5 FROM THE PRESIDENT the Spirit, with a faculty committed to mentoring students. Our faculty is equipping young leaders who are zealous for intimacy with Jesus and grounded in sound doctrine. These leaders will equip others to operate in missions, outreach, and works of justice that flow from deep allegiance to Jesus. We live in exciting yet sobering times. In our own nation, many young adults are hungry for more of Jesus and to walk in the fullness of God s purpose, while many others are selling out for a humanistic and politically correct theology that trivializes the glory of Jesus. We stand at a critical juncture. The Holy Spirit is visiting His people with power, yet the powers of darkness are also raging against the moral fabric of society. The light is growing brighter as the darkness deepens. It is time to draw a line in the sand. We must boldly speak what the Spirit is saying and act on it. International House of Prayer University (IHOPU) is for students who long to encounter Jesus. Becoming a student at IHOPU is an excellent way to prepare for a life of serving Jesus and others. Our Bible school functions as a growing community of students in a context of night-and-day prayer, equipping students in the Word of God and the power of IHOPU s curriculum combines in-depth biblical training with discipleship, practical service, outreach, and works of compassion. With schools of ministry, music, media, and missions, our twoand four-year programs prepare students to engage in the Great Commission and obey Jesus commandments to love God and people. 11 PROGRAMS OF STUDY FORERUNNER PROGRAM Freshmen & Sophomores This two-year program is designed to help students cultivate a lifestyle of prayer, develop a greater love for God and insight into His Word, and pursue fullness of God s destiny in their lives. Our training provides students with the biblical doctrine, values, and hands-on experience to equip them to love Jesus and others with all their strength, that they might do His works in the power of the Spirit with signs and wonders. CHRISTIAN MINISTRY PROGRAM Juniors & Seniors Students engage in four areas of practical leadership development. Preaching and Teaching Training equips communicators to preach and teach the Word with clarity, humility, and authority. Students learn to engage the Scriptures with rigor and precision and to deliver the Word in a way that builds the Church and serves the purposes of God in this hour of history. Local Church Leadership Training prepares students with the necessary skills to serve and pioneer praying churches in every tribe, tongue, and nation. Works of Justice Training presents a Christ-centered message of justice to students, preparing them to engage in intercession-based works of justice on behalf of the needy and oppressed. Students study the transformation of society through evangelism, discipleship, and the prayer movement. Youth and Children s Leadership Training equips students to help youth and children encounter the Lord, enjoy prayer, and experience the power of the Holy Spirit. 12 STUDY IN CHINESE AT IHOPU Forerunner School of Ministry & Forerunner Music Academy Chinese Programs IHOPU welcomes Chinese students to receive training in the Word of God and prayer in their own language. This one-year Forerunner School of Ministry Chinese Program, established in 2013, combines biblical study, intercession, and worship with discipleship and mentoring, preparing students for practical service, outreach, and ministry in the power of the Spirit. Bible teaching in the classroom focuses on topics such as prayer and worship, intimacy with God, the end times, God s purposes for Israel, and His plan for the prayer and missions movement. Training also includes active participation in our All Nations Prayer Room, where worship and intercession meetings are held in Chinese and eight other languages. Chinese graduates of this program pastors, worship leaders, those working in the workplace testify to the Lord s transforming power in their lives. By His grace, many have received spiritual breakthrough in their lives and relationship with God. 14 FORERUNNER MUSIC ACADEMY Training singers and musicians to lead worship that reflects the worth of Christ and releases His power Forerunner Music Academy (FMA) equips worship leaders, singers, musicians, and sound engineers. Our training combines excellent musicianship with study of the Word and intimacy with Jesus, preparing students to serve in houses of prayer, local churches, and places of worship all over the earth. 