Opening Acclamation The Opening Acclamation is adapted from The Book of Common Prayer, p Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And blessed be God s kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Collect for Purity People and Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Savior. Amen. Gloria in Excelsis Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God s people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, -4-

we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. The Collect of the Day The Collect of the Day is adapted from The Book of Common Prayer, p Silence May God be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. O God, you declare your almighty power chiefly in showing compassion and empathy: Grant us the fullness of your grace, that we, running to obtain your promises, may become partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. A Reading from Amos [6:1a, 4-7] Alas for those who are at ease in Zion, and for those who feel secure on Mount Samaria. Alas for those who lie on beds of ivory, and lounge on their couches, and eat lambs from the flock, and calves from the stall; who sing idle songs to the sound of the harp, Please be seated. and like David improvise on instruments of music; who drink wine from bowls, and anoint themselves with the finest oils, but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph! Therefore they shall now be the first to go into exile, and the revelry of the loungers shall pass away. Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to God s People. Thanks be to God. -5-

Psalm Hallelujah! I will praise the Holy One with my whole heart; * I will praise God my whole life long; I will sing praises as long as I live. 2 Put not your trust in rulers, nor in any child of the earth, * for they cannot deliver you. 3 When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, * and in that day their thoughts shall perish. 4 Blessed are those who have God for their help, * whose hope is in the Living God. -6- The Psalm is read responsively by whole verse. 5 God made the heavens and the earth, the seas, and all that is in them; * God s faithfulness endures for ever. 6 God gives justice to those who are oppressed * and food to those who hunger. 7 God sets the prisoners free and opens the eyes of the blind; * God comforts those who are burdened with care. 8 God loves the just and cares for the stranger; * God sustains the widowed and orphaned but confounds the way of the wicked. 9 The Holy One abides for ever, * the Living God, from age to age. Hallelujah! A Reading from the Continuing Revelation of God [Kathleen Norris, The Cloister Walk] Working with children on the writing of poetry has led me to ponder the ways that most of us become exiled from the certainties of childhood; how it is that the things we most treasure when we re young are exactly those things we come to spurn as teenagers and young adults. Very small children are often conscious of God, for example, in ways that adults seldom are. They sing to God, they talk to God, they recognize divine presence in the world around them: they can see the Virgin Mary dancing among the clouds, they know that God made a deep ravine by their house because he was angry when people would not love him, they believe that an overnight snowfall is just like Jesus glowing on the mountaintop. Yet these budding theologians often despise church by the time they re in eighth grade. In a similar way, the children who un-selfconsciously make up songs and poems when they re young I once observed a three-year old singing a passionate ode to the colorful vegetables in a supermarket quickly come to regard poetry as meaningless and irrelevant. I began to despise mathematics when I sensed that I was getting only part of the story, a dull, literal-minded version of what in

fact was a great mystery, and I wonder if children don t begin to reject poetry and religion for similar reasons, because the way both are taught takes the life out of them. If we teach children when they re young to reject their epiphanies, then it s no wonder that we end up with so many adults who are mathematically, poetically, and theologically illiterate. Reader: Sequence Music Hear what the Spirit is saying to God s People. Thanks be to God. A Reading from the Holy Gospel [Luke 16:19-31] Deacon: Diácono: Pueblo: The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, O Christ. Santo Evangelio de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo, según Lucas. Gloria a ti, Cristo! Jesus said, There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. He called out, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames. But Abraham said, Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like Please stand, as you are able. manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony. Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us. He said, Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father s house-- for I have five brothers-- that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment. Abraham replied, They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them. He said, No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent. He said to him, If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead. Deacon: Diácono: Pueblo: The Gospel of Jesus Christ. 8 The Sermon A period of silence follows the Sermon, marked with meditation bell. The Nicene Creed Please be seated. Preacher: The Rev. Steve Keplinger Please stand, as you are able. The Nicene Creed is a historical statement of faith used by the early Christian community to define orthodoxy. Please join us as you feel called. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. -8-

