LECTURE COURSES Semester-Long Courses: January 23 May 19 Studies in the Life of Christ, Part 2 Mike Bickle Friday, 6 9pm, at Forerunner Christian Fellowship (no audit enrollment needed) Studies in the Life of Christ, part 2 will continue to focus on the person of Jesus and His message. The course will cover the events in Jesus life in a chronological way by harmonizing the accounts of the four Gospels. We will look the mystery of who Jesus is (Christology), what His message is, and how we are to love, relate to, and partner with Him. Quarter 3: January 23 March 17 Acts of the Holy Spirit Daniel Lim Luke was inspired by the Holy Spirit to record this powerful and detailed narrative account of the life of the post-resurrected Christ and the fulfillment of the coming promise and paraclete (helper/comforter) on the day of Pentecost. The book of Acts laid a critical foundation for Christology, pneumatology, eschatology, ecclesiology, missiology and even soteriology for the church of Jesus Christ. Acts also records the accounts of the powerful works of the Holy Spirit through His people in the Jewish community and various ethne (nations) to spread the gospel, to heal, to deliver, and to bring forth transformation to lives and communities. It is amazing how, in one generation, many cities within the Roman empire were turned "upside down" by the preaching and demonstration of the power of the Gospel. This book continually challenges churches from every period of history to rediscover biblical and apostolic Christianity and uphold the standard of apostolic doctrine and practices. Desert Spirituality Dr. Chuck Metteer The aim of this course is to provide a deeper understanding of the faith and practices of the monastics of the late third to mid-fifth century (the desert fathers and mothers) who flocked to the deserts of Egypt, Palestine, and Syria. Their lives are a graphic picture of what is truly necessary in life. Indeed, the Egyptian desert tradition is central to Christianity. The sayings and stories that came from it are more than just a part of the Christian past. They are a part of our Christian heritage: they communicate eternal values, spiritual truths. In this course, consideration will be given to historical, biblical, theological, and spiritual factors that shaped the quests of these monastics for undistracted devotion to God. It will also explore how their sayings, ascetic disciplines, and rigorous spirituality can help us appreciate the diverse forms of Christian spirituality, as well as evaluate and inform our own spirituality. Foundations for Intimacy with God Daniel Hoogteijling Intimacy is a widely used term in the Body of Christ and means closeness. It is a term we use to describe a believer s growth in God s grace and development of a close personal relationship with the Lord God his/her Maker and Redeemer. This course is designed to set forth biblical foundations necessary for both understanding and pursuing intimacy with God and will incorporate practical prayer meditations designed to assist with the pursuit of intimacy.
Overview of the Book of Daniel Isaac Bennett The book of Daniel provides key insight into the plan and purposes of God in the end-time generation. His lifestyle and steadfast prayer life are given as a prototype for the believer called to the forerunner lifestyle. The purpose of this course is to get an overview of the entire book, including the recorded events of Daniel's life, his lifestyle and prayer life, and the visions he received. Special attention will be brought to Daniel s five visions to establish an introductory understanding to their meaning and future application through the beast kingdoms, the rise of the Antichrist, the Church and Israel, and the future victory of Christ. Prophetic Priesthood Stephen Beauchamp In this class, students will receive teaching around the subject of both the Old and New Testament priesthood. The priestly identity of the believer grants access to communion with God, resulting in the release of both His heart and His Word in the earth. God has called His people to be a kingdom of priests (Rev. 1:6), understanding this identity is significant. Apologetics David Sliker This course will examine the philosophical, religious, and scientific beliefs and ideas that have shaped both Western culture and the body of Christ, and are now reshaping our multicultural and pluralistic society. Differences in perspective and worldview towards the value and purpose of life, gender identity and roles, racial and cultural differences, God, good and evil, atheistic criticism, Islamic worldview, all serve to form the content of our studies with the goal of learning how to better communicate the Gospel to the nations and cultures of the earth at the end of the age. Excellencies of Christ Allen Hood Christ was the longing of all the Old and New Testament saints. Our greatest needs are met in Him, and our highest joys are found in Him. Like the apostles, we must keep Christ central in doctrine and practice, for Christ is the highest revelation of God to humanity and the clearest revelation of humanity to God. This course delves into the great mystery of the God-man, Jesus Christ. The student will explore the wonder of Christ s preexistence, incarnation, life, death, resurrection, ascension, and return. Life of Prayer Corey Russell After spending 3 years with the Son of God, there was one desire of the disciples that burned in them and that was to be taught in prayer. Jesus provoked this desire in His disciples and I believe that God is raising up leaders who will provoke the same desire in a generation. Life of Prayer focuses in on the different kinds of prayer and cultivating a life that sustains the spirit of prayer in our life. New Testament Survey Samuel Whitefield This overview of the New Testament provides both context for and insight into the events and foundations of the early church and the lives of the apostles and prophets of the New Testament community. The ramifications of what they labored for can still be felt today as the culmination of what was begun almost 2,000 years ago approaches. Students examine this important one-hundred-year New Testament period and consider how it impacts believers at the end of the age.
