3 We Confess Our Sin (in unison) If love is patient, why are we irritable? If love is kind, why are we hostile? If love is not jealous or boastful, why do we flaunt our achievements in the presence of others? O God, in Jesus you have shown love which forgives imperfection; only in him can we forsake childish ways. Forgive our lack of love, and have mercy on us. Amen. Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy. 7 But the LORD said to me, Do not say, I am only a boy ; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD. 9 Then the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the LORD said to me, Now I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant. Luke 4: Then he began to say to them, Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. 22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, Is not this Joseph s son? 23 He said to them, Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, Doctor, cure yourself! And you will say, Do here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capernaum. 24 And he said, Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet s hometown. 25 But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a severe famine over all the land; 26 Yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow of Zarephath in Sidon. 27 There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian. When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage. 29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff. 30 But he passed through the midst of them and went on his way. 4

Beverly Bullock *Reflective Hymn "Steal Away" Pg. 527 WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD *We Affirm Our Faith - The Apostle s Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of the People (in unison) Guardians of our lives, take to your bosom those whose journeys are perilous, who venture for a time through uncertain terrain. Embrace them and lead them with your comforting presence. As Christ, who walked the bitter path to Calvary guides them, may their travail give birth to new life, nurtured by hope. When risk is certain, we pray for those who fear taking steps of faith. Grant them courage to embark on new paths of discipleship, with sufficient discipline to follow your will. Place their feet on the firm foundation of your eternal faithfulness, and help them trust your promises. We pray this in the name of our Savior, who taught us to pray: Our Father Who Art In Heaven 5

For the wonder and goodness of Creation, for so bountifully providing for our needs, for staying with us though we turn away from you, and, in your abounding mercy, for seeking to restore us in our brokenness to your wonderful image. Loving Jesus, our Redeemer, we give you thanks... For your servant s life of preaching, teaching and healing and for your atoning sacrifice on the Cross which has both restored our relationship with our Creator and broken the power of sin to control our lives. Holy Spirit, who sustains us moment by moment, we give you thanks... For your transforming presence which creates unity from our diversity and makes us one with the living God, we worship in Jesus Christ. Prepare us to be faithful disciples, modeling Jesus love, humility, obedience, and concern for justice for a world in need. O Lord, as the Body of Christ, bearers of Good News and God s ambassadors of reconciliation, we now lift up to you the thanksgivings and concerns we ve shared today and these personal requests for your merciful and powerful intervention [each prays in silence]...and now we pray the prayer which Jesus taught, saying... Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. SUNDAY SCHOOL---We offer engaging classes each Sunday for all ages beginning at 9:45 am. Children, youth and one adult class meet on the second floor of the Educational Building, and another adult class meets downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. Join us for coffee in the kitchen before and after class! NURSERY & JUNIOR CHURCH---During the worship service, we provide loving child care for infants and toddlers. Children ages pre-k through 1 st grade are invited to join their parents in the service through the Time with Children after which they can follow their leaders to a worship-based activity appropriate for their age.