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Filioque (Latin for and the son ), the dogmatic formula expressing the double procession of the Holy Spirit, was added to the Nicene Creed by the Western church. The Prayers of the People Parish intercessions appear on page 37. The Prayers of the People were adapted by The Rev. Claudia Heath from prayers written by Canon Susanne Watson of New Song Episcopal Church in the diocese of Iowa. Each prayer is read by a different member of the congregation. Please feel free to participate by reading a prayer. If multiple readers pick up the prayer, feel free to read together. Leader: God of all that is good, in Scripture you give us your vision for the world. In love you give us your grace. In wisdom you give us each other. Through the vision of the Holy Spirit, we learn that your very hope is that we be your presence, your power, and your Body in the world. For this, we give you thanks and, as one body, offer ourselves and each other as we pray. We pray for every church in every place and for every community of faith throughout the world where love is proclaimed as the core of our lives and our living. This week we pray for the victims killed or injured in the suicide attack on All Saints Church in Pakistan as people were leaving to receive a free food distribution. (The people may add their own prayers silently or aloud.) God who unites us all, Bless your holy people. Leader: Grant us, O Lover of Souls, the grace and wisdom to use new maps when you light up different roads to follow. Help us claim the power of faith shared in community and the gifts that we can use to fulfill the vision of ministry and mission you set before us. This week we give thanks for the Christina-Taylor Green Memorial Foundation and their donations of $166,000 for local children s arts, athletics, and academics. God of all holy people, Help us remember the promises we made at our baptisms. Leader: God of Justice and Truth, we pray for our nation. Teach us humility, open our hearts to those who are different, give us compassion and understanding, forgive us our sins and restore us to health. May all of us learn from the relatedness of God how to live in love for each other. This week we pray for swift Congressional consideration of a comprehensive immigration bill, in light of the increase in border deaths as migration routes shift to southern Texas. (People add their own prayers silently or aloud.) -9-

God who calls us to Justice and forgives us, Open our hearts to receive your truth. Leader: Help us reach out to the world, seeing the beauty of your gifts as well as the urgency of need in all we serve. Show us how to live so that we do not exploit your world or your people in it. This week we pray for the people of Nairobi, Kenya, suffering from the tragic shootings in the Westgate shopping mall. (People may add their own prayers silently or aloud.) God who makes power of powerlessness, Make us channels of justice and peace. Leader: We pray for those who suffer and for their caregivers and companions. Bless those in our midst who are tired or hurting and those who trust us to pray for them. This week we especially remember the people of Pakistan killed and injured in Wednesday s powerful earthquake. We pray for all on our prayer list * as well as those we name now. (The people add their own prayers silently or aloud.) God who enfolds us in your own wounds, Open our hearts to know the healing power of your love. Leader: We pray for those who have died, especially Clif Click and Jim Farley. May we know the presence of that cloud of witnesses around us as we seek to be your people. Bless all those who mourn and those who, in their grief, know the sure and certain promise of eternal life in you. (People may add their own prayers silently or aloud.) God of forever and from before time, We praise you for the wonder of eternal life. Leader: God of Joy and Companionship, we thank you for the blessings and surprises of life. 11 God of all blessings, We give you heartfelt thanks and praise. Silence The Collect after the Prayers of the People is adapted from the Vanderbilt Divinity Library. Holy God, you reach out in love through Jesus Christ to save us so that we may live as faithful servants of you alone. Unchain us from our desire for wealth and power so that we may, in turn, release others from the prisons of poverty, hunger, and oppression. Amen. Confession of Sin The Confession of Sin is from The Book of Common Prayer, p Deacon: Let us confess our sins against God, our neighbors, and God s creation. Silence All: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The Peace May the Peace of God be with you. And also with you. Meditation bell will bring us back to silence. Blessing of the Quilts and Quilters Adapted from a prayer by Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, Iowa. Gracious God, we give thanks for the variety of gifts that comprise these quilts and the effort that goes into creating them. We celebrate generosity. -11-