New Testament Theology Dr. Wes Adams This course is a theology course, not a survey of the New Testament. It introduces the student to a basic understanding of New Testament theology and resources. The course will examine the major theological themes of the New Testament, exploring both the New Testament s rich diversity of expression and the fundamental unity of its message. Quarter 4: March 27 May 19 Church History Jono Hall Learning the story of the Body of Christ down through the ages is critical to any believer who wants to disciple others. It is important to be inspired by the faithful exploits of the saints of old, but also to be instructed by their failures as potential pitfalls for us today. This course will provide a panoramic view of church history; specific focuses will include the early Jewish church, night-and-day prayer through the ages, the Reformation, the Great Awakenings, heresy throughout history, and, finally, God's outpouring in the twentieth century. Introduction to the Forerunner Ministry Isaac Bennett Just as God used John the Baptist as a forerunner to prepare the way for Jesus first coming, so the Lord is raising up forerunners who will boldly proclaim His return. Forerunner is a term that can be used to refer to spiritual leaders who God raises up to prepare His people for the generational transitions that will impact the Body of Christ across the earth. In this course we will look at the following topics: the nature and unique dynamics of a transitional generation, the nature and purpose of the forerunner ministry, biblical models of the forerunner ministry, and the lifestyle of the forerunner. Foundations of Intercession Corey Russell Foundations of Intercession is a journey from Genesis through Revelation of the ministry of Intercession. Most people see Intercession as a side calling for a few, but this class makes clear that it's the calling of every believer. Spiritual Warfare Stephen Beauchamp The Spirit of the Lord is upon us, because He has anointed us to bring freedom to the captives (Isa. 61:1). Spiritual warfare is a reality experienced by every believer, and the Lord has called us to be overcomers. There are many questions within this subject that need to be answered for spiritual growth and maturity. How much power does Satan really have? Can a believer be possessed? How can I shut the door to the enemy in my life? How do I cast out demons? During this class, students can expect to study topics that will give insight into how we experience and deal with demonic influence. Some of the topics include demonology, individual and corporate warfare, identifying the schemes of the enemy, how to overcome spiritual battles, and how to operate in inner healing and deliverance ministry.
God's Grand Plan for World Redemption Dale Anderson We are living in an hour of history in which great darkness is filling the nations. The daily news reports of wars, famines, and great suffering. In light of this many are asking: Who can solve these problems? Does God really exist? If so, does He even care about the darkness and injustice? In this course we will look at the reality of the present darkness in the earth and lay a foundation for understanding God s plan to end all injustice. This course will focus on giving the student an overview of God s glorious plan to end injustice, restore all things and establish His kingdom on the earth in fullness. We will study the final execution of His plan in the end times and the crucial role of the praying church in partnering with God to bring His Kingdom to the Earth as it is in Heaven. Restoration Prophets Andy Won The final three books of the Old Testament (Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi) cover the period following Israel s restoration to the land from captivity in Babylon. They focus on the time of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem and the maintenance of a vibrant worship life in the community of God s people, in the midst of both external opposition and internal apathy. The Lord appointed these prophets to encourage and inspire God s people to build the house of prayer and stay steady in the place of prayer during seasons of apparent delay in the fulfillment of longawaited prophetic promises. The messages of the so-called restoration prophets are vital to sustain and provoke those who are seeking to see night-and-day prayer established in the Church before the return of Jesus. Survey of Eschatology Samuel Whitefield Eschatology, or the study of the end times, is a subject that is usually far from the minds of many believers in their daily lives. However, it has a dramatic effect on our understanding of life and our understanding of God. In this course we will examine the main systems of eschatology differing viewpoints concerning the return of Christ and the Millennium. In our study, we will also see how these systems of eschatology affect both our daily lives and our understanding of who God is and what He will do. Theology of Biblical Prophecy Stephen Beauchamp and Dr. Chuck Metteer This course presents a foundational view of biblical prophecy through exploring the heart of God and His redemptive plan for mankind. It is designed to help discover the common thread of love and romance throughout the Old and New Testament through the spirit of prophecy. Some of the topics will include: God s heart and nature as a father as revealed through prophecy; the anatomy and office of a prophet; exploring the redemption of God in the midst of judgment; the life, calling, and message of various prophetic messengers; modern day prophecies and signs of the times through current events. This course will help establish those who feel called to operate in prophetic ministry at a greater capacity and lead others into the knowledge of God.
