Hurt Feelings + Offense = jesse DUPLANTIS 4 VOTC August 2013

Years ago, my daddy gave me a word of wisdom. He said, Son, the older your wife gets, the more she s going to tell you how to drive. He must have been a prophet because, lately, I ve come to understand exactly what he meant all those years ago. Today, it seems like all I hear from If you re hurt, you will look for someone to heal you. If you re offended, you will look for someone else to hurt. Cathy when I m behind the wheel is, Did you see that on the road? Oh, did you see that on the road?! Any little thing that I might possibly run over makes her speak up. The woman can spot ant trails a mile away! It s enough to drive a man to offense. Of course, I did run over something one time and busted a tire and just a few days later I ran into a rut in the pavement and busted another tire. Sure, I realize that ripping out two tires in a short span of time is a lot, but give me a break. Since those two incidents, I ve been getting driving tips every stinking time I get behind the wheel. Evidently, Cathy doesn t think I can see anything now. You know, you re always in the wrong lane, she says, right before she starts muttering about something in the road a few miles ahead. Uh, Jesse, uh, uh, Jesse, she says, Do you see that coming up? It s enough to make me want to rip the wheel from the steering column and give it to the woman, But like I said earlier, that would be offense poking through. That would lead me right to the place where I don t want to be with Cathy: the slums! Not long after that, while we were driving in the car, I threw out a great comeback to Cathy. She saw something I was doing wrong behind the wheel, and the woman couldn t get the words out fast enough. She got all tongue tied for a moment there and muttered, Uhh, ahhh, Jess, ahh. I shocked her so much. I said, Jump in the back seat, mama. It will come to you! She just looked at me with a smirk. I remember the time that I was riding behind a big truck and suddenly the rig lost a tread from one of its tires. That big, black piece of rubber was rolling on the road, and I got as close to it as I could before I jerked the car away. I did it just to hear the woman talk. She said, I thought you were going to hit something again! Now, I shouldn t have deliberately antagonized her, but it felt so good! I m glad God forgives. I m glad Cathy does, too. You know, Cathy and I have the kind of relationship where we tease each other for fun. We poke and pick at each other, but we are secure enough to laugh at each other s peculiarities without offense. But, sometimes, Cathy can do things that flat irritate me. On the other hand, I know that I can sometimes do things that just get under her skin, too. There are times when forgiveness needs to flow usually in my direction. Cathy and I know that if we want to receive anything from each other or God, I m sorry has to be in our vocabulary, and we need to exercise forgiveness. The same needs to happen when it comes to dealing with your family, friends, and even people in the church. Some people think that the church should be a perfect place where nobody ever gives anyone a reason to be hurt or offended. That s the ideal, but the reality is that people aren t perfect, and the best intentions are sometimes misunderstood. The Difference Between Hurt Feelings and Offense Have you ever been hurt by someone in the church? Maybe you wanted to meet with the preacher after service and a deacon told you to go away. Maybe a man of God didn t answer you when you called, or maybe he rebuked you for doing something out of order. If you ve ever been hurt or ticked off by somebody in the church, in your family, or even at your job, well, I ve got something an equation to share with you: Hurt Feelings + Offense = Slum Living. It s as basic as = 2. If you don t want to live in the slums of Christianity, and if you want to receive something from God, then you must recognize the difference between being hurt and being offended and stop yourself before you make the turn to Slumsville. Everybody gets their feelings hurt from time to time. That s normal. But it is what you add to those hurt feelings that determine how you will live. Stockpiling all the hurts of what others have said and done can only lead you from feeling bad to feeling worse. How do you recognize the difference between hurt feelings and offense? Just check your motivation for action. If you re hurt, you will look for someone to heal you. If you re offended, you will look for someone else to hurt. People who are emotionally hurt will usually seek out help. They are still open and, like a child, they want to be healed and restored. They may seek help from their pastor and their friends. They want to talk and feel better. Offended people don t act the same way. They want somebody to feel their pain alright! They want to inflict some pain on somebody, and they re usually waiting for an opportunity to pounce. If you re the one they re offended by, you re probably either feeling the heat of jdm.org 5

their boiling anger or the chill of their icy reserve, but either way, you re paying the price for ticking them off. Offended people are hurt people that have taken their feelings to another level: the slum level! Many people have wronged me in my life, and I ve had some of my friends ask me how I m able to rise above it. My answer is simple: I don t want to be like them! I want to receive from God, so if it takes releasing people for what they ve said and done to me, then that s what I m determined to do. You see, if I retaliate, which I sometimes want to do, I realize that I m being exactly like them, and I don t like that. I don t want to be an offensive person. I don t want to have to change my residence from being with God-on-High to Slum-on-Low. The Bible says that I ve been made the head and not the tail. I m destined to live above and not beneath. 35 years of Reaching People, Changing Lives, One Soul at a Time Georgia Thank God for JDM. I have been blessed through it. I am so thankful for a ministry that actually responds with real replies and not just an automated response. This gives me comfort in knowing my prayer request was actually read by someone in your ministry. Texas I want to let you know how much the declarations at the top of the monthly Partner Flyer have meant to me and my friends. One of my friends is going through a rough time and, Praise the Lord, I ve been ministering to her with those declarations, scripture, and the Voice of the Covenant magazine. She is more confident in her faith and belief in the Lord than she ever was. She is a new Christian and hadn t ever read the Bible the way she is now. Plus, she hadn t been able to understand the Bible clearly until now. Alabama I called your ministry for prayer regarding a mammogram that I had which showed two spots on both breasts. Praise the Lord, my prayers were answered. I thank God for my healing. I had all the faith in my Lord and Savior. Thanks! Sure, I get hurt. People hurt my feelings and I have to talk to God about it. Sometimes I feel myself wanting to strike back, too. But when that feeling comes up, I know that I ve got to get into the presence of God quickly before I get myself into trouble. I need to be alone so that I can release my feelings and thoughts to God and then let Him help me to release those people into His care. Hold Fast to the Form of Sound Words Sometimes I m the one who has done the offending and, when that happens, I ve found that the best two words to heal the situation are simply, I m sorry. 2 Timothy 1:13 says, Hold fast the form of sound words. Sometimes, when you re in the heat of the moment, you ve got to hold on to those words. Sometimes you ve got to do it fast before all hell breaks loose! When you are sincere with somebody and say, I m sorry, it just breaks something inside of the one you ve hurt. When you admit that what you said or did was wrong or insensitive, it brings healing. It s amazing that two little words can do so much. They can dissolve anger and tension. They can bring back a feeling of soundness and security. There are times when I just don t want to participate in an argument, even if I think I m right. It doesn t happen often, but there are those times. Sometimes, when I m driving in the car with Cathy and she is irritated with me, I make a quality decision not to argue. Cathy, I say, I m not going to fight you today. I am not going to do that today. The woman has found out that it s hard to argue with someone who won t argue back, and I ve found that if I mix that with an I m sorry, I ve got a much better shot at a good day, too. It works! A Woman Who Refused to Live in the Slums If you think that Jesus and His disciples never hurt anyone s feelings, I m sorry to tell you that you re wrong. There is a story in the Bible of a woman who had every reason under the sun to be offended by her encounter with the disciples and Jesus. Just read what happened to this woman: Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, Have 6 VOTC August 2013

mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed. But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, Send her away, for she cries out after us. But He answered and said, I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, Lord, help me! But He answered and said, It is not good to take the children s bread and throw it to the little dogs. And she said, Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters table. Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire. And her daughter was healed from that very hour. Matthew 15:21-28 NKJV Most people would have stormed off, written an ugly letter to Jesus Christ Ministries complaining of how they were treated, and spewed all sorts of bad talk to their friends and neighbors about their experience. They might have even requested counseling from their pastor. People are so easily offended today, and yet the Bible shows us that if we want to receive from God, we ve got to let things go and press on in faith. Great Humbleness + Great Faith = Miracle! The woman in Matthew chapter fifteen had every right to be offended. After all, she only wanted healing for her daughter. I ll break the passage down so that you can gain some further understanding about it. If you ll notice, the woman acknowledged Jesus lineage before she ever told Him her child s problem. When she cried out to Jesus for mercy, she made a point of calling Him the Son of David. Yet, Jesus didn t respond to her immediately. When He chose to be silent, the woman was given her first opportunity to be hurt and then offended. Next, notice that the disciples complained to Jesus about the woman. They said they were tired of hearing her wailing and asked Jesus to please send her away. Since the woman was right there, you know she heard their request. Imagine what that felt like. What if you heard the deacons complain to the pastor about something you were doing? What if you overheard the deacons asking for you to be run off? How would you feel? Hurt? Angry? Would you feel that you had the right to be offended? This was the woman s second opportunity to be hurt and then offended. After hearing the disciples complaint, Jesus made a simple statement not to the woman, but to the disciples: I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel (verse 24). What was His point? He was supposed to complete the prophecies of the Jewish prophets before reaching out to those outside of Israel. There was a master plan in place, a very distinct order to His ministry. Again, the woman heard this comment. This was her third opportunity to be hurt and then offended. At this point, the woman could have stormed off, and most people would say that she had the right to do so, but she didn t. Instead, she did the exact opposite of what a hurt and offended person would do: She worshipped Jesus. She called Him Lord and, again, made her request known. Do you know what Jesus did then? He said something that would have made most people today mad as a hornet: It is not good to take the children s bread and throw it to the little dogs (verse 26). Whoa! Jesus told the woman in no uncertain terms that she wasn t allowed to partake of the covenant because she was outside of the Jewish race. It was not her time yet; it was another dispensation. Jesus had not fulfilled enough prophecies yet, and He wanted her to know that it was wrong to give her what was meant for God s chosen people. 35 years of Reaching People, Changing Lives, One Soul at a Time Facebook My husband and I both grew up in Independent Fundamental Baptist churches where our dads were the respective pastors. We both knew growing up that something was wrong, and as we entered our late teen years, we started looking into God s Word for ourselves. Even so, it has been a progression: first taking the step to go to a Baptist church that taught more true to the Word. As we encountered things in our own life and looked around in our churches, we began to realize that something was still missing. Through our own prayer that God would reveal ALL He has offered us, the TRUE Gospel, God led us to Jesse Duplantis. From his ministry, we connected with other Partners and now we are learning by leaps and bounds, as well as learning to apply what we are hearing. I am so thankful to God for answering that prayer. He is truly showing us ALL He has to offer us through the Gospel of Jesus! jdm.org 7

Did the woman flinch at being referred to as a little dog? Did she take this fourth opportunity to be hurt and then offended? No. Instead, she said something so humble and faith-filled that we are still talking about it today: Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters table (verse 27). This comment changed everything. It was so humble and faith-filled to Jesus ears that He actually moved off of His divine plan. Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire. And her daughter was healed from that very hour (verse 28). This woman got her miracle because she pressed on in faith and refused to be offended. Her great humbleness and faith drew on the power of the Lord Jesus and, within an hour, her daughter was healed. Jesus didn t even have to travel and lay hands on the girl. With this kind of faith, there is absolutely no distance between God and man. With this kind of humility, persistence, and refusal to be offended, the doors for miracles swing open wide! Great Faith Never Misses an Opportunity It Refuses Discouragement What made this woman different from most people? She lived above offense and she had the will to seize the moment. She made a decision to keep doing the right thing in spite of conflict. Great faith like hers always refuses discouragement and rarely misses an opportunity. Most people would have walked away from Jesus saying, Forget this! Not this woman! She didn t care what it took or what people said about her. She didn t care about her status. She freely acknowledged that she didn t belong to the house of Israel, yet she made a point of telling Jesus that she needed help and would take whatever she could get. In her opinion, a crumb was better than nothing. This kind of attitude was in direct contrast to the holier-than-thou attitude of the disciples, and I believe Jesus wanted His boys to see it. What is the lesson that Jesus wanted to teach His disciples through this story? The lesson is that who God honors is God s business! Even if that person seems as lowly as a dog, their faith can draw on the power of God. You see, Jesus knew that there was prejudice and arrogance among the disciples. I believe that the reason 8 VOTC August 2013 Jesus died so that we could be forgiven of our sins and encouraged us to forgive others as He has forgiven us. Jesus didn t say anything to the woman in the beginning of the story is because He was not looking at her; Jesus was looking to His disciples to see what they would do. Being silent, Jesus gave the boys an opportunity to speak up. Did the disciples do the right thing? Did they show their love for God and people and immediately pray with the woman? Did they handle the situation by encouraging her to have faith and only believe? No. Instead of meeting the woman with faith, they met her with disgust. They complained about her to Jesus and wanted her dismissed. Why? They were offended by her presence. They didn t think she had the right to approach Jesus or them she was too lowly to ask them for anything. Jesus proved the disciples wrong. Jesus taught them that even a woman of low status could receive from God. As long as she was willing to exercise great faith, she could gain the very same blessing as a man with high status. The same faith that worked for the Jewish disciples would work for a Canaanite woman. What was Jesus doing? He was preparing them for a new dispensation a world where salvation through His blood sacrifice would open the power of God to everyone, including those outside the house of Israel. If You Hold Out on God, God Will Hold Out on You Today we live under a new covenant that gives every believer Jew and Gentile the opportunity to receive from God. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are suddenly accepted by God as His adopted children and there is no more separation among us. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ s, then are ye Abraham s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:28-29 There are no second-class citizens in Christianity. Since the work of Jesus on the cross, anyone who calls upon the name of Jesus can be saved and become an heir to the promises of God. If you re saved, then you are able to walk boldly to the throne of grace. That s a blessing and an honor, but if you let offense cloud up your heart, you re not going to be able to receive much from God. Mark 11:26 says,