We give thanks for the fellowship of all who work together to make the quilts and their care for those who receive them. We celebrate community. We pray that these quilts will serve a useful purpose in the life of the recipient. May it be a step in recovering one s life and a message of care from someone they may never meet. We celebrate hope in the midst of life s trials. We remember those who have received our quilts in the past and pray that their lives have reached stability. We celebrate the gift of life. Bless all who give and all who receive, as we are sewn together in the unity of your Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. 13 The Great Thanksgiving God is with us. God is present here. Rejoice! Lift up your hearts. We lift our hearts to the Most High. Let us give thanks to the Holy One. It is right to offer thanks and praise. Eucharistic Prayer A is adapted for inclusive language from The Book of Common Prayer, p It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Creator God, maker of heaven and earth. For by water and the Holy Spirit you have made us a new people in Jesus Christ, to show forth your glory in all the world. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever say this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Celebrant and Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Please stand or kneel, as you are able. Holy and gracious One: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Maker of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. At the following words concerning the bread, the Celebrant is to hold it, or lay a hand upon it; and at the words concerning the cup, to hold or place a hand upon the cup and any other vessel containing the wine to be consecrated. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. -13-

Deacon: Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O God, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with Paul, Sergius, Lancelot Andrewes, Wilson Carlile, Vincent de Paul, Thomas Traherne, Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton, Margery Kempe, Michael and all Angels, * and all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Creator, now and for ever. AMEN. * Sergius was Abbot of Holy Trinity in Moscow in the 14th century. He is the patron saint of Russia and a national hero. He is known to Anglicans through the Fellowship of St. Alban and St. Sergius, established to promote closer relations between the Anglican and Russian Orthodox churches. Lancelot Andrewes was the favorite preacher of King James I. He was the author of many eloquent sermons still read today, and was a respected Bishop of Winchester. Wilson Carlile was a priest in England at the turn of the 20th century who concentrated on serving the poor in the slums of London. He established the Church Army, an organization dedicated to the proclamation of the Gospel to the least of society. Vincent de Paul was a 17th-century French priest who devoted himself to theological education for clergy, establishing seminaries, working among the poor, and establishing institutions to aid the sick, orphans, and prisoners. Thomas Traherne was one of the 17 th century s most searching, inventive poets and theologians. He was dubbed by Samuel Johnson one of the Metaphysical Poets. Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton, and Margery Kempe were 14th-century figures who became three of the more prominent individuals associated with Christian mysticism in the Church of England. Michael is one of the four angels spoken of by name in the Bible. He is the powerful agent of God who wards off evil from God s people and delivers peace to them. -14-

Abraham replied, They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them. He said, No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent. He said to him, If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead. Please be seated. Preacher: The Rev. Steve Keplinger Please stand, as you are able. The Affirmation of Faith is from All Desires Known by Janet Morley. -24-

We commit ourselves to cherish your world, and to seek your face. O God, embodied in a human life, we believe and trust in you. Jesus our brother, born of the woman Mary, you confronted the proud and the powerful, and welcomed as your friends those of no account. Holy wisdom of God, firstborn of creation, you emptied yourself of power, and became foolishness for our sake. You labored with us upon the cross, and have brought us forth to the hope of resurrection. We commit ourselves to struggle against evil and to choose life. O God, life-giving Spirit, Spirit of healing and comfort, of integrity and truth, we believe and trust in you. Warm-winged Spirit, brooding over creation, rushing wind and Pentecostal fire, we commit ourselves to work with you and renew our world. Amen. -25-

