5 What is S.O.A.P.? S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. It is a way of getting more out of your time in God s word. How does it work? Scripture Open your Bible to your reading for the day. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you are done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it in your journal. Observation What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Application Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today. Prayer This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or even a prayer for a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out. That s all there is to it!!! We will walk you through how to S.O.A.P. Journal this week. We hope that once this week is finished that you will be able to continue S.O.A.P. Journaling at home. 5

36 Summit 2018 Communicating Christ / Changing Lives Welcome to Summit, We have been praying for you and your church. Summit 2018 CONNECTED! Why Connected? Look around you. Racial tension, school violence, and so many people in our nation are full of hate for one another. We have chosen Connected to encourage students to love their neighbors and share God s love. What would happen if the world could see true unconditional love from all of us? The Bible teaches that they will know us by are love! If the Body of Christ would begin to love one another, others would see Jesus. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, our theme verse, helps us to see how we are all a part of His Church. Everyone has their own part with Christ as the head. Knowing who you are in Christ and your purpose is so important. How do you relate to others in your group or your church? Being Jesus hands and feet is where real ministry begins. We pray you will be challenged in this while you are here at Summit Camps. Our staff and directors have been praying for you. We pray that you will Connect to God, Connect to each other, and Connect to those who do not know the truth of Jesus. May the Holy Spirit fall on you this week and give you peace and encouragement like never before. Summit Directors For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Jews or Greeks, slaves or free and all were made to drink of one Spirit. I Corinthians 12:
37 How To Become A Christian Your relationship with God begins with these simple steps. A - Admit - Admit to God you are a sinner and admit your need for forgiveness. Ask God to help you change from your old life (repent) and admit to Him that you need His help. Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Also 1 John 1:9 and Acts 3:19) B - Believe - Believe that Jesus Christ is God s Son, and accept God s gift of forgiveness from sin. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believe in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (Also John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:11-13.) C - Confess - Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Romans 10: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved... for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. If you are ready to make this step in your relationship with God, pray. Tell God that you A - Admit that you have sin that you cannot take away; Tell God that you B - Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sin; and C - Confess Jesus as the new boss of your life. 37
