October 9, 2016: The Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost at 10:30am Welcome! Wherever you are on your journey of faith, there is a place for you at Holy Communion. Prelude: Nun danket alle Gott Paul Manz Opening Hymn: Please stand. Lauda anima Hymnal 410 Opening Acclamation Blessed be the one, holy, and living God. Glory to God for ever and ever. Song of Praise Please join in singing the refrain of the Gloria. If you wish to sing the verses with the choir, please turn to LEVAS 243. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to His people on earth Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father! We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God. Refrain. You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You are seated at the right hand of Father, receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord. You alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Refrain.

The Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. The Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. 1st Lesson Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7 These are the words of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remaining elders among the exiles, and to the priests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm 66:1-9 All sing the refrain after the choir, and where indicated. Be joyful in God, all you lands; * sing the glory of his Name; sing the glory of his praise. Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! * because of your great strength your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down before you, * sings to you, sings out your Name." Refrain Come now and see the works of God, * how wonderful he is in his doing toward all people. 2

He turned the sea into dry land, so that they went through the water on foot, * and there we rejoiced in him. In his might he rules for ever; his eyes keep watch over the nations; * let no rebel rise up against him. Refrain. Bless our God, you peoples; * make the voice of his praise to be heard; Who holds our souls in life, * and will not allow our feet to slip. For you, O God, have proved us; * you have tried us just as silver is tried. Refrain 2nd Lesson 2 Timothy 2:8-15 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David-- that is my gospel, for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself. Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth. La Palabra del Señor. Demos Gracias a Dios. The Holy Gospel Please stand. Luke 17:11-19 The congregation is invited to sing Heleluyan three times before the Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, Lord Christ. 3

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" Then he said to him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well." The Gospel of our Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. The congregation is invited to sing Heleluyan twice after the Gospel. The Sermon Please be seated at the invitation of the Preacher. Noah Bullock Executive Director, Cristosal The Nicene Creed Please stand. Enriching Our Worship We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 4

The Prayers of the People Form VI standing or kneeling Book of Common Prayer, p.392 The Leader and People pray responsively In peace, we pray to you, Lord God. Silence. For the peace and unity of the Church of God; For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth. For the Church in El Salvador, for St. Francis Church in Eureka; for Michael, our Presiding Bishop, for George Wayne, our bishop, and for all bishops and other ministers. For all who serve God in the Church. For those on our prayer list, for the members of this parish who have been deployed to the Middle East, especially Corrine Lamberson, and for the special needs and concerns of this congregation. The people may add their own petitions silently or aloud. Hear us, Lord; For your mercy is great. For all who will be celebrating a birthday this week: Astrid DeBuhr, Matt Chapman and Bob Lewis; we thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life; The people may add their own petitions silently or aloud. We will exalt you, O God our King; And praise your Name for ever and ever. We pray for all who have died, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom. The people may add their own petitions silently or aloud. Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them; Who put their trust in you. 5

We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins. Silence. Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Celebrant Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. Welcome and Announcements Please be seated. Offertory Anthem: The Image of God Craig Courtney In the beginning, God shaped and formed me, I am skillfully and wonderfully made, I am the image of my Creator, In every part of me His likeness is displayed. For His own purpose, God shaped and formed me, I have a place within His plan. I am the image of my Creator, My past and future are secure within His hand. Life flows from life and loving, Gifts of the Father by nature and by grace. A heart made glad, a soul unshaken, unbounded joy, In every breath a song of praise. Offertory Hymn: Please stand Nun danket alle Gott Hymnal 397 The Great Thanksgiving Prayed today in Spanish. The English can be found in the Book of Common Prayer beginning on page 361. El Señor sea con ustedes. And also with you. Elevemos los corazones. We lift them to the Lord. Demos gracias a Dios nuestro señor. It is right to give God thanks and praise. 6

The presider offers our thanks to God for the grace and mercy made available to us in Christ. In response all sing: The presider gives thanks to God for the reconciling work of Christ s passion and resurrection and prays over the bread and wine. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The presider concludes with prayer for the coming of God s reign. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ, By him, and with him, and in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. The congregation sings the Great Amen to the tune of Heleluyan (see p. 3). 7

The Lord s Prayer (prayed in English, Spanish, or the language of your choosing). For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Padre nuestro que esta s en el cielo, santificado sea tu Nombre, venga tu reino, haǵase tu voluntad, en la tierra como en el cielo. Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada diá.