15 PROGRAMS OF STUDY FMA is a school of music and worship offering two- and four-year degrees. Our curriculum incorporates biblical training and the study of music. Training provides students with a solid, biblical framework; it ensures that they are grounded in the Word of God and teaches them to operate in the power of the Spirit and to function as prophetic singers and musicians (1 Chr. 25). ACADEMIC MAJORS Worship Exploring biblical examples of worship, cross-training in musical disciplines, biblical training, leadership development, flowing with a prophetic spirit, teambuilding skills, and practical elements of worship ministry equip students to serve the global worship movement in local churches and houses of prayer. Musical training consists of skill development in voice or instrument, theory, ear training, improvisation, and sound production. Each student is placed on a worship team, where biblical and musical training converge, providing students with coaching in a 24/7 prayer room environment. After completing the Forerunner Curriculum and other core classes, FMA students choose one of three majors. Performance Music performance students have the opportunity to acquire mastery of their chosen discipline, receiving one-on-one training in voice or instrument. Students learn the discipline and value of skill development along with a biblical heart posture to serve the Body of Christ. Music Production Students learn the art and science of audio engineering and studio production as they explore all aspects of live sound reinforcement, as well as observing all that it takes to manage a studio. 17 Misty Edwards on FORERUNNER MUSIC ACADEMY The purpose of our music school is to equip singers and musicians to be skillful musicians who are consumed with love for Jesus and operate in a prophetic spirit in a way that releases His presence and power. I desire to see these musicians and singers walking in a life of passion for Jesus and compassion for people. Scripture makes it clear that this is where the Spirit is leading the worship movement in the earth before the Lord returns. A new song is arising throughout the earth today (Isa. 42:10 and Rev. 5:9), as the Spirit draws the hearts of young musicians and singers into adoration of Jesus, abandonment to His will, bold proclamation of His truth, and demonstration of His power that liberates people from bondage. It is a new song because He is doing a new thing. The new song is a significant part of the global worship movement that will culminate in the second coming of Jesus. We can already see the beginnings of this new thing that He is doing. We believe that presence-filled worship can change the spiritual atmosphere of cities, bringing restoration to the brokenhearted, healing the sick, and bringing liberty to those in bondage. Prophetic songs of deliverance are even now releasing God s power and will continue to grow stronger and stronger. The Spirit is filling the earth with love songs that are encouraging believers to walk in wholehearted devotion to Jesus as He restores the first commandment to first place in the hearts of men and women in the Church. 18 This generation is inundated with music. A multitude of young people have grown up with movies, ipods, and radio. The human spirit has always been musical, but never before in history has the earth been as full of music as it is today. This generation is hungry for experience, and music plays a big part in this. The deepest thirst of the human soul is to experience God. Anointed music draws us into deeper connection with Jesus heart as it awakens our hearts in extravagant love for Him. I believe that the most skilled music in all of history is yet to arise in the Church. THE DEEPEST THIRST OF THE HUMAN SOUL IS TO EXPERIENCE GOD. ANOINTED MUSIC DRAWS US INTO DEEPER CONNECTION WITH JESUS HEART. Satan is preying on this thirst for encounter with God by raising up a counterfeit worship movement that will allow people to experience the power of darkness (Rev. 13:8). The end-time conflict will be between these two worship movements, but we know that Jesus has already won. At Forerunner Music Academy (FMA), our desire is to raise up skillful singers and musicians who understand the Bible, flow in a prophetic spirit, and join His new song. We seek to press the limits of where we can go in skilled, prophetic singing and music. To do this, we must know our instruments well and be confident in our voices; therefore, our students spend time in the classroom learning music theory and composition. One of the primary values of FMA is to actively involve our students in live worship. We have found that singers and musicians learn best by playing their instruments and singing in live worship sessions. I grew the most as a musician and singer by taking what I learned in my private lessons and practice hours and then having a chance to fly with it in live prayer meetings. I sang and played in the prayer room for many hours a day in the first few years of IHOPKC. When I started, I only knew a few chords, and lacked confidence vocally, but as I led worship at prayer meetings every day, I began to know my voice, learn my instrument, and learn how to move in the Spirit and sing the Word. Hands-on experience is key to learning music. Our FMA students regularly play in live prayer meetings where they learn to play together as a team, sing the Word, perform what is written on the page, and play spontaneously all the while in a prayer meeting where they are searching the Word and seeking to operate in a prophetic spirit. Because our missions base functions in the context of the prayer room, where the music never stops, our entire community is built on music. It is 18 International House of Prayer University