But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in Heaven forgive your trespasses. Don t assume that you can approach His throne of grace and receive what you need in times of help if you re holding on to offense. It isn t going to happen. If you hold out on other people, God will hold out on you. Receiving from God is about more than faith; it s about forgiving and releasing those who ve hurt you, offended you, and whose annoying actions and angry words have caused you to walk with a big stick. You can know a lot about the Bible and have faith for big miracles, but if you still hold offense in your heart over something a person did or said to you years ago, you re just not going to receive as quickly or as easily as you d like. Releasing people for the things they say and do is just part of the abundant life Jesus came to give us ( John 10:10). Jesus died so that we could be forgiven of our sins and encouraged us to forgive others as He has forgiven us. It s supposed to be part of our abundant lifestyle. What we ve been freely given, we should freely give. Life just can t be abundant when it s full of hurt emotions and offense. Life is full of annoying people that nobody likes, but you ve still got to love them. Sometimes you just have to tell yourself, Look, Jesus forgave me. I m going to forgive this person. It s an act of your will because some people aren t just thorns in the flesh, they re complete bushes! You can get offended just by somebody s personality. Jesus lesson to the disciples teaches us that we shouldn t just dismiss somebody who gets on our nerves. People who get under your skin aren t being used by the devil to attack you maliciously; they usually just have the kind of personality that rubs you the wrong way. They get on your nerves because you can t see past their personality into their heart. You can t see their issues or why they do what they do. Check your heart and remember that a person s skin color, rank, or mannerisms don t mean anything. Even if they aggravate you, you don t have to act on every aggravated natural emotion. God has given you His Word so that you can live by something stronger and more secure than feelings: it s called faith! If someone comes your way that needs help, don t wait for someone higher in rank to do what you ve got the power to do. Pray for people who need prayer. Don t just ask God to take the problem person away, pray for God to help them. That s what they need. You may not make it out of the slums overnight, but you can sure point yourself in the right direction and keep on walking this out with your faith until you get there! 35 years of Reaching People, Changing Lives, One Soul at a Time Texas Last month my finances were tight, so I held my check to JDM. I got out my IRA and prayed over it. I do not want to touch it. Well, as I prayed, I picked up my check to Jesse Duplantis Ministries and dropped it in the mail. The very next day my sister called with money for me. She had a $13,900 check for me. Praise God! The next day I received a $250 check to help me with my medications! My God does provide my needs and I want to share that with you. Nobody is perfect and you may make mistakes. I do! Everybody does. But remember that if you re saved, then you ve got the very nature of God pulsing in your spirit. You were saved in a moment, but you don t become perfect (mature) in a moment. It takes time to grow up spiritually, so you have to practice living by the Spirit. Jesus said, Be ye holy; for I am holy (1 Peter 1:16). Holiness is part of your nature now, and Jesus wouldn t tell you to do something that you aren t able to do. Holiness is something you work on day-by-day. You may not make it out of the slums overnight, but you can sure point yourself in the right direction and keep on walking this out with your faith until you get there. The more you flow in this, the harder you will find it to be offended. Little by little, you ll find that you start letting offensive comments roll off of you like water off a duck s back. How Does Offense Begin? No, it doesn t begin with your mother-in-law! It starts in the mind. After all, you don t act on anything unless you first think about it, even if it s just for a second. That s why evil thoughts should be intensely guarded against. They are the ultimate source of all sin and misery in the world. If somebody hurts you or angers you, guard your mind! Go to God in prayer. Don t let thoughts remain that will only intensify the hurt feelings. Instead, do what the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:5, Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity jdm.org 9

Brought to You by PROJECT legacy Out of the vault of Jesse Duplantis Ministries, we re introducing the second of our DIGITALCLASSICS Hurt Feelings + Offense = Slum Living When a person says something that hurts your feelings or does something that makes you feel like a low-down, dirty piece of trash, you ve got a choice to make. You can hit them and repent later. (This is a bad choice!) You can dwell on it, add offense to the mix, and let those thoughts drive you all the way to Slumsville. (This is an even worse choice!) Or you can release them, allow God to sooth your emotions, and move on with your life. (This is the best choice!) $4 mp3 (Audio) $8 mp4 (Video) Download your copy today jdm.org Scan here to purchase at our store. every thought to the obedience of Christ. The minute you begin to dwell on it longer than you should, you re fertilizing something that could choke out your blessings. And the longer you dwell on what someone did to you, the harder it will be to rip out the root of offense and receive anything from God. If you don t cast them down, those hurtful statements or situations may become a stronghold in your thoughtlife that will drag you into the slums and keep you from receiving God s best. Your mind isn t saved. So, even in good situations, wrong thoughts can arise. For instance, suppose you re sitting in church and the pastor recognizes a couple sitting near to you. You like the couple. You hear the pastor say something nice about what they ve done and you agree with him. Then, a little twinge of jealousy crops up and you catch yourself going from thoughts of agreement to thoughts like, Well, I ve done a lot for this church, why doesn t he recognize me? That is a perfect example of an imagination that has no right to stay. It s a very small hurt feeling that if left alone, could end up as an offense. Cast those kinds of little thoughts down before they drag you to slum living. Nobody Said You Have to Like Them! Some people think that being a Christian means you have to like everybody. It s not true. Jesus didn t exactly like the Pharisees and the Sadducees, but He loved them enough to die for them. Sure, He called them snakes, vipers, and hypocrites that was just the truth! But He also hung on a cross for their sin and said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34). People are going to do things you wish they d never do. They re going to say things you don t understand and give you every reason under the sun to get hurt and develop an offense. Don t take the opportunity! If you choose to add offense to hurt feelings, you re going to end up living in the slums of Christianity and that s not where God wants you to be. God created you to live in the High places. He wants you to be the head and not the tail; to live above and not beneath. So, don t let what other people do determine how you re going to live. Choose to live above offense and have God s best! a 10 VOTC August 2013

