IMPACT BIBLE STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS CONDUCT IN THE HOUSEHOLD OF GOD I TIMOTHY 1:1 3:16 Day 1 Read I Timothy 1: From Philippians 2:19-22, why could Paul call Timothy my true son in the faith? 2. In his letter, why did Paul urge Timothy to stay in Ephesus? 3. How did Paul describe his goal in verse 5? 4. What objection did Paul have to these men as teachers? 5. a. What do we know about the Law from verse 8? b. What was the purpose of the Law according to Galatians 3:24? c. For whom was the Law made (vs. 9, 10)? 6. Paul was entrusted with the gospel. Stewardship of what God entrusts to us demands we do the best we can to act wisely. What is the point of the parable Jesus told in Luke 12:42-48? Day 2 Read I Timothy 1: a. How did Paul describe himself before his conversion?
b. Why did he feel he was shown mercy? 8. a. Why did Paul say Jesus came into the world? b. What purpose did Jesus state in Mark 2:17? 9. a. Paul felt he was the worst of sinners, yet his conversion was an example of what characteristic of God? b. Please share how God has demonstrated that characteristic of His in your life. c. Witnessing is a frightening word to many Christians who think a lot of Bible knowledge is a prerequisite. However, a personal testimony of how Jesus Christ has changed you is a marvelous witness. If you answered (b), you have something to share with others. Write II Timothy 1: What qualities did Timothy need for his work? 11. a. Who did Paul mention rejected these qualities? b. How did Paul handle their problem? c. This remedial action was taken for what purpose as seen in I Corinthians 5:5? Day 3 Read I Timothy 2: a. For whom were Christians to pray?
b. Why? c. What is God s desire? 13. What did Paul teach in vs. 5, 6? 14. Fill in: I want men everywhere. 15. How had the gospel emancipated women in the first century Jewish and Greek culture as seen in Galatians 3:26-28? 16. In establishing orderly conduct for worship, what advice did Paul give Timothy concerning women s: a. attire b. instruction c. authority d. How do you think ignoring these guidelines might disrupt a worship service? 17. a. Through whom did sin enter the world? b. Through whom did the Savior enter the world?
c. Women will be brought safely through childbirth if they what? 18. Reread vs Did you notice the POSITIVE admonitions to prayer (vs. 8), good works (vs. 10, and faith, love, holiness and modesty (vs. 15)? How do Paul s instructions to both men and women in this chapter promote the life he described in verse 2? Day 4 Read I Timothy 3: In verse 1, what was Paul s evaluation of the ministry of a bishop/overseer? 20. What qualifications did Paul outline in regard to: a. moral characteristics? b. home life? c. spiritual maturity? d. reputation? 21. According to Acts 20:28, when Paul spoke to the elders at Ephesus, what responsibility did the office of overseer include? 22. What charge was given in I Peter 5:1-4? Day 5 Read I Timothy 3: What objectionable habits would disqualify a man as deacon?
24. a. What did Paul say to do before assigning this office? b. How do you think a church can help its members be ready for these offices? c. How do you think a wife can help her husband prepare for a job like this? 25. What is the reward of serving well? 26. a. What was the purpose of this letter to Timothy? b. What do we learn in Hebrews 10:23-25? 27. a. Paul spoke of the mystery of godliness. What do these Scriptures say that support the confession of verse 16 (NIV)? He appeared in a body, Philippians 2:6, 7 was vindicated by the Spirit, Romans 1:4 was seen by angels, Luke 2:10, 11 was preached among the nations, Revelation 5:9 was believed on in the world, I John 5:1
was taken up in glory, Mark 16:19 b. How did Paul sum up this mystery in Colossians 2:9?