19 therefore an ideal place to learn music, press the limits of prophetic worship and songs of deliverance, and grow in the new song. I am excited to see hundreds of likeminded young singers and musicians who are dedicated to learning the skill of music to bring glory to Jesus. We are living in exciting times, and music is at the forefront of what God is doing in this generation. I am sober and alive in faith when I see that what was prophesied in Scripture is happening before my eyes. OUR FMA STUDENTS REGULARLY PLAY IN LIVE PRAYER MEETINGS, WHERE THEY LEARN TO PLAY TOGETHER AS A TEAM, SING THE WORD, PERFORM WHAT IS WRITTEN ON THE PAGE, AND PLAY SPONTANEOUSLY. ABOUT MISTY EDWARDS Misty Edwards helped start the International House of Prayer in 1999, and has been a worship leader here ever since. She serves on the senior leadership team. Misty s hunger for reality and encounter with Jesus fuels her worship leading, songwriting, and preaching. Misty desires that her worship would bring people into the place of encounter with the heart of the Lord. Her passion is to see singers and songwriters step into their role as forerunners who have a message concerning God s personality and the return of His Son. The new song will fill the earth, and the Spirit and the Bride will cry, Come! in an eruption of song, intercession, and demonstrations of power. He is moved by our songs to Him, and a great multitude will join our song as we worship Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. 20 FORERUNNER MEDIA INSTITUTE Preparing media messengers to capture the message and share His story The two-year degree at Forerunner Media Institute (FMI) aims to foster creative messengers with a deep understanding of Scripture, who can challenge and change culture through storytelling. FMI offers biblical training married with mentoring in technical media skills and production. 21 AREAS OF TRAINING FMI combines media education with biblical study, intercession and worship, and practical discipleship in small groups. Through biblical training, FMI aims to equip students in the Word and the power of the Spirit to walk with confidence in their identity in Christ. During the first semester, incoming IHOPU students take classes in the Forerunner Curriculum, a foundational program of biblical study, in addition to their training in media. Students focus on cultivating a lifestyle of prayer, intimacy with God, and a love for the Word of God, while developing their skills in media. Students learn the principles and mechanics of storytelling from a Christian world view. Training under professionals, they study the nuts and bolts of taking a video from an idea to a finished production. MEDIA CURRICULUM The media training that FMI students receive mixes hands-on, in-the-field production experience with classes that stimulate them to become better communicators. We walk students through every stage of media production from pre-production to post-production including interviewing, editing, directing, scriptwriting, lighting, and camera operation amongst other skills. Training covers all genres of film production, with an emphasis on documentary and nonfiction. It is our aim that students who complete this program would have a passion for Jesus and a proficiency to craft compelling stories that have an impact on our culture. The Schools 21

22 Because study at Forerunner School of Ministry is centered around prayer, my pursuit of sound theological doctrine and my life of prayer were beautifully joined in my heart. 24 FORERUNNER MISSIONS SCHOOL Bringing together theological training, intimacy with Jesus, and practical equipping for ministry The Forerunner Missions School is a one-year program designed to equip students to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit as they engage in the Great Commission through worship, prayer, and missions in partnership with indigenous leaders. Forerunner Missions School is a senior year program for those who have completed three years at IHOPU, or who have similar credentials from other schools or training programs. Forerunner Missions School graduates will be equipped to join any missionarysending organization, and will be part of the convergence of the missions and prayer movements throughout the earth. TRAINING Students take classes and are immersed in the 24/7 prayer room. Training includes biblical study and preparation for cross-cultural ministry, including how to sustain a life of prayer in the missions field and how to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Students learn the implications of preaching the gospel of Jesus in another culture, the importance of praying as well as working to see a great harvest of souls, and biblical foundations of discipling new believers and building communities of prayer and worship, to see Jesus exalted in the nations. 24 International House of Prayer University

