2 From the Pastor s Desk Rev. Vance Polley 25 th Anniversary of the Dedication of our Church Building on September 25! A Single Worship Service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 25 th Everyone Together in Worship and a Celebratory Luncheon in the Fellowship Hall Twenty-five years is a milestone! It is a time for celebration and a time to look ahead. Your Session has been considering what the next twenty-five years hold in store. Laying a solid foundation for future ministry and mission outreach is the first step. As part of the September 25 th celebration, there will be a presentation to the congregation. It will provide an overview of how our church finances are structured, the particular roles and purposes of our investments, operating budget, and mission giving. One of the realizations driving these plans is the fact that we will be retiring our church mortgage in four years (as of 2017). This is a remarkable financial opportunity for us, and your Session and the Long Term Investment Committee are committed to planning wisely for this transition. The goal is to lay the appropriate groundwork for maintaining our buildings (and ministry presence) on this barrier island, while freeing the congregation to pursue new and exciting ministry opportunities. On September 25 th, we will briefly present A Financial Overview and Road Map into the Future. You will learn about: The Hope Fund Creation and Purpose The Highway Fund Creation and Purpose The Mortgage Being Retired (in 4 years as of 2017) Paying off Our Line of Credit (1.5 years) An Escrow Account for Capital Projects 25 th Anniversary Campaign to Support A Financial Plan Putting in place plans to maintain our facility long term is essential. As the church building ages, its maintenance needs will only increase. Anticipating these needs, the Session has developed a financial plan to meet our immediate needs and lay the groundwork for sustaining our buildings. This has involved reviewing all of our investments (and the best way to sustain them), the physical needs of all of our buildings (the 25-year-old church building and the 32- year-old manse), and the best long-term approach for maintaining them. The guiding-principle is to be proactive rather than reactive. The goal is to increase the availability of funds for ministry and mission through prudent planning. The 25 th Anniversary Campaign is envisioned as a supplement to our regular operating budget that can underwrite the repainting of the church building, fund deferred maintenance and renovations on the manse, and launch a long-dreamed of ministry at Sunrise The Stephen Ministry. The 25 th Anniversary Campaign is designed as a three-year supplement to our regular stewardship that will support our road map into the future. Please plan to participate in this important and exciting Sunday at Sunrise. It will be a wonderful celebration and an inspiring vision of our future. 3 Family Ministries Laurie Snyder, Director of Family Ministries Rally%Day%Re(lections Connect %is%our%theme%this%year%in%christian%education,%and%connect%is%just%what%we%did%on%rally%day.%%what%a% very%special%treat%to%have%matthew%parker%play%chopin s% Barcarolle %during%worship.%%matthew%told%us%that% like%poetry,%the% Barcarolle %is%a%piece%that%connects%water%to%the%depths%of%one s%soul.%%our%souls%were%able%to% connect%deeper%and%closer%to%god%as%matthew%so%passionately%played%this%piece. We%connected%with%each%other%in%fellowship,%as%we%enjoyed%a%most%delicious%breakfast.%%What%a%feast!%%Did%I% mention%that%it%was%a%most%delicious%breakfast?%thank%you%to%all%the%hands%who%helped%cook,%setsup,%cleans up,%and%decorate%for%this%event.%%% We%continued%to%connect%with%each%other%and%to%Sunrise%church%as%we%attended%the%Sunday%school%open% houses,%met%the%teachers,%and%said%hello%to%our%friends%in%our%classes.%sunrise%is%blessed%to%have%such%faithful% and%loving%teachers.%%teachers,%thank%you%for%your%dedication%and%passion%in%sharing%god s%word%and%the% love%of%jesus%with%your%students. Youth%Group%also%started%back%on%Rally%Day,%with%Andy%Whit(ield%leading%a%discussion%on%the%Parable%of%the% Prodigal%Son%and%exploring%the%topic%of%forgiveness. On%Rally%Day%Sunday%we%began%making%a%Sunrise% Connect %banner.%%please%stop%by%the%fellowship%hall%over% the%next%few%weeks%and%add%to%this%banner add%a%picture%from%the%table%that% speaks%to%you, %a%favorite% scripture,%or%a%note%that%you%feel%connects%you%with%god,%each%other,%our%church,%our%community,%or%the%world. Yes,%Rally%Day%was%a%lot%of%fun%and%a%great%way%to%kickSoff%the%new%year%in%Christian%Education.%%I%invite%all%of% you%to%join%me%throughout%the%year%as%we%continue%to% connect! I#give#you#a#new#commandment,#that#you#love#one#another.##Just#as#I#have#loved#you,#you#also#should#love#one# another. ##John#13:34>35 The#Connections#Class,#Adult%Sunday%School%Class What%does%it%mean%to%belong%to%the%Family%of%God?%% Parents%are%the%primary%faith%educators%of%their%children% %are%we%equipped?% How%can%I%make%time%for%God%with%all%the%things%I%have%to%do? How%can%I%better%live%into%discipleship?
