Welcome TO OUR GUESTS We want to welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at fpcmacon.org. SPIRITUAL CARE If you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please speak to one of the pastors after the service. CHILDREN S CHECK-IN We are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of nursery-aged children to check in their children before they go to the nursery. Check in is available at the terminals in the Brickyard or at the desk in the nursery. The process is quick and easy and volunteers are available to help. Visiting parents of children ages 4K through sixth grade may check in at the Cornerstone desk with any of our Children s Ministry staff or volunteers. CHILDREN S BIBLE LESSON We offer a specifically designed program for children in pre-k through first grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort the children from the sanctuary to their classroom before the Hymn of Preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick up their children following the service. Parents of children in pre-k through first grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11:15 AM worship service. NURSERY Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a mother/infant room located in the nursery with a live video feed of the service, as well as a cry room downstairs from the sanctuary for parents of fussy children with an audio feed. Ushers are available to direct you. FLOWERS The poinsettias in the Sanctuary are given by many members to the glory of God and in loving memory or honor of their loved ones. Hearing assistance devices are in the Narthex for worshippers with a hearing disorder. 2
Corporate Worship We welcome you to our worship service today. It is our sincere hope and prayer that you will find your worship experience to be encouraging, challenging, invigorating, and renewing you in the knowledge of God and the wonderful hope that we have through the Gospel of Christ. Most of all, we hope that God will be glorified by the worship we render to him. WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. - Isaiah 9:2-3, 6 7 3
PRAYER FOR GOD S PRESENCE ANTHEM Glory to God from Messiah... G. F. Handel Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, goodwill toward men. HYMN Joy to the World Joy to the world! The Lord is come: let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare him room, and heav n and nature sing, And heav n and nature sing, and heav n and heav n and nature sing. Joy to the earth! The Savior reigns: let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat the sounding joy. No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make his blessings flow far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, far as, far as the curse is found. He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove The glories of his righteousness and wonders of his love, And wonders of his love, and wonders, wonders of his love. 4
CORPORATE SCRIPTURE READING There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins. - Isaiah 11:1 5 ***Seating Interlude*** 5
SCRIPTURE READING Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen. The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it he gave them their land (Canaan) as an inheritance. All this took about 450 years. And after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will. Of this man's offspring God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised. Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation. For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterances of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. And though they found in him no guilt worthy of death, they asked Pilate to have him executed. And when they had carried out all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead, and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people. And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers, this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus. Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. - from Acts 13:
HYMN What Child Is This? What child is this, who laid to rest, on Mary s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. Why lies he in such mean estate, where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear; for sinners here the silent Word is pleading. Nails, spears, shall pierce him through; the cross be borne for me, for you: Hail, hail the Word made flesh, the babe, the son of Mary. So bring him incense, gold and myrrh; come, peasant, king to own him; The King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him. Raise, raise the song on high, the virgin sings her lullaby: Joy, joy for Christ is born, the babe, the son of Mary. 7
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING Online giving may be done by texting fpcmacon to (During the offering, please sign the Friendship Pad and pass it down.) Cradle Hymn Isaac Watts/Kim Andre Arnesen Hush! my dear, lie still and slumber, holy angels guard thy bed! Heavenly blessings without number, gently falling on thy head. See the kindly shepherds round Him, Telling wonders from the sky! Where they sought Him, there they found Him, with His Virgin mother by. See the lovely babe a-dressing; lovely infant, how He smiled! When He wept, the mother's blessing soothed and hush'd the holy child. May'st thou live to know and fear Him, trust and love Him all thy days; Then go dwell for ever near Him, see His face, and sing His praise! We encourage any children second grade and above to continue in corporate worship if the parent wishes. All others will leave through the left for Bible Lesson in Cornerstone. 8

Every human being longs for a savior of some type. We look for someone or something that will solve our problems, ease our pain, or grant the most elusive goal of all, happiness. From the pursuit of success in business to the discovery of a perfect mate or friend, we make our search. Even in the preoccupation with sports we show a hope for a savior. As a sports season ends with far more losers than winners, we hear the cry from cities across the land - Wait till next year! Then comes the draft or a new crop of rookies, and the fans pin their hopes and dreams on the new kid who will bring glory to the team. The rookie, the new client, the new machine, the news that will arrive in tomorrow s mail all are invested with more hope than any creature can possibly deliver. The burst of light that flooded the fields of Bethlehem announced the advent of a Savior who was able to do the task. We note that the newborn Savior is also called Christ the Lord. To the astonished shepherds these titles were pregnant with meaning. This Savior is the Christ, the long-awaited Messiah of Israel. Every Jew remembered the promise of God that someday the Messiah, the Lord s anointed, would come to deliver Israel. This Messiah-Savior is also Lord. He not only will save His people but He will be their King, their Sovereign. The angel declares that this Savior-Messiah-Lord is born unto you. The divine announcement is not an oracle of judgment but the declaration of a gift. The newborn King is born for us. - R. C. Sproul 13