(People add their own prayers silently or aloud.) God who calls us to Justice and forgives us, Open our hearts to receive your truth. 27 (The people add their own prayers silently or aloud.) God who enfolds us in your own wounds, Open our hearts to know the healing power of your love. This week, we give thanks for the GSP Quilting Ministry and all the people to whom the quilts have brought comfort. (People may add their own prayers silently or aloud.) God of all blessings, We give you heartfelt thanks and praise. Silence The Collect after the Prayers of the People is adapted from Prayers for an Inclusive Church by The Rev. Steven Shakespeare. God of Abraham, Moses and the prophets, your covenant binds us as sisters and brothers: help us to overcome the scandal of poverty, the fixed chasm of indifference and to recognize you in the wounded poor; through Jesus Christ, the Builder of Bridges. Amen. Confession of Sin The beginning and ending of the Confession are adapted from Janet Morley, All Desires Known. The middle stanzas are adapted from Creator God by Douglas Galbraith, The Pattern of our Days. Deacon: Let us confess our sins against God, our neighbors, and God s creation. All: O God, you search us out and know us, and all that we are is open to you. We confess that we have sinned. When we use our power to dominate and our weakness to manipulate; When we live within our limits, touching the bounds only for reassurance; When we distrust visions and dreams, and seek to destroy the visionary; -27-

When we welcome your gifts only to entertain, but not to change us; When we fail to integrate spirit and flesh and forfeit our wholeness and dignity; We ask for your forgiveness and healing. Deacon: We turn to you, O God of infinite compassion; We renounce evil; We claim your love; We choose to be made whole. Amen. God the Creator brings you new life. God the Redeemer forgives you and rescues you. God the Sustainer lifts you up to live in the Spirit. May the blessing of God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer be upon you and all of the cosmos. Amen. -28-

The Great Thanksgiving The Great Thanksgiving is adapted from Steven Shakespeare s Eucharistic Prayer 3 in Prayers for an Inclusive Church. God is with us. God is present here. Rejoice! Lift up your hearts. We lift our hearts to the Most High. Let us give thanks to the Holy One. It is right to offer thanks and praise. Lifegiving God, your word speaks in the void, calling into being things that are not, inviting us to share your work of creation. We thank you for the ages long of gathering stars and cooling earth, of life evolving and waking eyes of wonder. We thank you for the creatures with whom we share the world, for their lives so different from our own and the richness they reveal. We thank you for the Son of Man, formed from Mary s flesh and nurtured by her faith; he walked the growing earth and proclaimed a fearless kingdom of bird and lily, child and stranger, the beggar and the blind. On the cross, he joined the labor of all creation s yearning; in his rising, he hallowed all flesh to bear the glory of God; he gives the brooding Spirit to bring to birth a living hope. Therefore, with all that has life through him, with animals and angels and all who hope for a new creation, we share the song of love which sounds from all eternity: -30-

Sanctus (Holy) Please stand or kneel, as you are able. We ask that your Holy Spirit will fall upon us + and upon these gifts + that these fragile, earthly things may be to us the body and blood of our brother Jesus Christ; who, on the night that he was betrayed, gathered with his faltering friends for a meal that tasted of freedom. Calling them to his table, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and said: This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me. In the same way after supper, he took the cup, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, whenever you drink it, to remember me. As on that night, so here and now he offers himself in touch and taste beyond what all words can hold. -31-

Deacon: Great is the mystery of faith People & Christ has died Christ is risen Christ will come again. Therefore, we come to him in whom all is created in heaven and on earth, whose cross and resurrection make all things new. People & We offer this to you, asking you to smile upon the gift we bring, for you alone are the Giver and Christ s the gift through which we live once and for all. Through him who was emptied to bear your fullness we make our prayer with Paul, Sergius, Lancelot Andrewes, Wilson Carlile, Vincent de Paul, Thomas Traherne, Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton, Margery Kempe, Michael and all Angels, * and all created life to the glory of the God who fills all in all now and for ever. -32-

Adult Spiritual Formation & Education ENDS TODAY: Women Priests? Yes! 9 a.m. in the Bloom Education Center. This class, taught in three sessions, offers the historical background on women s struggle to be ordained as priests in the Episcopal Church in the mid 1970s, focusing first on one Ohio parish in Oberlin. Kay Bigglestone was a member of this congregation and will tell her story. The Rev. Rosanna Kazanjian was ordained in 1985 in New England and soon after was sent to the Diocese of -40-