27 OUR STUDENTS STUDENT LIFE Building community and forming lifelong friendships is integral to the IHOPU experience The IHOPU experience is more than attending classes and spending time in the prayer room. Our student life activities are many and varied, from small group fellowship to athletics, from outreach to socializing. Whether in your home with roommates, having coffee with a friend at our cafés, exploring Kansas City, or sharing with your small group, you will find that this is a wonderful place to grow and study. In addition to social activities, such as intramural sports, international student events, and student-organized gatherings, there are many opportunities to engage in evangelistic outreaches and compassion ministry. STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION The Student Government Association represents the student body of IHOPU, contributing to a well-rounded student experience by organizing activities and opportunities for personal development. STUDENT FRIENDSHIP GROUPS Student friendship groups are led by IHOPKC staff. Groups meet weekly for pastoral care and accountability and to discuss practical issues of everyday life. Our Students 27

28 MINISTRY AND OUTREACH Ministry to one another, outreach, and evangelism are a natural outflow of spending time with Jesus. Each semester, our faculty and students participate in evangelistic and compassion outreaches and justice initiatives, in which we share the love of Jesus and minister to the needy in the power of the Holy Spirit. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS We invite you to join our rapidlygrowing community of international students. Since we opened our doors to international students in 2011, over 500 have attended from around 50 countries, including Switzerland, Ukraine, Egypt, India, China, Australia, and Colombia. CAMPUS Our 100,000-square-foot facility is bright and spacious, housing classrooms and lecture halls of all sizes, music and media studios, a café and cafeteria, a large covered patio, and the student library, which includes a computer lab, a growing body of reference books and journals, digital media, and printer access. 29 HOUSING While the majority of IHOPU students are responsible for their own accommodation (except students in the FSM Chinese Program), our Student Services personnel are available to help students find housing and roommates. We have new options for housing, so please check with us. FINANCES IHOPU is committed to affordable ministry training. After the freshman year, students can apply for work-study opportunities at IHOPKC. Also, as intercessory missionaries in training, full-time students can raise support through IHOPKC as tax-deductible donations. GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES Graduates of IHOPU are highly sought after by ministries, churches, and houses of prayer worldwide. These organizations recruit our students to intern with them during the summer or a semester of their upperclassman years and to serve full-time on completion of their studies. 31 STUDY FORMATS SEMESTER COURSES IHOPU Online Semester Courses parallel the on-campus IHOPU class course offerings. Our goal is to engage the mind with biblical understanding that produces transformation in the heart. First Semester All IHOPU Online students take the same first-semester courses, providing students with an overview of the core values and biblical training necessary to sustain a lifestyle of intimacy with Jesus and bold proclamation of the gospel. Semester Courses comprise five credit classes, consisting of live video interaction and on-demand videos, as well as reading, prayer, and homework assignments. Courses may be taken for credit or audit, and credit is transferable to the IHOPU on-campus program. SERIES COURSES Series Courses cover subjects not included in IHOPU s on-campus curriculum, while offering a similar course design to Semester Courses with the same interactive training and online student community. Courses include one-hour live video interaction with instructor and classmates each week, on-demand videos, and weekly homework assignments. Our two series are the Prophetic Worship Series and the Biblical Studies Series. Course topics include how to develop a worship team that flows in prophetic worship, the harp and bowl model of worship and prayer, and how to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible for our modern times and daily lives. 