MUSIC COURSES Semester-Long Courses: January 23 May 19 Forerunner Music Academy music courses are skill-based and require participation, as well as observation. Audit students will receive the same one-on-one attention as FMA students do. All students will have the opportunity to lead worship, complete assignments, and be evaluated through tests and quizzes. If you are interested in any of the courses listed below, please in order to set up an assessment appointment. Upon completion of an assessment, you will be able to enroll for a course. Course times are available from FMA upon request. Bass, Levels 1 6 In these classes, we will complete a music journal full of licks, ideas, compositions, worship songs and progressions, lesson plan, notes, etc. This manuscript journal could be a life-long capsule of progression, revelations, and ideas building a strong foundation for personal style, concept, and creativity. Journal Entries will be dated and logged down for weekly assignments and future/long term purposes. This journal is intended to be a helpful tool for connecting all music and personal studies at FMA. By the end of this course, we will have developed a strong tool of understanding our own prophetic gift as a musician through our Music Journal. Drums, Levels 1 6 In these classes, we cover basic concepts of rhythm and dynamics that will help you play drums in a worship context. This includes learning basic stickings and rudiments along with basic rock beats. Using the drummer s alphabet, the student gains a general understanding of how to divide 16th notes into many possibilities on the snare, around the kit, and as grooves. They also transcribe and learn a worship song. Guitar, Levels 1 6 FMA guitar classes go in depth in the areas of guitar technique, fingerboard knowledge, scale forms, chord forms, strum patterns, improvisation, and practical applications in playing worship songs. The six levels systematically advance the student from their current level towards more confidence, consistency, creativity, and control on the instrument to a point where they are able to hear a chord progression or melody and immediately play it on the instrument. Music Theory, Levels 1 6 The six levels of FMA Theory classes include Keyboard Skills (scales, chords, and playing prophetically), Ear Training (recognition of chord progressions and sight singing) Theory (Nashville Numbers, key signatures, and chord building).
Piano, Levels 1 6 Over the course of the six levels of piano offered at FMA, students will grow in their understanding and application of chords and inversions, accompaniment patterns, song arranging, composition, and the role(s) of a keyboardist in a worship team. Students will also work to grow in their knowledge of jazz and improvisation, gospel, and classical literature. These skills are meant to be an aid and an encouragement in whatever area of life and music a student will enter after his or her time at FMA. Singing, Levels 1 6 In Singing 1-4, we focus on laying a firm foundation in the vocal arts through developing good vocal health, posture, breath support, resonance, vowel formation and placement, ear training and critical listening skills, and by engaging in rhythmic studies. These elements will be put into practice through song preparation, song performance, and skills tests. Other areas to be explored and developed are basic and intermediate improvisation, foundations of scat singing, and singing 2- and 3-part harmony. In Singing 5 and 6, we build off of the foundations laid in Singing 1 4 by exposing students to multiple genres of music with practical applications in stylistic interpretation, arranging, song writing, and song performance. Genres of music covered in these two levels include jazz, blues, American folk, gospel, bluegrass, Broadway, rhythm & blues, South African, Latin, and island. Emphasis will be on maintaining good vocal technique while exploring a vast array of musical styles and interpretations. Songwriting 1 Marshall Kirkman Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 10 10:50am This course requires a skill level equivalent to Music Theory 3 or higher. Through a combination of lectures, individual instruction, and hands-on training, this course will seek to cultivate skills in three primary areas of songwriting: lyric, progression, and arrangement. Students will apply their learning practically by composing several original songs throughout the course.