Each 30- to 45-minute class will feature an audio presentation by Father Keating and is meant to be heard sequentially to get the most out of the course, but can be beneficial to anyone who just drops by for one or more of the scheduled talks: September 22 Prayer in Secret September 29 The Discipline of Centering Prayer October 6 What Centering Prayer is not and what it is October 13 The Method of Centering Prayer I October 20 The Method of Centering Prayer II Facilitated by David Clements. Gifted by Otherness Women s Group Wednesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov. 6, 7 p.m. in the Mary of Bethany Room. A women s group is forming. We ll study the book Gifted by Otherness by L. W. Countryman and M. R. Ritley, which encourages gay and lesbian people to adopt a positive attitude to spirituality and to take a proactive role in the Church through telling our own stories, recognizing our spiritual gifts, interpreting spiritual writings in our own context, and refusing to apologize for who we are. In addition, we ll review aspects of progressive theology, and take plenty of time to share our stories. Intended for gay and lesbian people from inside and outside the Grace St. Paul s community. Non-lesbian participants who are contending with spiritual issues relating to sexuality and who are willing to maintain safe space for other participants are also welcome. Please obtain the book and read Chapter 1 before the first meeting. Facilitated by Chris Eastoe, long-term member of GSP, former Senior Warden and Treasurer, current vestry member. Spirit Players: A Play Reading Experience Friday, Oct. 4, 6:30 p.m. in the Bloom Education Center. For the October First Friday play reading the GSP Spirit Players are offering the familiar old chestnut, Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring. This popular comedy needs little introduction. The hilarity of this script centers around the interactions of a wild assortment of characters: two dainty older women who make elderberry wine, their brother who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt, an escapee from an insane asylum and the mad doctor who will perform plastic surgery on him, a drama critic who hates plays, and his fiancée, the daughter of the minister next door. This reading is on October 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Bloom Education Center. No theatre or public speaking experience is necessary; parts will be randomly assigned to anyone who shows up. Non-readers are welcome as well and can participate as an audience. Facilitated by Halsy Taylor and Nanalee Raphael, theatre professionals and afficionados. Co-Creation and Giving at Grace St. Paul s Sunday, Oct. 6, 9 a.m., in the Bloom Education Center. The third spiritual path, Via Creativa of Matthew Fox, builds on creation spirituality (Via Positiva, the first path), and consists of a call to co-create, to contribute imaginatively to God s creation. Because our GSP community evolves in response to that call, joyful -41-

and generous giving of time and money to GSP is a valuable exercise in co-creation. Facilitated by Chris Eastoe, vestry member, former Senior Warden, and enthusiastic student of Matthew Fox. ANIMATE: Faith Development for Progressive Christians (GROUP ONE) Mondays, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4, 11, 18, 7 to 9 p.m., at the home of Catherine Penn Williams. Founders of the world s great religions spent time in solitude, often in times of testing, far from home, physical resources and human friends. These periods of silence and seclusion, during which they learned to be alone with their thoughts, led each one to revolutionary action. The similarity to Native American vision quests is evident. Two PowerPoint presentations by Dr. Chuck Dickson, long-time GSP member, will examine the visions and the people like Abraham, Jesus, Buddha, and others whose lives were redirected by their experiences. Project Visibility: Receiving Quality Care for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Older Adults Friday, October 18, 9-10:30 a.m. in the Bloom Education Center. Sandy Davenport from the Pima Council On Aging will discuss Project Visibility, which provides training for home health agencies and facilities that wish to provide safe and respectful communities for GLBT residents. Sandy will explain what this program includes, how to determine if a service provider has received the -42-

