro-finance business programme in Cyangugu. It is encouraging to see how lives of children and families are being changed by these initiatives. Jonathan Lamb Open Hands was founded and is run by TRINITY member Rebekka Maughan, along with two Open Hands Trustees also from TRINITY: Trevor Meadows and Ian Taplin. Rebekka and her team are passionate to see the love of Jesus in action by working among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Romania. Their work is inspired by 1 John 3, 18: 'Let us love, not in word or speech but in truth and action'. In 2017 Open Hands continued to focus on its two main projects: The Rainbow House and the Family Support Program. The Rainbow House is a day centre which cares and educates children from extremely poor and marginalised homes. Children typically come from homes which are tiny spaces without food, running water or light. The Rainbow House offers a stark contrast. Here the children get cleaned, fed and experience the love of Jesus. They receive schooling and opportunities to play. Praise Point for 2017: With the help of TRINITY and other sponsors Open Hands was able to renovate the Rainbow House. The garden was developed and a beautiful playground built which the children enjoy immensely. The children love The Rainbow House. It is a place filled with peace, a place where the children can experience the healing power of Jesus s love. Family Support: Open Hands regularly supports 80 impoverished children and their families with: Education, Health, Home visits and Housing. Praise Point for 2017: The children s lives at home and school drastically improved. Local relationships with the council in Romania were tightened and grants received

to enable renovations of two homes. Thank you TRINITY for your continued support. Open Hands distributed 492 Christmas Shoe Boxes to very deprived children. One little boy remarked: I never received anything so beautiful! Presents were given to two boys who had lost their mum two weeks prior in a violent attack by their father. It brightened their Christmas. For these children the Shoe Boxes are the highlight of their year because they receive nothing else. Praise Point: With the help of TRINITY and other sponsors Open Hands was able to host two big Christmas parties. Families were served a three course meal; there were craft activities, songs, games and a Christmas tree decorated by the children with presents underneath. Prison Fellowship at HMP Lewes Liz Lunt writes: Lewes prison is a familiar landmark. It can remind us of our freedom, while also making us feel uncomfortable when we think about the 700 prisoners who lack theirs. However, with a little time and compassion it's possible to begin to get to know some of the prisoners stories and realise that their lives are valuable, that God has a purpose for them and that we can be part of his plan for them. Over the last few years I have been part of the Prison Fellowship Group which meets monthly to pray for Lewes Prison. We support volunteers who go into the prison to help with the sycamore tree courses, Sunday services and looking after prisoners children in the visits hall creche. We also pray the prayers the prisoners write and put into the prayer box and seek God's blessing for all involved in the prison - staff, volunteers, prisoners and their families. I have recently been accepted as a prisoner pen pal. When I've completed the initial training I will be matched with a female prisoner through prison fellowship and commit to them by writing and receiving letters. I hope this will be a two way blessing as we share stories and experiences. Points for praise: A very good chaplaincy team at HMP Lewes. Lots of interaction with prisoners at the chapel services and through the Sycamore Tree

Positive changes in prisoners' lives as a result of attending Sycamore Tree courses Prisoners coming to faith and some being baptised Prisoners helped to keep contact with their families through the Angel Tree scheme. The Sussex Prisoners' Families organisation willing to work with us and help with meeting prisoners' families' needs. We used to have folk visiting prisoners on the wings and chatting to them, but currently this has been stopped due to staffing levels. Please pray for visits to start again. Feba uses life-giving media to bring transformation to people in places that are often hard to reach. Feba trains local Christians to produce inspiring radio programmes in the local language of the people, working alongside the church and speaking with relevance to the needs of the community. Some places where Feba partners work might be described as closed countries in North East Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East. Places where worship, meeting together and evangelism are illegal or significantly restricted. In these situations radio is an ideal tool for sharing the Christian faith and delivering bible teaching. Technology means that this is not restricted to just shortwave radio broadcasting but includes the internet, mobile phone apps and social media messaging services. One of the projects provides Christian radio online as well as a large resource of Christian material including the Bible, Christian videos and worship music in a local language for a people group facing significant restrictions. These free resources support Christians who face imprisonment if they are caught meeting together. Here is a recent listener story from Central Asia: I was travelling a long distance by taxi. During this trip, I listened to your radio via my smartphone headphones. I was alone in the taxi because I paid for all the seats. On the road I saw a woman who was poorly dressed, standing with heavy luggage. I asked the driver to stop and I asked the woman to join me in the taxi for free. When she got in she asked me Are you a Christian?! I said Why do you think so? She answered Because only Christians can do things like this. And then we started a long conversation. She knew about the radio and sometimes she was even listening to it, but she had never met a real Christian before this moment. She was sure Christians are good people but she had never seen them. She thought they didn t exist in our country or they all live only in the capital. During the trip (3 to 4 hours) we talked about Jesus,

