1 BL101 OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Old Testament Survey is an introduction to the historical background and contemporary culture of the Old Testament. This course will include the chronology, the authors, and the relation between the books to illustrate a central message and modern application of this Testament. BL102 NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY New Testament Survey is an introduction to the historical background and contemporary culture of the New Testament. This course will include the chronology, the authors, and the relation between the books to illustrate a central message and modern application of this Testament. BL201 LUKE AND ACTS Luke and Acts is an overview of the two books in the New Testament written by Luke. This course will provide a historical background of the life of Christ and the birth of the early church while emphasizing the apostolic doctrine and the parallel experience necessary for salvation today. BL202 POETIC AND WISDOM BOOKS Poetic and Wisdom Books is a comprehensive study of the Old Testament poetical writings found in Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. This course will endeavour to outline the historical and cultural backgrounds of each book and author while encouraging the application of their message and principles to a current Christian lifestyle. BL203 LEVITICUS AND HEBREWS Leviticus and Hebrews is a comprehensive study of the correlation of the two books through background and doctrinal content. This course will analyze the person and work of Christ found in the teaching of Hebrews and the typology of Leviticus providing an understanding of the symbolic teaching of New Testament salvation found in the Old Testament. BL301 GENERAL EPISTLES General Epistles is an outline of the books from James to Jude and I & II Corinthians including the chronology during the writings. This course will provide understanding of the
2 events of the New Testament through a historical and cultural background of each epistle and the application for present day Christianity. BL302 PAULINE EPISTLES Pauline Epistles is an outline of the writings of Apostle Paul from Galatians to Philemon including the chronology in relation to the New Testament. This course will provide understanding of the letters through a historical and cultural background of each epistle and the application for present day Christianity. BL303 MAJOR AND MINOR PROPHETS Major and Minor Prophets is a comprehensive study of the divided kingdom and captivity and found in the Old Testament. This course will provide an understanding of the major prophecies and fulfillments throughout these writings, an outline of the authors, and the relevance to present day. BLA101 ELEMENTARY ANCIENT GREEK I This course introduces the ancient Greek language and will examine its alphabet, basic grammar, and vocabulary. This introduction presupposes no previous knowledge of the language. BLA201 ELEMENTARY ANCIENT GREEK II A continuation of Elementary Ancient Greek I BLA302 READING HEBREW An intensive course designed to complete the study of basic grammar and to begin the development of skills in the reading the Tanakh. CO101 COMMUNICATION AND PREACHING Communication and Preaching is the overview of the preparation and delivery of effective sermons. This course will outline the calling of a preacher and provide the framework of a variety of techniques for writing and delivery as well as a practical component for receiving constructive feedback to aid in ministry development. CO102 RESEARCH METHODS Research Methods is an introduction to the process of research and the application for church leadership. This course will include topics such as data collection and the validity and ethics of research as well as guidelines for sharing collected material in both oral and written communication.
3 CO104 MARKETING You are creative, made in the image of THE Creator. Join a team that will help you develop your creative gifts through training, discussion and assignments. Most assignments will be completed during our in-class lab and will impact the promotion of Northeast Christian College world-wide (i.e. - college marketing campaign, promotional items, graphics, social media, preview weekend, etc.). CO105 INTRO TO GRAPHIC DESIGN Intro to Graphic Design is an introductory course to graphics, photography and design. This course will focus on the production of our school yearbook and other design techniques. EN101 ENGLISH COMPOSITION English Composition is an introduction to the conventions of academic writing and critical thinking, with a focus on the skills necessary to construct college level written work. This course provides an overview of the basic writing process and the general methods of communicating meaning through writing. EN300 THESIS Thesis is a six-semester course that focuses on constructing a scholarly paper, to be presented to the dissertation board in the final semester. HT101 WORLD CIVILIZATION HISTORY This course will expose students to ancient Mediterranean history, exploring the cultures and history of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and the Roman Empire. The course is designed to help students understand who they are, why they hold certain values and why societies have the institutions they do. The lessons will help students study various historical ideas, systems, and philosophies, making important biblical connections to the cultures of the geographical areas of the Mediterranean. HT201 CHURCH HISTORY Church History is an overview of significant events and notable persons throughout the history of Christianity. This course will discuss the development of major doctrines from the apostolic age to modern times, including their founders and basis of origin, with a detailed focus on the heritage of the Pentecostal experience. HT202 OLD TESTAMENT ARCHAEOLOGY An archaeological survey which examines the topographies and cultural backgrounds of the Old Testament to illuminate the biblical text within it's ancient context. This course