33 OUR FOUR INTERNSHIPS Preparing believers of all ages as intercessors, messengers, singers, and musicians for the growing prayer and missions movement throughout the earth Our internships exist to see people equipped with the Word of God, renewed in personal vision and devotion to Jesus, ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit, engaged in intercession, and committed to outreach and service. While each internship has a distinctive age limit, length, and schedule, they all share the same central training components: corporate prayer and worship, classroom instruction, practical ministry experience, outreach, and relationship-building. LEVITICUS 6:13 T he International House of Prayer Missions Base has continued in 24/7 worship-based prayer since We are an evangelical missions organization committed to praying for the release of the fullness of God s power and purpose, as we actively win the lost, heal the sick, feed the poor, make disciples, and impact every sphere of society. Our vision is to work in relationship with the Body of Christ to engage in the Great Commission, as we seek to walk out the two great commandments to love God and people. THE 24/7 PRAYER ROOM On September 19, 1999, a prayer and worship meeting began that continues to this day, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The prayer room is the heart of our ministry and influences all we do. Two biblical characters who inspire us in this are Anna, one of the first evangelists and intercessors in the New Testament, who prayed and fasted for over sixty years before Jesus first coming (Lk. 2:37), and King David, who organized and paid 4,000 musicians and 288 singers to worship God night and day (1 Chr. 9:33; 23:5; 25:7). Scripture teaches that persistent prayer is deeply connected to the release of the fullness of God s power and purpose (Lk. 18:7 8; Isa. 62:6 7). We are offering Jesus 24/7 worship, while contending for justice and for the power of the Holy Spirit to impact every sphere of society. Our vision as an intercessory missions base is to mobilize thousands of full-time intercessory missionaries who will live with passion for Jesus and compassion for people. 36 FULL-TIME SINGERS AND MUSICIANS King David established the full-time occupation of singers and musicians in the house of the Lord. He provided financially for 4,000 musicians and 288 singers to minister to the Lord day and night as their full-time occupation (1 Chr. 9:33; 16:37; 23:5; 25:7). FULL-TIME INTERCESSORY MISSIONARIES We refer to our full-time staff as intercessory missionaries. They raise their own support to work as full-time missionaries who reach out to others from a lifestyle of prayer and worship. Today, about 1,000 believers (staff, students, and interns) serve full-time, investing fifty hours per week as they go from the prayer room to the classroom, and then to ministry outreaches and works of service. 36 International House of Prayer University

37 COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE During our ten-year anniversary on September 19, 2009, we gathered together to make a solemn commitment, by the grace of God, to combine 24/7 prayers for justice with 24/7 works of justice. We believe we are better equipped to reach out to others when our lives are rooted in prayer and worship and focused on intimacy with God, as we intercede for a breakthrough of the fullness of God s power. 38 MISSIONS BASE LEADERSHIP MIKE BICKLE Director, International House of Prayer President, International House of Prayer University Mike Bickle pastored for 23 years before starting IHOPKC in He is the author of several books, including Passion for Jesus and Growing in Prayer. Mike and his wife, Diane, have been married since 1977, and have two married sons and five grandchildren. ALLEN HOOD Associate Director, International House of Prayer President Emeritus, International House of Prayer University Allen Hood (MDiv, Asbury Theological Seminary) had a rich history of pastoring, church planting, and equipping young adults before joining IHOPKC. He was one of the original worship leaders in the prayer room in Allen and his wife, Rachel, have three sons. DANIEL LIM Chief Executive Officer, International House of Prayer Daniel Lim (MA in world missions) trained at a Baptist seminary and served as a Baptist pastor in Southeast Asia. Daniel and his wife, Levi, have been part of our IHOPKC leadership team since the early days; they have a son, Samuel. MISTY EDWARDS Chief Singer, Global Prayer Room Misty Edwards helped start the International House of Prayer in 1999 and has been a worship leader here ever since. She serves on the senior leadership team. Our leadership team comprises over a hundred and fifty men and women with diverse experience, background, and training, who represent around twenty countries and thirty denominations and oversee fifty departments on our missions base. 40 STATEMENT OF FAITH THE WORD OF GOD We believe that only the sixty-six books of the Bible are the inspired and, therefore, inerrant Word of God. The Bible is the final authority for all we believe and for how we are to live. (Mt. 5:18; Jn. 10:35; 17:17; 2 Tim. 3:16 17; 2 Pet. 1:20 21) to the right hand of the Father, there to make intercession for the saints forever. He will return to earth again to reign in righteousness. We believe that God not only created the world, but also now upholds, sustains, governs, and providentially directs all that exists, and that He will bring all things to their proper consummation in Christ Jesus to the glory of His name. With the Son and the Holy Spirit, He made man, male and female, in His image. By intention He relates to people as Father, thereby forever declaring His goodwill toward them. In love He both seeks and receives penitent sinners. (Ps. 68:5; Isa. 64:8; Mt. 5:45; 