his role and mission in our life. So when we arrived at our destination, we were both Christians. Praise the Lord Almighty! Praise God that there is nowhere and no one that He cannot reach! Praise God for the development of a new short wave radio project broadcasting to another closed country. Carole Darling works for Feba and says Thank You TRINITY! A Rocha UK are a Christian conservation charity working to protect and restore the natural world both nationwide and through local projects as in Southall where the A Rocha UK Centre is located. Through it s two projects in West London A Rocha UK hopes to demonstrate a connection between people of all ages, abilities and the natural world. Looking after our world A Rocha UK believes is something everybody can do all faiths and none so it is inclusive. David Melville has been working part time for over 7 years with ARUK, latterly as Education Manager in west London in two areas Minet Country Park a living legacy and in the Wolf Fields Community Gardens, a new venture. Wolf Fields is owned by Ealing Council and had fallen into disrepair attracting vandalism and antisocial behaviour. Working in partnership with the local community it has now been transformed from brokenness into a beautiful urban nature reserve. You will find an amazing array of resources on site. David s praise points have been to encourage the next generation to get inspired by the natural world. He has done this by engaging with the local primary schools through competitions, science, geography and RE lessons all linked to the national curriculum. Nearly 80 education events occurred last year. Many individuals influenced footfall (some children appear more than once). Special needs groups included with deaf children, partially sighted and blind persons. At every event whether the school is Christian, Secular or Sikh we state our motivation that we are a Christian charity and believe God made the world special, so we should care for all God has created.

How has the TRINITY Lewes funding helped? It has made him feel supported by home church and very proud in core team meetings to hear the words Lewes TRINITY in relation to funds along with other funders and supporters. Practically the money has gone towards enhancing an interpretation board to have the braille language included, purchased a complete set of nets and equipment for children to see what minibeasts are in the wild flower meadow and researching a nest box camera to be equipped using solar power and Wi- Fi, all part of local education for children from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Poverty is also about not having access to the enriching and stimulating opportunities that nature provides. Wycliffe Bible Translators Since February 1999, I have been the Library Research Coordinator at Wycliffe Associates, now MissionAssist, which supports Wycliffe Bible Translators (WBT). TRINITY Church has been supporting the work of WBT in Papua New Guinea (PNG), specifically the Iduna Translation Project, in which Ann Winser has had a particular interest. The Iduna New Testament was first published in 1982, and is currently being revised, and the Old Testament is a work in progress. Teams of translators visit the Alotau Regional Centre, in the Milne Bay Province, on a regular basis, in order to carry out translation checking. TRINITY's support of this project is continuing (specifically in the area of travel to, and accommodation at, the Centre), and it is also supporting other language groups which do not have outside funding. Some of the PNG translators find it more difficult than others to attend courses at the Alotau Regional Centre. Their communities are expected to provide course fees for each participant, and also transport to and from Alotau. In July, when the initial Translators Training Course will take place, TRINITY will be funding the provision of an NIV Study Bible for each participant as a resource for them to learn to use during the course, and then use for all their subsequent translation work. TRINITY will also be funding costs of transport to the course. The Alotau Regional Centre focusses on training Papua New Guineans in Bible translation and related subjects: literacy, Scripture use, oral Bible storying, programme planning, Biblical languages, paratext (a computer program used to access and compare Biblical resources), etc. Joe and Heather Patrick are the current centre managers.