training, and how to help service providers obtain the training. Sandy will also discuss questions that GLBT individuals, their families, caregivers, and/or their pastoral care visitors should be asking in advance of requiring care, either at home or in a long-term care setting, and also when making a final decision regarding a residential facility. Please note: This program had been publicized earlier as taking place at St. Andrew s Episcopal Church. It is now taking place at Grace St. Paul s. Film and Fellowship Friday, Oct. 18, 6:30 p.m. in the Bloom Education Center. How about a great gathering, an outstanding movie, and even some food to share? Film and Fellowship will give you all three plus a chance to discuss the implications of the films as each one addresses elements of the Christian faith. Facilitated by Eric Carr and Kitt Cordero. EfM Graduates Forum Mondays, Oct. 28, Nov. 18, Dec. 16, 10 a.m. in the Weeks Room. This monthly forum is for graduates of EfM. Your donations help the volunteers purchase the many supplies needed to create the beautiful quilts and become a part of the tangible quilts shared with people beyond GSP. Quilts will be on display in the church after both church services on September 29. Come and look! (They will be available for purchase.) -43-

Have an hour or so on Fridays? We are looking for a volunteer to reformat the Sunday bulletin so a parishioner who is blind can read the bulletin using a computer with a speech output device. Contact Lynne Albright or leave a message for her in the church office and she will give you more information. EMERGENCY PASTORAL CARE PHONE NUMBER We have made reaching a member of the pastoral care team easier and quicker. If you have a pastoral emergency after hours, please call (520) If you would like to learn more about how to become a trained pastoral care team member, please contact Lynne Albright. Social Justice & Outreach JOSEPH S PANTRY NEWS The Grocery Outlet, the store where Joseph s Pantry gets the majority of its food, is closing. Currently the store is holding a liquidation sale. Please consider stopping by the outlet and purchasing items for the pantry. If they re still available, we could use soup, tuna, peanut butter, canned ravioli, socks, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, and snacks. The store is located on Speedway at Craycroft. EXCITING RECYCLING NEWS Some of you may have noticed the large blue receptacle that has been in the Grace St. Paul s kitchen this last month. The Green Church Committee purchased this bin for recyclables. People preparing food in the kitchen no longer have to go outside through the back door to recycle. Please make good use of the bin and help GSP keep recyclable items out of the landfill. Together we can have a greener church. DONATIONS: TIHAN POZ CAFÉ Donations are being sought for TIHAN s Poz Café. Items needed: toilet paper and paper towels. Thank you for your support! For more information, please contact Jay Elliston at tcsnjay@aol.com. Do you have 45 minutes to spare once a week? Or once a month? Bread from the Pantry is looking for drivers to collect and deliver bread on different days during the week. Volunteers can sign up for the same day every week or the same day once a month. We ll work with your schedule! Volunteers need a good-sized sedan or small SUV and need to be comfortable working alone in the evening. Volunteers collect bread from Beyond Bread (on Campbell south of Ft. Lowell) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The bread is collected at 8 p.m. and delivered to GSP. If you re interested or would like additional details, please call Bill Trujillo at Thank you! Parish Membership & Administration We believe everyone who comes to Grace St. Paul s has something to offer this community, and we are happy to welcome you. Information forms are available in the church office Monday through Friday, and in McBride Hall at the Welcome Table on Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon. GET YOUR NAME TAG! If you don t already have a name tag, please sign up for one at the Welcome Table in McBride Hall or on the bulletin board across from the Welcome Table. -44-

HOW DO I SUBMIT ITEMS FOR THE SUNDAY BULLETIN? Coming Up in the Diocese Please send bulletin announcements to David Wachter at gsp1@dakotacom.net. Please make prayer list requests by calling the church office at and speaking with the Office Welcome Team volunteer, or by sending them directly to David Wachter at gsp1@dakotacom.net. The deadline for the Sunday bulletin is 4 p.m. on the preceding Wednesday. Prayer list requests for the bulletin may be made until 4 p.m. on Wednesday this week. Thanks! HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN EVENT AT GSP? If you would like to schedule a meeting or event at Grace St. Paul s, contact KiKi Fenik, GSP s Parish Administrator, in the church office; please her at ParishAdmin@grace-stpauls.org. -45-