4 covers general archaeological principles, archaeological terminology, methodology, chronology, and interpretation as they relate to biblical studies of the Old Testament. HU101 INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY HU102 INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY HU103 APPRECIATION OF THE ARTS LD301 CHURCH STRUCTURE Church Structure is a comprehensive study of the Biblical definition and the guidelines given in scripture for a successful New Testament church and it s role in God s plan. This course will focus on the understanding of leadership roles and ministries ordained by God to guide and support the church as a local assembly. LD302 CHURCH LAW Church Law is an introduction to Canadian law in relation to church assemblies. This course will focus on the meaning and purpose of the law in accordance with the church and governing boards and the understanding of regulations and compliance with government protocols and proceedings. LD303 CHURCH POLICIES AND PROCEDURES This course is an introduction and exploration of policies and procedures as related to the church. Example of topics covered will be insurance considerations, emergency community response, purchasing of real estate, church security concerns to name a few. MS101 MISSIOLOGY MT101 CHURCH FINANCES This course will provide an understanding of Church Finances. It will teach accountability in our dealings with Canada Revenue Agency and Church membership. It will define accounting terms, and provide the skills needed to read and understand financial documents and the basics of Church accounting. The practical components will be setting up a Church based computer accounting program for a Churches' financial transactions and donors contributions, doing deposits, cheques, contributions, month end, printing financial reports, charitable receipts and preparing reports for a financial business meeting. PH201 LEADERSHIP AND ETHICS
5 Leadership and Ethics is an overview of the definition and practice of Biblical leadership and the application in current church organization. This course will provide guidance in practical skills such as time management, organization and problem solving, while encouraging the development of a positive attitude and a teamwork approach to ministry. PT101 SPIRITUAL FORMATION / HOLINESS Spiritual Formation/Holiness is an introduction to the Biblical definition and principles of holiness (wholeness). This course will guide your growth in a personal relationship with God through an interactive discipleship format: including prayer, devotionals, sharing and in-class reading assignments. Be shaped in His image (Romans 8:29), transform your mind (Romans 12:2), know Jesus. PT102 HONOR CREDIT Honor Credit is a prerequisite for participation in hands-on ministry through Chorale and Weekend Ministry. This course focuses on the benefits of accountability and a volunteer experience. SC101 BIOLOGY / CREATION This course is an overview of various biology topics. The topics to be covered in the first five weeks of the course include scientific method, taxonomy, cell structure, function and reproduction. TH101 DOCTRINE I Doctrine I is an introduction to the essential Biblical doctrines. This course will focus on the Bible, the existence of God, salvation, and the church as the body of Christ to provide strategies for defending the Truth and encourage a desire to study God s Word independently. TH102 SOTERIOLOGY Soteriology is a comprehensive study of the New Birth experience. This course will discuss the New Testament doctrine of salvation to facilitate the skills necessary to share the message of redemption effectively and cultivate the desire to reach the world as commissioned by Christ. TH201 DOCTRINE II Doctrine II is an exhaustive study of the essential Biblical doctrines introduced in the prerequisite course Doctrine I. This course will focus on the existence of God, the spiritual realm, and eternity to provide strategies for defending the Truth and encourage a desire to study God s Word independently.
6 TH203 BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION Biblical Interpretation is an overview of common perspectives contrary to Christianity and the methodology of defending the Bible against secular human reasoning. This course will provide resources and knowledge to defend Biblical truth accurately while engaging in practical exercises to develop confidence and debate skills in both written and oral communication. TH204 CHRISTOLOGY Christology is a comprehensive study of the person, Jesus Christ, and His teachings recorded in Matthew, Mark and John. This course will outline the chronological events of Christ s life, his divine identity and his ministry and emphasize the relevance of his sermons and parables to present day Christ-like living. TH301 COMPARATIVE RELIGIONS Comparative Religions is an overview of major world religions, contemporary cults, and predominant sects of Christianity including their histories and distinctive doctrines. This course provides insight into a variety of belief systems while equipping students with a scriptural perspective to have faith discussions with adherents of various religions. TH302 PNEUMATOLOGY Pneumatology is a comprehensive study of the Holy Spirit through scripture focusing on the nature, the gifts, and the fruit of the Spirit and the relevance to spiritual ministry. This course will aim to provide Christian life application including personal growth and the knowledge of prayer strategies with those pursuing salvation. TH303 ESCHATOLOGY Eschatology is a study of Biblical prophecies that are pending fulfillment. This course will focus on methods of interpretation of topics such as end-time doctrine including the return of Christ, the judgment of humanity, and eternal life.