Believe, Obey & Expect the Impossible I have often heard it said that miracles are like a dinner bell: when you ring it, people run to the table. That s really what happened during the earthly ministry of Jesus. When people heard that He performed miracles, multitudes brought their sick to Jesus to be healed. But Jesus did not expect the miraculous to come to a standstill when He left the earth. He said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to My Father ( John 14:12). He gave supernatural power to His disciples and expected them to use it to bless others. He taught them that all things were possible to them that believed. Jesus Great Commission to His Church is clear: Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into Heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and conf irming the Word with signs following. Amen (Mark 16:15-20). In order for this promise to come to pass, the disciples had to do something: They had to Go ye! If they had just sat at home on the couch waiting for the signs and wonders, nothing would have happened. But when they went forth in obedience to His Word, the Lord was able to work with them, and confirmed the Word with signs following. The same principle applies to us today. If we expect God to move miraculously through us, three key elements must be at work in our lives: We must 1.) Believe, 14 VOTC August 2013 cathy DUPLANTIS 2.) Obey, and 3.) Expect the impossible. When we do that, an atmosphere is created for God to move in the earth. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him (2 Chronicles 16:9). #1 Believe The Bible tells us that some people followed Jesus because of the miracle of the loaves. They wanted free food. They asked Jesus, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? ( John 6:28). They wanted miracles without the Miracle-worker and salvation without the Saviour. Jesus, as always, centered in on the real issue, which was their unbelief. Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that you believe on Him Whom He hath sent ( John 6:29). There always seems to be people From the creation of the world to the resurrection of Jesus, the Bible reveals a God that is not limited to natural ways of doing things. that miss the big picture. They focus on what God can do for them and miss out on GOD. Jesus came to the earth that we might KNOW the Father, the Creator of all things. You must seek to know God for Who He is, not just what He can do for you. Once you do, it won t be long before the miraculous will be at work in your life. Well, if believing on Jesus opens the door to the miraculous, then we know that unbelief slams it shut. That s what happened in Jesus home town. Matthew 13:54-58 (NASB) says, He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they became astonished, and said, Where did this man get this wisdom, and these miraculous powers? Is not this the carpenter s son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things? And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor except in his

hometown, and in his own household. And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief. Jesus kinfolk were astonished by His wisdom and miraculous power, but they took offense at Him. They dishonored the Anointed One of God and almost everyone in the town stayed sick because of it. Never let it be said of you that God could do no mighty work because of your unbelief. #2 Obey A miracle has been defined as a historic event or natural phenomena that violates natural laws and reveals God at the same time. From the creation of the world to the resurrection of Jesus, the Bible reveals a God that is not limited to natural ways of doing things. He moves in a much higher realm and can use whosoever He chooses to accomplish His will in the earth. Anyone that has ever been used by God in the miraculous has had to be obedient to His voice. Mary said, be it unto me according to thy word (Luke 1:38), and opened the door for the miraculous virgin birth Jesus in the earth. At the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus knelt down and prayed, nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done (Luke 22:42), and opened the door for all mankind to know the miracle of the new birth. When Paul was knocked off of his donkey, he said, Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do? (Acts 9:6), and opened the door to the miraculous to flow through his life. He never forgot that moment on the Damascus Road when he first heard the voice of God. In an instant, Paul was changed from a persecutor of the Church into a persecutor of Satan. He told King Agrippa about his heavenly vision and call to preach the Gospel. He said, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: but shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance (Acts 26:19-20). When Jesse and I answered God s call to the evangelistic ministry 35 years ago, we sought direction so we would know exactly where God wanted us to go. We were totally committed to the cause of Christ and bursting with desire to spread the Gospel that transformed our lives. We wanted only to be in His perfect will and would have gone anywhere He commanded. We knew that to be in His will was a place of peace, protection, provision, and power....he who does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:17 NKJV). We asked, Lord, where do You want us to go? He answered, GO YE! We both remembered the Great Commission that Jesus gave His disciples in Mark 16:15, Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. Excitedly we said, YES, Lord, but where? His answer was always the same, GO YE! So, that s where we began. I have to smile to myself when I think about our search for a place called YE. We encountered congregations of all 35 years of Reaching People, Changing Lives, One Soul at a Time Florida I want to thank you for all the wonderful things you re doing by sharing the Gospel of Jesus. I was in the service when you were in Miami, Florida. For months I had been suffering with severe neck and shoulder pain. During your healing prayer, I decided to claim and receive my healing. Well, you must know that I left the service with no pain and it has never been an issue again. Praise Jesus! sizes and types filled with every creature imaginable. Most were friendly. When we went to Hawaii to preach, we wanted to rename it YE. We thought, This could be the place called YE! Lord, please let this be YE! We wouldn t mind staying to reach the lost. (Someone has to do it!) Although YE was not a physical place that you could point to on a map, Jesse and I knew when we found it. It s a place that reminds us that our life is not our own, we were bought with a price. A place of total rest and assurance that God is leading us by His Spirit, even though He may choose to reveal it only a step at a time. It stands as a continual reminder that this earth is not our home; Heaven is! Like Abraham, we seek that city whose foundation and maker is God. #3 Expect Your success in serving God and fulfilling His vision for your life depends upon your obedience to His Word, boldness to relate the message, and perseverance to complete the vision. Paul persevered to finish the race that was set before him. At the end of his life of service to God, he could confidently say, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). Paul considered himself a chief of sinners before He met Jesus. He could have shrunk back from the call of God on his life, but he didn t. He believed on Jesus, obeyed the Word, and expected the miraculous power of God to flow through him. The Bible says, And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them (Acts 19:11-12). God may be calling you to do something that is impossible. The wonderful thing is that our God specializes in doing the impossible. He is looking throughout the earth to work through those that will believe, obey, and expect the impossible. Allow His power to flow through you today! a jdm.org 1 5

