5 A Guide Morn Service The ntroduction New Members This week we hve hppy occsion receive new members in our church fmily dur morn worship service. Why must we be members locl church? The Bible uses metphors define Church. The Church is one body in Christ. We re ll members sme body, nd we belong one nor (Romns 12:5). The Church is one fmily. To be member ny fmily, we re be eir born in it or dopted in it. Since we re ll born s children wrth (Ephesins 2:3), we must be dopted; nd God hs dopted us in His community Trinity. We hve one Fr, one Svior nd elder Bror, nd one Spirit doption by Whom we re mde members fmily (Romns 8:15-17). Therefore, s Scripture repetedly ddresses us, we re brors, sisters, frs, nd mors one nor. So, why must we become members locl church? t is becuse, hv been united Christ, we re necessrily united ll those who re united Him. Therefore, we re entitled wtchful cre, instruction, pryers, nd government church, nd or rights nd privileges tht come with it. Who cn be member church? Any person who is clled Christin by hv mde credible pression fith, hv been bptized in Bible-believ church, nd hv been dmitted by Session ( body elders) Lord s Tble cn be commun member First Presbyterin Church. Children believer(s) re, by virtue ir birth in believ household nd in covennt with God, children covennt. However, y not prtke Lord s Tble s wy protect m from et nd drink judgment upon mselves, if y were do so in n unworthy mnner (1 Corinthins 11:27-29). Hence, our children re clled non-commun members church. We hope tht ll our covennt children would embrce gospel nd become commun members. While only commun members re entitled ll rights nd privileges church, ll members church fmily re, however, entitled wtchful cre, instruction, pryers, nd government church.hv discussed why nd who cn become members First Presbyterin Church, let us look briefly t questions for membership: 1. Do you cknowledge yourselves be sinners in sight God, justly deserv His displesure nd without hope, sve in His sovereign mercy? 2. Do you believe in Lord Jesus Christ s Son God, nd Svior sinners, nd do you receive nd rest upon Him lone for slvtion s He is fered in Gospel? 3. Do you now resolve nd promise, in humble relince upon grce Holy Spirit, tht you will endevor live s becomes followers Christ? 4. Do you promise support Church in its worship nd work best your bility? 5. Do you submit yourselves government nd discipline Church, nd promise study its purity nd pece? The first three five questions seek show us our hellish plight before God, br us point desperte need for person nd work Jesus, nd rely upon lifegiv power in none but Holy Spirit lone.
