If you are visiting with us, we thank God you are here and pray our worship together will be a mutual blessing. If you are looking for a church home, we hope Abiding Savior can meet your needs. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Pastor: Hosanna to the King of Israel! Hosanna in the highest! Pastor: Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Women: Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Pastor: Behold, your King comes to you, O Zion. Men: Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Pastor: Brothers and Sisters in Christ, during Lent we have prepared in quiet worship and devotion for the celebration of our Lord s death and resurrection. Today we come together to begin this solemn celebration in union with the whole Church throughout the world. Christ enters His own city to complete His work as our Savior: to suffer, to die, and to rise again. Let us go with Him by faith in love, so that, united with Him in His sufferings, we may share in His risen life. Worshippers are invited to hold up the palms they received upon entering the church. 2

3 Pastor: Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as Messiah to suffer and to die, let these palms be for us signs of victory and majesty. Grant that all of us who bear them in the name of Jesus hail Him as our King, and follow Him always in the way that leads to eternal life through Him who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him. 5 THE EPISTLE READING PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. OHN 12:20-43 JOHN THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, Sir, we wish to see Jesus. Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. And Jesus answered them, The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name. Then a voice came from heaven: I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again. The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. 6 How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man? So Jesus said to them, The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light. When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them. Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him. Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God. TOM ROGERS APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. Keep us firm in the true faith throughout our days of pilgrimage that, on the day of His coming, we may, together with all Your saints, celebrate the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom which has no end; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. THE BENEDICTION Pastor: May Christ crucified draw you to Himself, to find in Him a sure ground for faith, a firm support for hope, and the assurance of sins forgiven. 14 Abiding Savior Annual Easter Egg Hunt Next Saturday, April 15 th at 10am Bring your camera and kids to meet the Easter bunny and hunt for eggs in the new gym. Hunting for eggs will be divided by age group. The egg hunt will be open for children through age 9. Parents can hunt with the little ones. Face Painting & Crafts too! Don t miss the fun! 14

15 For Easter Sunday Reserve your plant now for only $10.00! Simply place a check in the offering plate specified, Easter Lily. You may pick up your plant after the 11:00 Easter Service. Youth Group Sponsors Easter Breakfast We will be serving Easter Breakfast after the 6:30, 8:00 and 9:30 services. On the menu are pancakes, eggs, sausage, hash browns, coffee and juice. We will be selling tickets after services on the Sundays leading up to Easter. The cost is $5 per plate, $3 per plate for children 10 and under, 2 and under eat free. Get your tickets ahead as the cost at the door will be $7 per plate. All proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the high school youth group trip to the National Youth Gathering in 2019 in Minneapolis. Rock of Aging meets this coming Tuesday, April 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Adult Education Room. This ministry to seniors includes perhaps a ride to church on Sunday, a phone or home visit, or just keeping company with a senior. Call for more info. 15

Confirmation and graduation are right around the corner! Abiding Savior School Student Success Center needs cake decorating items. If you can donate cake mix, powdered sugar, butter, Crisco or Lazy Susans, please bring your items to the school office between services on Sunday or to the church office during the week. Thank you. Health Ministry Cured Meat and Asthma If you have asthma, consider cutting back on cured meat such as sausage. In a study of 971 adults with the condition, those who ate cured meat four or more times per week were 76% more likely to have more severe symptoms over 7 years, compared with those who consumed such meat infrequently. 16

17 Prayer Ministry Is prayer an important part of your life, or would you like it to be? Then here is a ministry opportunity for you. You are invited to join your fellow Christians in a Prayer Group which is meeting weekly, continuing this coming Monday, April 10 th at 10:00 a.m. in the Adult Education Room. Eloquence is not required, only a selfless desire to intercede on behalf of others. Students, 1 st through 8 th grades, do you sing or play a contemporary instrument? Would you like to lead worship and be in a band with your friends? Then be sure to save the dates for this year s Worship Music Camp taking place from June 19 th through the 23 rd from 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. The cost of camp will be $110 per student for the week! We are also looking for Adult and High School age volunteers who would like to join us in running the camp. All About LWML Mites Lutheran Women s Missionary League Mite Boxes are used to further God s kingdom through the mission grants. Its name comes from the lesson of the widow s mite. Mite Boxes are available in the Narthex by both entrances. Place your Mite Box in an obvious place so you can feed it. Return your filled Mite Box to the large box in the Narthex and exchange it for an empty box and start filling again! As we continue to support Mite Box projects, may God bless our efforts to spread Jesus love here and throughout the world. 17