What is the Hundredfold? nathanael wolf You may have often seen or heard the term hundredfold in scriptural teaching and preaching, but have you ever wondered, Exactly what is the hundredfold? Is the hundredfold really 100 times a seed sown? How long does it take? How does it work? If you ve pondered questions like these, it s good that you ve wondered about the hundredfold. Socrates said, Wisdom begins in wonder. However, it s vitally important that you know the answers to your questions. Ignorance has never produced faith. Faith only and always begins where the will of God is known (Romans 10:17). The possibilities of hundredfold living cannot be purposefully experienced outside of hundredfold faith. Hundredfold faith will require that you grow in your knowledge of the hundredfold from God s Word. So, what is the hundredfold? The hundredfold is the maximum supernatural harvest on seed sown. Is the hundredfold really 100 times a seed sown? The answer is that it is AT LEAST 100 times. Let s discover why the hundredfold is the maximum supernatural harvest on seed sown and why it is at least 100 times. The hundredfold is first mentioned in Genesis 26:12: Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. There is a very important rule of Bible interpretation called, The Law of First Mention. The Law of First Mention states that the very first time any important word is mentioned in the Bible, it s given its most accurate meaning. The meaning first provided not only serves as a key in understanding the word s initial biblical concept, but also provides a foundation for its fuller development later in Scripture. There are three important concepts you can learn from the hundredfold s first mention in Scripture. First, it is at least one hundred times a seed sown. Second, it is an annual occurrence. Third, it is the result of the blessing of the Lord. Let s more closely examine each of these three concepts. First, the hundredfold is at least 100 times a seed sown. According to the Dictionary of Biblical Languages With Semantic Domains, by James A. Swanson, the Hebrew word translated in Genesis 26:12 as hundredfold can most literally mean, 100 times as much of a quantity. Not only does the Hebrew word mean 100 times as much of a quantity, but according to Rashi (a highly respected Rabbi who wrote a famous and comprehensive commentary on the Bible and the Talmud) in The Stone Edition of the Chumash, it also means His (Isaac s) crop was a hundred times as much as the expected estimate. In other words, Isaac s hundredfold harvest was not just 100 times his seed sown; it was also 100 times his estimate of the potential yield of his crop. Why was Isaac trying to estimate his potential crop yield? Rashi says, According to our Rabbis, Isaac was scrupulous to determine the quantity of his crop in order to establish how much he was required to give as tithes. The crop that Isaac most likely planted was a grain crop of barley or wheat. How does one estimate the potential yield of a wheat crop? According to the Oklahoma State University Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, wheat yield is the product of three things: the number of heads of grain per square foot; the number of kernels (grains of seed) per head; and the weight of each seed. Oklahoma wheat averages 20 to 30 grains of seed per head. However, according to the Oklahoma 4H, a head of wheat in Oklahoma can have as many as 50 grains of seed per head, given the proper conditions. Considering only this information, it may sound like one wheat seed could produce one wheat plant that would have a 20-fold to 50-fold return. However, one wheat seed can produce one plant with more than one stalk and, therefore, more than one head. According to the University of Kentucky, given the proper conditions, three to four stalks can grow in one plant and each stalk in the plant will have a head that produces grain. Therefore, one wheat seed could produce a plant that produces 60 to 200 seeds somewhere between a 60-fold and a 200-fold return. So, if Isaac were estimating his potential crop yield using this agricultural data, he may have estimated somewhere between a 60-fold and 200-fold return on his seed. But 20 VOTC August 2013

remember, according to Rashi, His (Isaac s) crop was a hundred times as much as the EXPECTED ESTIMATE. So, based on the average wheat yield information from the Universities of Oklahoma and Kentucky, if the crop yield estimates were multiplied 100 times, then Isaac would have reaped between 6,000 times and 20,000 times what he sowed. Such a large return on Isaac s seed seems impossible and unbelief will always make a case for less rather than more. As a result, some may argue that estimated wheat yields in Bible lands and times must have been far less than what we experience with our modern agricultural methods. To refute such an argument, one must understand what the estimated grain yields may have been in Bible lands and times. In The Pictorial Bible With Original Notes, published in 1856, author John Kitto D.D. writes, Herodotus tells us, the soil of Babylonia would ordinarily yield two hundred-fold of wheat or barley; and when most productive, three hundredfold Strabo (tells us) that Mesopotamia would return, barley in particularly, three hundred-fold Cinyps like Babylonia, three hundred-fold Byzacium in Africa would ordinarily yield one hundred or one hundred and fiftyfold; and had been known to yield, in Augustus s time, of wheat four hundred-fold, and in Nero s three hundred and sixty-fold Heliodorus tells us that in the island of Meroe, wheat and barley would grow high enough to cover a man mounted on a horse or camel, and yield 300 hundred-fold. In the light of such large returns, the hundredfold (if defined as merely 100 times what Isaac sowed) hardly seems remarkable. Especially in the light of the fact that Gentile nations outside of the Abrahamic covenant were experiencing crop yields much larger than a hundredfold. If a nation outside of a covenant with God were reaping 300 times to 400 times what was sown, how could a hundredfold harvest for a man in covenant with God represent the blessing of the Lord? Rashi s statement that Isaac s crop was not just 100 times Isaac s seed, but 100 times the ESTIMATED POTENTIAL YIELD of the crop answers the question. If Isaac were estimating between a 300 times and 400 times return, based on typical crop yields in Bible lands and times, then, according to Rashi, he would have reaped between 10,000 and 40,000 times what he sowed. Such an abundant harvest is indeed remarkable. Even if Dr. Kitto s information about grain yields in Bible lands and times is incorrect, Isaac receiving a harvest 100 times greater than people who were not in covenant with God is remarkable. The second important concept that can be seen from the hundrefold s first mention in Scripture is that it is an annual occurrence. Genesis 26:12 says, Isaac received in the same year an hundredfold. This is important because some may argue, Well, Isaac may have received 40,000 times what he originally sowed, but it must have been realized over a several year period. Remember, unbelief will always make a case for less. However, Genesis says, in the same year. Wheat was sown in Bible lands in the fall and was harvested in the spring. For the Jews, the harvest cycle fell in the same year because the Jewish year begins in early fall. The Jews planted their wheat near the beginning of the year and reaped the harvest about 250 days later. The same year Isaac sowed his seed he received his harvest. As the biblical concept of the hundredfold is later developed in Scripture, in order to meet with The Law of First Mention, it must continue to hold to the truth of its origin. This means that all future hundredfold harvests promised in Scripture could be expected in less than twelve months from the date that the seed was sown. The third important concept that can be seen from the hundrefold s first mention in Scripture is that the hundredfold is the result of the blessing of the Lord. The biblical concept of the hundredfold is far beyond the agricultural concept of the hundredfold. It is obviously supernatural. The biblical hundredfold isn t just 100 times; it s 100 times what someone without the blessing of God could expect to harvest and in the same year! The biblical promise of the hundredfold is like God saying, Try and estimate what you think your harvest would be. Base your estimate on the crop yields of people around you who don t even know who I AM. I will multiply that 100 times in the same year. It pays to trust and serve Me. If everyone else is getting sixty-fold, My people will get a hundredfold of that, over 6,000 times what they planted, in the same year. Like Isaac, I don t want you to have to wait for your harvest indefinitely. The hundredfold is truly beyond human reasoning, which is one reason why so few experience it. I have often heard Dr. Jesse Duplantis say, The hundredfold is greater than 100 times. We talk about it in terms of 100 times because that s what the mind can conceive, but the hundredfold is beyond human reasoning. That s how much God wants to bless you, if you ll let Him. So again, what is the hundredfold? The hundredfold is the maximum supernatural harvest on seed sown 100 times or more in the same year all resulting from the blessing of the Lord! a Nathanael Wolf is the Senior Pastor of Covenant Church (the local outreach of Jesse Duplantis Ministries in the New Orleans area) and the Director of Global Leadership Development for Jesse Duplantis Ministries. jdm.org 2 1

