An Antiracist Analysis will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 9.45 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, 5129 Wolf Rd., Western Springs, IL The cost is $10, and lunch and childcare will be provided. Register at Our nation has a substantial racial wealth gap Our nation is becoming more diverse and more unequal Our nation will be majority people of color by the middle of this century. Yet, wealth is unambiguously divided along racial lines; Black and Latinx households are disproportionately impacted by the wealth gap. Rooted in historic, institutionalized injustices and supported by practices and policies that serve to entrench inequitable trends these disparities increase wealth for those who already possess significant assets. Becoming an antiracist Church requires that we advocate and work toward a sustainable, equitable future for all people; in order to do so, we must understand the roots of this inequity. Tickets Available for Synod Youth Lock-in, November 2-3 This year s synod youth lock-in will take place on Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3, 2018, beginning at 10 p.m. with a concert by Rachel Kurtz. on November 2 at Enchanted Castle (1103 S. Main St. Lombard, IL 60148). The event will end at 5 a.m. on November 3. The entire event will be held at Enchanted Castle. The cost is $35 per person. The 2018 Honorees are: Consider a TSI Grant The Metropolitan Chicago Synod works to energize and renew congregations, supporting their efforts to turnaround and begin to grow and thrive. Our Turnaround Synod Initiative (TSI) is a program that invites congregations to be inspired, challenged, and empowered to increase participation in their congregation and community and become more engaged. TSI Grants are partnership grants for congregations who have identified and are seeking to achieve specific renewal goals or outcomes such as leadership training, strategic mission planning, or evangelism education and implementation. 3 MetroWord November 2018 Page 3 Beaming Books Fair Promotes Local Authors Children s authors Jennifer Grant (Maybe God is Like That, Too) and Robin Currie (The Very Best Story Ever Told) will sign copies of their books at a Beaming Books Fair to be held at St. Mark s Episcopal Church, 393 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137, on Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Beaming Book children s Bibles and Christian storybooks will be displayed for order and delivered by December 1 for holiday gifts. Cash, checks and credit cards accepted for book sales and orders. Four years ago, Always Being Made New: The Campaign for the ELCA was launched with a goal of raising $198 million in a five-year span a significant increase in support for existing and new ministries. Through this first-ever effort, the commitment was made to invest in the future of the church, deepen relationships, and expand ministries that serve neighbors and communities at home and around the globe. As of July 31, the campaign has received $198 million for campaign priorities: $160 million in cash and commitments and $38 million in planned gifts. Donald Deceased 9/22/2018 Welcome to Rostered Leader New to Our Synod Welcome to the Rev. Mark D. Rollenhagen, who has been called to serve as pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Waukegan, Illinois. Pastor Rollenhagen transferred from the Northeastern Ohio Synod where he most recently served at Good Soil Lutheran Church, Lakewood and Rocky River, Ohio. He previously served as a mission pastor at Faith Lutheran Church, Lakewood, Ohio. He earned his BA in Political Science from Alma College, Alma, Michigan; and his MDiv from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. 7 The Ultimate Lock-in Nov. 2nd, 10pm - Nov. 3rd, 5am Join us for great night with a concert by Rachel Kurtz, and stay for the Enchanted Castle fun - video games, laser tag, go karts, etc Cost for the event is $35 which includes the concert, access to Enchanted Castle activities starting at midnight, $21 in game play and pizza.