Here is an excerpt from the PNG Prayerline: in May 2017, there were more participants than expected at the paratext workshop, from nine different language groups. In July 2017, there were 18 trainees from 6 language groups at the translators training course. This course concentrates on translation of Hebrew poetry and other aspects of Old Testament translation which are difficult to express in PNG languages. For example, in Milne Bay, the languages do not have a word for the concept of guilt, only for the feeling when sin has been discovered. The participants in this course enjoyed acting out significant events in Jewish history, like crossing the Red Sea, and wandering in the wilderness. The translators and the staff at Alotau regional Centre appreciate the continuing support of TRINITY Church. Thank you, Mary Hempshall. The Brighton and Hove City Mission was established in We care practically and spiritually for many of the needs around us in Brighton. We currently serve through three teams, the schools team, the food banks and the rest homes. This is an update on the Brighton Food Bank which exists to help families and individuals going through times of crisis. We do this primarily through food parcels, but also through supporting clients emotionally, physically, and spiritually, whilst also signposting them to other agencies across the city for expert advice. As a Christian food bank it is our privilege to share our faith with clients, and offer prayer when welcomed. Each client needs a referral and is given an appointment time. Looking back over 2017, we are so thankful for the many agencies we have worked with. A total of 684 people were supported through the work of our food bank this year. During 2017, a total of 29510kg of food was donated to pass on to our clients. We run a Fuel Aid scheme. A small number of carefully selected families and individuals struggling with heating their home, benefit from this grant scheme. In addition to this for those being housed for the first time, our team can assist with a Start-Up Home Pack, which consists of some essential items, such as kitchen equipment, a towel, and some bedding. The Brighton Food Bank works alongside a mix of churches, who deliver this vital service together to Brighton. Our team is run by 3 staff and 17 volunteers

who attend 11 different local churches. A total of 106 churches regularly support the work of our foodbank financially and through prayer. Thank you! Simone Halliwell. Passion for Sport exists to promote a relevant, alternative, Christ-centered lifestyle to sports fans around the world. Passion for Sport is funded through donations from individuals, churches and trusts in the UK and USA. We thank God for His faithful and generous provision and pray for continued growth in this ministry using media to introduce sports fans to Jesus. In 2017 thanks to the donation from TRINITY, our development manager, made a visit to Accra, Ghana to attend the three day (Africa by Radio Media) Continental Convention. He was able to offer sample programmes to radio stations in Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Uganda and share how our programmes can not only help build their audience but also introduce Jesus to the sports fan. Another important aspect of the visit was to conduct Focus Groups among a typical sports loving African audience. Eighteen young people joined our journalist colleague and myself at the University of Ghana gymnasium on the Saturday afternoon. We conducted four Focus Groups which involved the participants listening to sample programmes, recording a discussion about topics raised in the programmes and then finally filling out an evaluation form about each programme. And finally, he had the opportunity of visiting a few radio stations/managers in Cape Coast and in Accra to share about PASSION FOR SPORT and the future plans we have in place for the next four years. The visit enabled us to make our content more widely known among media practitioners and key stakeholders; conduct analysis of our content using a sample of our audience; and visit key partners in both Cape Coast and Accra. From this we expect a greater use of our content in both Ghana and Uganda. Luke Hamilton is a trustee for Passion for Sport and he says a big Thank you to TRINITY for making this visit possible.

TEARFUND IS A CHRISTIAN CHARITY CALLED TO FOLLOW JESUS WHEREVER THE NEED IS GREATEST We work tirelessly to help communities around the world escape the very worst effects of poverty and disaster. And we believe that the same people facing these troubles, also have the best idea as to how they can overcome them. Tearfund listens: helping people to rise out of their poverty, utilising their resourcefulness and determination. Tearfund works alongside local churches and other locally-based organisations to help realise these plans for a better future. Catriona De Jean writes: I head up the Impact and Effectiveness team at Tearfund and I am responsible for working with our teams and partners around the world to understand and measure what is working and what is not working. We want to see meaningful long term change. We want to learn and adapt our work to the changing contexts we are working in and to be the best we can so that together with our partners, networks, supporters and donors we can impact the lives of many around the world. You can read more about how TRINITY's money may have been used in various initiatives and projects around the world in our Impact and Learning Report - _evaluation/ Thank you for all the support that TRINITY gives to Tearfund and all the support to me personally. My role is demanding but really rewarding and it is great when we can see how what we are learning and the evidence we are collecting helps us to adapt and change and see even more impact. I have the privilege to travel and meet with many communities, individuals and partners around the world and I most definitely do not have a standard '9-5' job. I know that your support does make a difference and I have seen first-hand where communities are empowered and leading their own futures with the support of local partners and Tearfund.