Impacting Future Generations With the Gospel JDM is urgently working to complete Project Legacy a vital undertaking that will impact future generations with the Gospel. This project is about preserving the Word of God preached in the joyful, dynamic way that Jesse Duplantis Ministries is known for. Our goal is to save 8,000 tapes of timeless, anointed messages and use them to evangelize the earth for generations to come. In 2006, we completed our HD upgrade a major achievement that included equipment like our HD cameras and digital tape formats. This milestone made it possible for us to digitize messages so they can continue reaching people and changing lives well into the future. But 19 years worth of soul-winning sermons on non-digital tape need to be rescued so that they too can evangelize the world until Jesus comes back. Through Project Legacy, we have an amazing opportunity to save every one of them. Today, Hollywood is buzzing trying to save and preserve well-loved TV shows like I Love Lucy, Shirley Temple, Johnny Carson, Star Trek, and more. We re on a mission to do the same thing, only our efforts are to rescue the timeless Word of God preached in relevant messages that have already proven to effectively reach the lost. Project Legacy will enable us to restore these classic sermons and put them back to work for the Kingdom. God s Word never returns void and we know that through this project, we can impact lives for generations to come! 8,000 non-digital tapes of timeless, anointed messages need to be remastered, restored, and preserved It costs $375 to completely restore and archive each tape $3 million project We are believing God for 8,000 people to sow $375 into Project Legacy Please consider sponsoring one or more of these tapes. You never know...the message you rescue could be the one that brings the next generation in your family to Christ! 24 VOTC August 2013

Finding Your Way to Deliverance jesse DUPLANTIS It s easy to look around at a dying world and shake our heads at rampant sin. But have you ever wondered why Jesus asked if there would be faith on the earth when He returns? He wasn t talking about the lost. He was referring to Christians. The sad truth is that a lot of Christians never find their way to deliverance. The kingdom of God may be in their spirit, but the world is woven into the fabric of their soul and they don t know how to get it out. The same thing happened to the Children of Israel. God delivered them out of Egypt with mighty miracles, but getting Egypt out of them took 40 years in the wilderness. A lot of Christians are wandering around in their own wilderness fulfilling the sins of the flesh. Inside the private lives of many believers is Let me give you some truth: Your biggest problem is not the devil. Your biggest problem is you. My biggest problem is me. pornography, adultery, fornication, sexual perversion, alcoholism, drug use, child abuse, and every kind of rebellion. The Church is called to be the light of the world, but how can you shine if you re living in shadows? How can you find your way to deliverance? I m glad you asked, because I m eminently qualified to answer. I had to find my way to deliverance and learn to live in it. Before I came to the Lord, I was an alcoholic. I drank a fifth of whiskey a day, and that didn t include what I drank at night. I drank enough booze to float Texas. I was also a drug addict. I smoked enough dope to pollute Louisiana. I snorted cocaine, PCP, crystal you name it, I did it. I took trips and never left home. 26 VOTC August 2013

I was a rock musician during the 60s and early 70s the anything goes age of free love. Whenever I saw a woman, I was on the hunt. I had a head full of chocolate brown hair, a pocketful of money, and drank enough booze to be sure I never saw an ugly woman. I wasn t your average, run-of-the-mill sinner. You might say that I made a profession of sin. But that was then, and this is now. Those sins don t even tempt me today. Why? I found my way to deliverance, and you can find yours, too. How do you do it? You have to find a whole new world to live in. Make a Move I m not talking about changing your identity or moving to another part of the country. I m talking about making the change from a life led by the lusts of the flesh to a Spirit-led life. The Apostle Paul wrote about it in his letter to the Galatians: I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:16-21 NKJV First of all, if you couldn t walk a Spirit-led life, God would never have told you to do it. So don t tell me you can t. You can because God doesn t lie. A lot of Christians try to get Him to help them by whining about their need. Let me make one thing perfectly clear: God is not moved by need. If He were moved by need, He d never get out of India. But that isn t how God operates. God operates by faith. Faith is what moves Him. So the first thing you need to move into a Spirit-led life is faith. There Are Many Battlefields There are many battlefields in life, but the most difficult to control is your own nature. Let me give you some truth: Your biggest problem is not the devil. Your biggest problem is you. My biggest problem is me. Think about it for a moment. You can use your spiritual authority to rebuke the devil and say, Get behind me, Satan! and he has to flee. But you can t get rid of you. You go to bed with yourself. You wake up with yourself. You live with your flesh every day. Your flesh is like white on rice. Yet the devil usually gets credited for what your flesh did. For instance, your flesh says, I m hungry. You know good and well that it isn t hungry because you just fed it. You go on a diet, and your flesh screams, Famine s coming! Store up! You wolf down a dozen doughnuts and say, The devil made me do it. The devil had nothing to do with it. Your flesh cried like a baby, and you gave it a doughnut pacifier. Then you blamed those extra ten pounds on your glands. It had nothing to do with your glands; your mouth did it! Old Voices Appear in the Garments of New Liberties Paul said that if you walk by the Spirit, you won t fulfill the lusts of the flesh. When Sunday rolls around and you want to sleep late instead of going to church, that isn t a satanic assignment; it s your stinking flesh! If you want to understand how this works, just watch your children. On Saturday morning they re out of bed before dawn chomping down a box of cereal with cartoons 35 years of Reaching People, Changing Lives, One Soul at a Time Indiana I thank God for your ministry! I was saved about twelve years ago. I was not brought up in church but my husband was, and through his guidance came my salvation. Glory to God! I want to let Jesse Duplantis Ministries know that my faith walk through the Word and through your projects Go Ye and Publish the Word has prospered. I was listening to Jesse s CD, How to Handle Trouble in this Life. When this CD was done, I was on my knees in my living room thanking God for how great He is! Jesse and Cathy are great vessels that continually put my walk with the Lord in perspective as to how gracious our Father is. Thank you and God bless all in this ministry. jdm.org 2 7

