2 ** The Invocation ** The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 9 MS/HS Youth Excursion Disney Quest Indoor Interactive theme park is a one-of-a-kind gaming experience with 5 floors of cutting-edge technology, virtual reality and 3D encounters. Over 12 hours of something for everyone, from Pirates of the Caribbean, Building your own roller coaster, Pirates of the Caribbean, Virtual Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear's Astroblasters, to the classics like Galaga, Pac Man, or air hockey, and did I mention Pirates of the Caribbean? Oh and this year, for those who want, a portion of our group will be taking an extra long dinner break to go to the Rainforest Cafe restaurant (this will be a more expensive dinner.) 10 High School Summer Mission Project August 6-10, 2012 Applications Available Now! It s time once again to immerse ourselves in the city, in order to learn, better understand, gain compassion for, and serve the poor and homeless of Tampa. God loves this city, therefore we want to love it like He loves. This is a great way to live out 1 John 3:18, which says, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. We will be partnering with Metropolitan Ministries as we live out an intense week of service. For 39 years, Metropolitan Ministries has served poor and homeless men, women, and children in the Tampa Bay area. They serve as many as 150 families daily through Outreach and Prevention Services. They remain committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness. We will have opportunities to hear the stories of and share the love of Christ with the poor and homeless of Tampa. Finally, by serving locally, we hope to emphasize the truth that a mission trip doesn t need to be far away from home, but that we can serve like this all year long. 11 New Youth Sunday School Classes Beginning THIS Sunday, June 3 Middle School - Seeking a King Teacher: Danny Dalton & Richard Zak This is a Great Commission Publications curriculum which takes a look at Israel's history from the period of the Judges to king Solomon. It teaches us that Jesus is the true, perfect and only king we need. All of Israel's failures and successes point to our need for Jesus. Come and journey through some great Old Testament books this summer as they provide a feast for your soul. High School - A Study of Romans Teacher: Randy Johnson & Gregg Quick We will be going through a discussion oriented and inductive approached study through the entire book or Romans. This study is part of the So What? series from Great Commission Publications. No matter what you are going through this summer, you will discover that the book of Romans will meet your needs. For, it addresses your deepest need- God s grace in your life through faith in Jesus Christ. Paul explains the profoundly wonderful implications and applications of the gospel in Romans. Although this study isn t exhaustive how could it be in 13 sessions? you will read every chapter and I promise the Holy Spirit will work through God s Word! 13 Current Adult Classes Walden Class Update - Room 108 Teacher: Elder Bill Earnest Recently, the class completed the book of Daniel. We are now prepared to embark on the continuation and revelations that were given to Daniel. The New Testament book of Revelation confirms the many prophecies that we read throughout the Old Testament. Some have said that the Apostle John copied from the old books as he wrote his book of apocalypse. If that were the case than we would be looking at just another story teller and there would be big questions about everything the Apostle put down on paper! However, if in fact, John recorded the very things he saw, and they confirm the recorded visions of the Old Testament writers, then the book of Revelation is truly a book about our Savior and how He will bring about the end times and the salvation of all people of God! We invite any and all who would want a study on this book as it relates to everyday people, the powers of the earth given to the Anti- Christ, and mankind racing towards eternal damnation as God s people get closer to the time when the goodness of Christ rules the world in the power and grace that comes from the Throne of God. Doctor of Grace: The Life and Thought of St. Augustine Church Office Teacher: Bryan Toenes To say that Augustine of Hippo has had a huge impact on the direction of Western Christian thought, including both Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions, is a major understatement. Yet Augustine s life could have turned out very differently if not for the grace of God reaching out to save such a wayward sinner. This summer Bryan Toenes will lead a study of both the life and teachings of one of the greatest Christian minds of all time. Join us as we explore how God has used this saint from Late Antiquity to bless His Church even today. As a side note, there is no outside reading requirement for this class. However, a grasp of basic Christianity and general familiarity with the Old and New Testaments would be very helpful. Old Testament Survey Room 102 Teacher: Steve Strickland Paul s letter to Timothy says that all Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Paul is speaking about the Old Testament here. If we want to have a richer, fuller understanding of Jesus and the gospel, we need to know the Old Testament better. At times, however, the language and customs of the Old Testament can seem foreign to believers making it difficult to understand. Join us this summer as we examine God's unfolding plan to build His kingdom and redeem a people for Himself. Emphasizing a Christ-centered reading of Scripture, we will see how the Old Testament shapes our minds, our hearts, and the way we live.
