We look forward with joy, and sometimes wonder about what Christmas will be like. No matter how we see Christmas, we wait for it. The season of Advent is a season of waiting. We are waiting for the little baby Jesus to be born. This little baby who is the fulfillment of God s promise to send a great light in the darkness, to give sight to the blind, to put an end to sin and death, to fill us with comfort and hope, to give us more than we could ever hope for or imagine and to fill us with his peace and joy. During Advent we also remember Mary, the mother of Jesus, waiting for that great moment of joy; giving birth. She waited in patience, in faith, and in the love she shared with Joseph. We pray for a belief in our own lives that God is with us, that God has an interest in our lives, and that God calls us to do good things in our lives. 2 DECEMBER Virtue: Charity Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was devoted to good works and acts of charity. (Act 9:36) Catholic Graduate Expectation: A Caring Family Member Principles of Catholic Social Teaching: Option for the Poor and Vulnerable OVERVIEW OF THE VIRTUE OF CHARITY The virtue of Charity means being generous with our presence, time, and money.

3 Charity allows us to give freely without expecting anything in return. The virtue of charity encompasses a range of small acts and habits that affects our own immediate surroundings as well as the larger global community. It can be as simple as giving someone a smile or it can be expressed on a larger scale through raising funds for world organizations. Catholic Graduate Expectation -- I CARE! A CARING FAMILY MEMBER WHO: Relates to family members in a loving, compassionate and respectful manner. Recognizes human intimacy and sexuality as God given gifts, to be used as the creator intended. PRINCIPLES OF CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING OPTION FOR THE POOR AND VULNERABLE: Catholic teaching proclaims that a basic moral test is how our most vulnerable members are faring. In a society marred by deepening divisions between rich and poor, our tradition recalls the story of the Last Judgment (Matthew 25:31-46) and instructs us to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. We come together as one family. As Catholics, we believe that the Sacrament of Baptism is the source of that new life in Christ. We are invited to begin our faith journey toward full communion with Christ s body, the Church. Our First Year: Rooted in Christ we Belong In creating us, God expressed his love for us as members of his family and calls us to share that love with one another. Belonging describes our membership that gives us assurance of inclusion, acceptance and sense of satisfaction as members of one another. Christmas is the feast of giving. Christmas is the one time in the year when everyone is sure to give and receive a present, even if be only a Christmas card. People spend a lot of time and money shopping for the perfect Christmas gift. At Christmas we celebrate the mystery that "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (John 3:16). God gives, and the people of God give, and that is Christmas. If Christmas is the feast of giving, then the question of what to give and how to give becomes very important. After all what is worth doing is worth doing well. How can we improve on the quality of our giving? How can we improve on the quality of our Christmas celebration? The beautiful story we read during the Advent season is the story of Mary visiting with Elizabeth. What gift did Mary bring to Elizabeth? We are not told that she brought foodstuff, although she might as well have brought some. We are told she brought just one thing: herself. She gave Elizabeth the gift of her very presence. And, dear friends, this is the best and the hardest gift of all. It is easy to send flowers, it is easy to send a parcel, chocolates, but to give the gift of ourselves, to make the time to be with somebody, that is the gift that many people long for but do not receive at Christmas. We must find the time to visit and be with people. This is the greatest gift because its value cannot be calculated in terms of money. Mary gave to Elizabeth what she needed when she needed it. 6 Intermediate Volleyball On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, the Intermediate boys volleyball team had a volleyball tournament at The Divine Infant Catholic School. We versed The Divine Infant and Prince of Peace. The players on the team were Garshan, Allen, Alex, Kenneth, Victor, David A., Dominic, and Peter. We played against The Divine Infant first in the tournament and lost both sets. The next round, they played against Prince of Peace and we won both sets. The final results ended being Prince of Peace came 3 rd, Rene Goupil 2 nd, and Divine Infant came 1 st. We all had fun despite the fact we didn t end up getting first. We had a great team as all team players cooperated and we played well. Special thanks to our coach, Ms. Cheung! (Written By: Alex Chiu and Garshan G.) On Friday, November 9, 2018, the Intermediate girls volleyball tournament took place in Prince of Peace. The girls volleyball tournament was amazing. Though we didn t win, we still had fun and we loved the feeling of blood rushing and heart pounding experiences. Even though we got 3 rd place playing against 3 other school teams, we tried our best. 7 Student Led Learning Walk On Wednesday, November 14, 2018 was our school s student led learning walk in the gym. Every class went in to explore all the nicely displayed work presented by all the different grades and classes. Our Grade 7/8 class participated with our reading buddies, Ms. Cook s Kindergarten s class and went into the gym. Together we explore during our walk, we had to write on a sheet of pink paper of What We See, What We Think, What We Wonder. In addition, the superintendent, Kevin Malcolm came to explore the Student Led Learning Walk. The Student Led Learning Walk was a success and a great learning experience. (Written By: David Sokunbi)

8 Primary Soccer The Primary Boys competed in their soccer tournament on Tuesday December 4th, 2018 at St. Gabriel Lalemont. The boys did an excellent job and managed to win, lose and tie their tournament games. It was a fantastic day! Great work boys! Special thanks to their coach, Mrs. Alampi! The Primary Girls competed in their soccer tournament on Thursday December 6th, 2018 at St. Gabriel Lalemont. The girls did a fantastic job and managed to win and tie their tournament games. 9 Christmas Concert On Thursday, December 13, 2018, our school had their Christmas Concert at 1 p.m. Many parents came to support their children. Special thanks to all the teachers! It was success and fun experience for all the children and parents. Merry Christmas to everyone! 11 Advent Lunch On Friday, December 14, 2018 was our school s Advent Lunch. The Grade 7/8 class helped set up the gym and food. During lunch time, all classes went to the class for the Advent Lunch. We enjoyed our pizza, fruits, vegetables and ice cream. The gym was all decorated and we had some wonderful Christmas music. Everyone was gathered together to celebrate the coming of Jesus. Even Heritage Daycare participated with us. After lunch, Ms. Cheung and her Grade 7/8 class helped to clean up the mess. It was a memorable and festival experience.