blaring. Come Sunday morning, though, you have to drag them out of bed with a rope. You see, old voices are always appearing in the garments of new liberties. God gives you liberty, but sometimes you use that liberty to indulge the flesh. It happens like this: You wake up determined to live by the Sprit. You read your Bible and pray before dressing for work. You get out of the house without getting into a fight with your spouse. Coffee in hand, you walk out to the garage and start your car with a contented sigh. It s going to be a good day. Backing out of the driveway, you run over the brand new $150 bicycle you bought for your kid s birthday. You told him not to leave it in the driveway. Storming back in the house you think, If I kill him, I ll just make another one. That old voice is trying to mess with your new liberty. Before your coffee gets cold, you re fulfilling the lusts of the flesh instead of walking in the Spirit. Adults and tantrum-throwing toddlers aren t the only ones who get caught in this snare. This is also a problem for young people. They re always asking me, Brother Jesse, who should I marry? I don t know who they should marry, but I m always honest with them. The Bible says that a believer has no business with an unbeliever. Well, I I know he s an unbeliever, but I m gonna get him saved. Your mama! You can t save anyone; it takes God to save a soul. I ll bring him to church, and then he ll get saved. I ll tell you exactly what will happen. He ll pull you into sin. You have an emotional attachment, and those eyes of his are going to suck you up and spit you out. I had a friend who used to judge overweight women very harshly. He said all sorts of cruel things about them and hurt women s feelings. What s wrong with you? I asked. Are you crazy? Stop talking that way. I just don t see how anyone could ever date a fat girl! he insisted. You d better watch it, I warned. But he refused to watch it. He used old voices with new liberty. Can you guess what happened to him? He fell in love with a three hundred pound woman. She s big, I said. Jesse, I love every roll. I just can t help myself. They re still married, and he is crazy about her. You used to look at a woman through the eyes of lust, I told him, but then you fell in love. Love is more concerned with the inside of a person than the outside. 28 VOTC August He s an old devil and he doesn t have any new tricks. He uses the same ones over and over, so it s important that you learn to beware his methods. That may be true, Brother Jesse, one young person told me, but I want a beautiful exterior, too. That s fine, but let me make an announcement: Someday it s all going south. That s a fact. If she s beautiful today, take a picture because it s going south. And so are you. If you re single, the best way to find your mate is to walk in the Spirit instead of the flesh. Ascend to a Higher Atmosphere If you re wrestling with a vicious habit, don t try to break it. Does that shock you? Let me explain: If you wrestle with a habit, you re staying on the level of that habit. You re focusing your attention on the habit. You re thinking about the habit. You will never get free of a habit if you spend all your time focused on it. Never wrestle with a vicious habit, just ascend to a higher level and get into a different atmosphere. When you ascend higher, that habit can t follow you and you become free. If you re having a problem with smoking, get to a place with so much oxygen that you ll blow up if you light up. Find yourself a different spiritual environment. You don t understand, someone said. I can feel those cigarettes pulling on me. Then move out of their reach. Go higher. Go higher in praise. Go higher in the Word of God. Move higher in your faith. I can promise you, it works! You don t like the way your body looks? Change it. But buying a DVD to watch while you lay on the sofa won t do it. Buying exercise equipment won t help if you aren t going to discipline yourself to use it. And don t buy the lie that your abdominals will look like the guy on television in only 15 minutes a day. It s going to take a lot of dieting, a lot of weight lifting, and a lot of sweat. It s going to take dedication, commitment, and pain. I don t care how old you get or how out of shape you are, you can get yourself fit again. You don t understand, Brother Jesse. The fat s in my genes. Yeah, well, it s outside the jeans, too! That means you re going to have to work. Beware of Satan s Methods Satan knows that we humans trip over our own flesh, and he has ways to help us stumble. You ve got to understand something about Satan, he s an old devil and he doesn t have any new tricks. He uses the same ones over and over, so it s important that you learn to beware

his methods. His most common method is called repression. An example of this happened one time when a man said to me, Brother Jesse, I ve been sexually molested. When did it happen? I asked. When I was five years old. How old are you now? I wondered. I m sixty. For 55 years that man repressed what happened to him. Repression is one of the devil s best tactics. You stuff the pain in some corner of your soul where you never have to look at it. But repression is like a caged tiger: sooner or later it s going to leap out at you and kill you if possible. Repression is no more than ignoring a problem. If you were hit by a tractor and broke your leg, you wouldn t pretend it never happened. You d probably get an x-ray and put it in a cast. At the very least, you d pray for God to heal it. The same thing needs to happen to a broken soul. Bring that pain out into the light and ask God to heal it. If His Word can penetrate between the marrow and the bone, it can heal a wounded soul. Allow the grace and mercy of God to wash every shred of the shame from 35 years of Reaching People, Changing Lives, One Soul at a Time Virginia I would like to thank everyone at JDM for all your prayers. The doctors told me that I had stage four cancer in my liver and colon and that I wouldn t live. Well, thanks to God and your prayers, I have been healed and free of cancer for a month now. The doctors have released me with no more chemo. I just wanted to Praise the Lord and thank you all. New Mexico Thank you all so much for praying with me. I have finished my nursing school and the Lord Jesus has blessed me with a great high-paying job on the Navajo Reservation. I have also prayed for many people and share who Jesus is and how my life has been changed through your ministry. I became born again at the age of twenty-one during a plan of suicide. I walked into a revival. Soon after I saw you on TBN and never stopped watching you. I encourage my beloved Native people to watch you. Thanks! your life. Falling into the trap of repression is like saying, God, I know this is too tough for You to heal, so I ll just stuff it. There is nothing that God won t heal if we lift it up to Him. Once He s touched and healed that brokenness, follow the Apostle Paul s advice: Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14 NKJV). In other words, don t live in the past or you won t be able to see your future. Another method the devil uses is to get you to struggle. He ll convince you to struggle with a habit, a problem, a wound, or a memory. Struggling feeds the problem, your power, and your passion. It moves the solution out of the realm of the Spirit and into the realm of your flesh. Satan knows if he can fight on the battlefield of your flesh, he will win. Some people spend years with a therapist struggling over the past successful attacks of the enemy. They struggle, struggle, and struggle some more to overcome. In doing so, they forget the way God said we would overcome: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death (Revelation 12:11 NKJV). Instead of struggling, lift the problem to God and ask Him to deliver you from the hand of the enemy. Then apply the blood of Jesus to that part of your soul and confess with your mouth that you are free. In Luke 4:18, Jesus said that He d come to heal the brokenhearted. He is still in the healing business today. The Daily Discipline of Obedience Stops the Evil Power of Appeal One of the things I learned when I was finding my own way to deliverance was that the daily discipline of obedience stops the evil power of appeal. I crucify my flesh daily, not just on Sunday. I do it daily because I realize that no matter how old or young you are, the flesh likes the power of appeal. I ve seen a 90-year-old man sitting in a wheelchair drooling until a foxy woman walked by. Next thing you know, spit s flying, Turn me around so I can look at her! I said, Shut up, you old fool! That evil power of appeal never dies until the flesh is crucified, regardless of age. When those things try to rise up in me, I say, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus! I am the leader of this house and my spirit, through a renewed mind, will control this body! That makes an intolerable burden become a happy privilege. I ll never forget the first time Cathy and I went to New York City. She ducked inside a store for film, and jdm.org 2 9

