Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. 1st Lesson Habakkuk 1:1-4; 2:1-4 The oracle that the prophet Habakkuk saw. O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you "Violence!" and you will not save? Why do you make me see wrong-doing and look at trouble? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. So the law becomes slack and justice never prevails. The wicked surround the righteous-- therefore judgment comes forth perverted. I will stand at my watchpost, and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch to see what he will say to me, and what he will answer concerning my complaint. Then the Lord answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay. Look at the proud! A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a 3

4 sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, "He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner." Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much." Then Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost." The Gospel of our Lord. Mike Angell The Nicene Creed Please stand. Enriching Our Worship We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. 7 A Prayer for Stewardship Celebrant and People: Gracious and everlasting God, the giver of all good gifts, you have blessed us and our parish abundantly. Grant us the hope to dream and the courage to live into our possibilities. Make us faithful stewards, both for the provision of our necessities and for the relief of those who are in need. Bless the efforts of our Annual Giving this year to extend the work of spiritual renewal in our church and community of faith. Through Jesus Christ, who gave all of himself, we offer this prayer. Amen. Eucharistic Prayer 3 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Enriching Our Worship The presider offers our thanks to God for the grace and mercy made available to us in Christ. In response all sing: 7

8 The presider gives thanks to God for Christ s redeeming work, and remembers Jesus last supper with his disciples. The people are invited to respond to the words: we acclaim you, O Christ: Dying, you destroyed our death. Rising, you restored our life. Christ Jesus, come in glory! The presider concludes with prayer for the Holy Spirit to sanctify the bread, the wine, and the gathered congregation. The Eucharistic prayer concludes with a plea for the coming of God s reign. We worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. The congregation sings the Great AMEN to the tune of Heleluyan (p.4) The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. On the left (West) side of the altar rail, the chalice is filled with grape juice, as a sign of welcome for those who choose not to consume wine. On the right (East) side of the altar rail, the chalice is traditional red wine. Please feel free to cross the aisle for your preferred chalice. Ofrenda Dia De Los Muertos: Altar of Remembrance In Latin America, the dead are remembered and celebrated on Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) November 2, All Soul s Day, with colorful, joyous altars filled with mementos and photos of the beloved to honor and remember those who have died. Over the next two weeks at Holy Communion, we will be decorating the chapel altar as we prepare to celebrate the Feast of All Saints and Dia De Los Muertos. Bring a photo or other memento of a loved one who has died and place it on the altar. You are also welcome to light a candle in this special place. and take a few minutes to rest and remember all those who have graced our lives for such a short time. We ll bless the ofrenda on All Saints Sunday, Nov. 6 during the services. 11

Two Adult Forums about the Holy Communion Budget Nov 6 and 13 Over the next two weeks, we invite members of Holy Communion to two adult forums looking at the Holy Communion budget. During the annual pledged giving campaign, we like to provide a time to take a look together at how donations to Holy Communion are spent and to ask questions at the budget. On November 6 at 9:15am, the rector, wardens, and treasurer will be on hand to talk about the program budget. On November 13, also at 9:15am, we will celebrate the conclusion of the "Faith in You" Capital Campaign. Bill Scoopmire, chair of the campaign, and the rector will give an accounting of all that we were able to accomplish at Holy Communion thanks to your generosity. Please join us.