7:11; Jn. 3:17; Rom. 8:15; 1 Pet. 1:17) GOD THE SON We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ (Messiah), the Son of God; that He is God incarnate, fully God and fully man; that He was eternally preexistent with the Father and the Holy Spirit; and that He was conceived and born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and offered Himself as a penal, substitutionary sacrifice for sinners. By His blood shed at the cross, He obtained for us eternal redemption, the forgiveness of sins, and life everlasting. He was raised bodily on the third day and ascended GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ baptizes believers in the Holy Spirit, in whom we are also sealed for the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit regenerates, forever indwells, and graciously equips the Christian for godly living and service. Subsequent to our conversion, the Spirit desires to fill, empower, and anoint believers for ministry and witness. We also believe that signs and wonders, as well as all the gifts of the Spirit described in the New Testament, are operative today and are designed to testify to the presence of the kingdom and to empower and edify the Church to fulfill its calling and mission. No ordinance, ritual, work, or any other activity on the part of man is required or accepted for his salvation. This saving grace of God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, also sanctifies us by enabling us to do what is pleasing in God s sight in order that we might be progressively conformed to the image of Christ. 41 unrest on earth. Satan was judged and defeated at the cross of Christ and will be cast forever into the lake of fire which has been prepared for him and his angels. (Isa. 14:10 17; Ezek. 28:11 19; Mt. 12:25 29; 25:41; Jn. 12:31; 16:11; Eph. 6:10 20; Col. 2:15; 2 Pet. 2:4; Jude 6; Rev. 12:7 9; 20:10) HUMANITY We believe that humanity, male and female, was originally created in the image of God, righteous and without sin. As a consequence of disobedience, all persons are sinners by both nature and choice, and are, therefore, spiritually dead and justly condemned as children of wrath in the sight of God, wholly unable to save themselves. (Gen. 1:1 3:22; Ps. 51:5; Isa. 53:5; Rom. 3:9 18; 5:12 21; Eph. 2:1 3) THE CHURCH We believe that the Church is God s primary instrument, through which He is fulfilling His redemptive purposes in the earth. To equip the saints for the work of ministry, God has given the Church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. We also affirm the priesthood of all believers and the importance of every Christian being joined with and actively involved in a local community of the saints. We believe that women, no less than men, are called and gifted to proclaim the gospel and do all the works of the kingdom. (Mt. 16:17 19; Acts 2:17 18, 42; Eph. 3:14 21; 4:11 16; 1 Tim. 2:11 15; Heb. 10:23 25; 1 Pet. 2:4 5, 9 10) SACRAMENTS We believe that water baptism and the Lord s Supper are the two ordinances of the Church, to be observed until the time of Christ s return. They are not a means of salvation, but are channels of God s sanctifying grace and blessing to the faithful in Christ Jesus. (Mt. 26:26 29; 28:19; Rom. 6:3 11; 1 Cor. 11:23 34; 1 Pet. 3:21) MISSIONS AND SERVICE We believe that God has called the Church to work together in unity and honor in preaching the gospel to all nations, in making disciples, and in remembering the poor and ministering to their needs through sacrificial giving and practical service. This ministry is an expression of the heart of the Lord Jesus Christ and is an essential part of the kingdom of God. (Isa. 58:6 12; 61:1; Mt. 5:1 7:28; 28:18 20; Lk. 4:18; 21:1 4; Gal. 2:10; 1 Tim. 6:8) LAST THINGS (Historic premillennialism with a victorious Church) We believe in the literal second coming of Christ at the end of this age, when He will return to earth personally and visibly to reign over the nations in His millennial kingdom. We believe that the Church will go through the Great Tribulation with great power and victory and will only be raptured at the end of the Great Tribulation. We also believe in and are praying for a great endtime harvest of souls and the emergence of a victorious Church that will experience an unprecedented unity, purity, and power in the Holy Spirit. (Ps. 2:7 9; 22:27 28; Mt. 24:36; Jn. 14:12; 17:20 26; Rom. 11:25 32; 1 Cor. 15:20 28, 50 58; Eph. 4:11 16; Phil. 3:20 21; 1 Thes. 4:13 5:11; 2 Thes. 1:3 12; Rev. 7:9 14) ETERNAL REWARD AND PUNISHMENT We believe that when Christians die, they pass immediately into the blessed presence of Christ, there to enjoy conscious fellowship with the Savior until the day of the resurrection and the glorious transformation of their bodies. The saved will receive eternal rewards and forever dwell in blissful fellowship with their great triune God. We also believe that when unbelievers die, they are consigned to hell, there to await the Day of Judgment when they shall be punished in the lake of fire with eternal, conscious, and tormented separation from the presence of God.