I waited for her on the sidewalk in broad daylight. I was awestruck looking at the Radio City Music Hall when a young girl around 20 years old came up and said, Hi. I m a friendly man and I said, Hello. Is this your first time in New York City? she asked. Yes, it is, I said. Would you like to have some fun? Ma am, I m having fun. This is a great place. I can show you some fun, she offered. Really? Where? Cathy was looking out the window, saying, He s stupid, somebody get him. I was born again and living in a whole new world. I didn t look at her and see a sex object to be conquered. She finally said something that left no question in my mind about what she was suggesting. Girl, you need to move to a new world. What? she asked. I ve got something that will get you on a high like you ve never known, I offered. Really? she asked, obviously excited. Yeah, it s Jesus. She took off running down the street. 35 years of Reaching People, Changing Lives, One Soul at a Time Facebook I want to say how much of an inspiration Jesse Duplantis Ministries is to me. I am a recovering alcoholic/addict with three years of sobriety. I recently was laid off from my job and I m dealing with a few struggles, but I have no worries today because God has a plan and as long as I do the footwork He will handle the rest. Thank you so much for your words. It s amazing how much gratitude I feel today. Cathy came outside and grabbed my arm. Come here, she ordered, I m not leaving you by yourself anymore. Now I could have swaggered and said, Hey, Mama, get down with your bad self cause I still got it! But that would have been allowing the flesh to rule. I let the Spirit rule, and that obedience stops the evil power of appeal. If you ll apply what I m telling you, you can miss out on a lot of hurt in your life. You can move to a whole new world and never change your surroundings. When you 30 VOTC August 2013 When you crucify the flesh and live by the Spirit, you ll find that what s in you is greater than what is in the world. ascend to a higher place and discipline your flesh, you can step into your destiny. Don t Frustrate the Grace of God The Apostle Paul taught extensively on the Spirit-led life. One of the keys to living by the Spirit is found in Galatians 2:20: I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. The key to refusing to frustrate the grace of God is to crucify the flesh. This kind of crucifixion isn t something that happens once and for all time. You can crucify your stinking flesh one day, and it ll rear up in its coffin and follow you the next. Flesh is something that you have to crucify daily for as long as you live. When you crucify the flesh and live by the Spirit, you ll find that what s in you is greater than what is in the world. That s why I constantly keep my flesh under the control of my spirit. Some days that s harder to do than others. One time, for instance, Cathy was mad at me about something and she wanted to argue. I will not argue with you today, I said. I ll tell you one thing, you white-headed old man. I will not argue with you today. Do you know what you said? No, I don t, but I suspect you re going to tell me. But I m telling you, I will not argue with you today. I m going to have a fine day. Is there anything I can do for you? Yeah, you can just sit back and let me tell you something. Say what you re gonna say, but it will go right over my head. I m not going to argue with you today. I m a dead man I ve been crucified with Christ. I m not even alive, so how could I argue? This is stupid. Jesse, I m sorry. About what? I asked. And it all started again. No, don t tell me, I said. I know I m probably wrong and I ll repent, but I won t argue with you today. I ve told Cathy before, I don t care how bumpy you get, you just be you, Mama, and that s fine with me. I m satisfied. I understand that women are always fighting their weight, because I m always fighting mine. I ve lost the same 20 pounds a hundred times. I remember one time I was sitting on the couch and Cathy said, Want some ice cream?

No, I replied. I ll eat some if you eat some, she bribed. Well, I don t really want any. A while later she asked again. Want some ice cream? Cathy, if you want some ice cream, go get some ice cream. You just want me to eat some so you won t feel guilty. Vroom! She was out the door. My wife loves ice cream. She bought a pint for herself and a pint for me. She ate her whole pint, but I just ate a little of mine before putting it back in the freezer. The next day I went to preach a meeting and when I came home, my ice cream was gone. Where s my ice cream? I asked. A thief came in and stole it, she explained. Was the thief named Cathy? I knew you wouldn t mind. Cathy was right, I didn t mind. I said, Cathy, have I ever pressured you about your body? Have I pressured you to lose weight or gain weight? Never, Cathy said, and I thank you for that. I want you to know that I never will, I said. We are connected spirit, soul, and body. We are one until Jesus comes. You never have to worry. I promise you I will never become a stupid, old, foolish man who wants to trade in his 60 year old wife for a 30 year old. I can make that promise because it s the truth. I love Cathy for who she is, just like I love Jesus for Who He is. I love being saved, so living a crucified life is not an intolerable burden; it s a happy privilege. Not just for me, but also for the generations to come. I find the closer I draw to God, the less of the world is in my life. My whole concept of looking and thinking and understanding is totally different today than when I didn t know the Lord. One of the greatest things about living a Spirit-led life is that I know I ve won the battle of life. Think about it for a minute: If you and your spouse hadn t met Jesus, everything that hit you would hit your children. But because you submitted your life in obedience to Him, you shut down the attack on you and your children. In other words, crucifying the flesh and living by the power of the Spirit allows you to win the battle for the generations. How did I win the battle of life? I did it by lifting a hand and asking Jesus to come into my life. I did it by ascending to a higher level. I did it by crucifying the flesh and living in obedience to the Spirit of God. I did it by living a life of integrity, one small decision at a time. I found my way to deliverance and you can find your way, too. a Jesus wants to deliver you and help you live higher Friend, if you are struggling and battling through a difficult time in your life, I want to tell you that Jesus is your answer. Maybe you already know the Lord, but temptations are getting the best of you. God loves you so much and He wants to set you free of anything and everything that could be holding you back. I would be honored if you would allow me to bring you to the Greatest Friend you ll ever have. As you say these words, if you will believe them with your heart, you will be born again and made right in your relationship with the Father. Say this prayer: Jesus, come into my life. Forgive me of all my sins. I ask You to cleanse my heart, and make me a new person in You right now. I believe that You are the Son of God and that You died on the cross for me. Jesus, I want to thank You for loving me enough to die for me. I accept all that Your shed blood bought for me on the cross, and I receive You as my Savior and Lord. In Your name I pray, Amen. If you just prayed this prayer, congratulations! You are a new creature in Christ and, as 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. All of Heaven is celebrating! Your slate has been made clean and now, with Jesus, you are empowered and equipped to live a life of joy and victory. If you prayed this prayer, it is important that you tell someone. I would love to hear from you, too! You can use order form enclosed with this magazine or go online at jdm.org to contact me. I would also like to send you a free copy of our booklet entitled, Understanding Salvation. Just let me know if you would like the English or Spanish version. Remember, Christ is thinking about you and He wants the best for you. God bless you! Jesse jdm.org 3 1
