This weekend I determined to ask you if you post anything from Elisabeth because she was my #1 mentor (so to speak) and lady speaker/teacher. I just can't believe GOD answered without me asking. Ha - I'm so excited how he used you to answer this 'thought' that I never got out to you - as if He took it as a prayer. Oh what a lady she is. She's been out of ministry for a long while now, but her legacy lives on. No woman, or even men for that matter, would go wrong to get to know her. Her radio shows and all were geared to women, but the men just loved her as well and would tune in & enjoy her books as well. What a gift from GOD she was/is. I hope you'll post more to this thread, anything that you feel led to, from her works. Bless you completely Sister Star. Thanks you! No matter what befell her, she kept going, kept pressing on. It's really very inspirin g. Have you seen Beyond gates of Splendor? It amazes me that after 45 years her and the other women were still in tea rs over their husbands dying. Their testimonies are amazing! God bless you sister!! You are such an encouragement on here! 3 Re: Prayer as Incense by Elisabeth Elliot - posted by StarofG0D (), on: 2011/4/5 9:47 Prayer is compared in the Bible to incense.  Let my prayer be counted as incense before thee,â wrote the psalmist, an d the angel who stood b e f o r e t h e a l t a r w i t h t h e g o l d e n c e n s e r i n Revelation 6 was given incens e to mingle with the prayers of the saints. Incense was very expensive, blended by a perfumer according to a strict form ula. It appears to serve no particularly useful purpose. Its smoke and fragrance soon dissipate. Couldn t incense be do ne without? Prayer is like incense. It costs a great deal. Sometimes it seems to accomplish little (as we mortals assess things). It soo n dissipates. But God likes the fragrance. It was God s idea to arrange the work of the tabernacle to include a special a ltar for incense. We can be pretty sure He included all that was necessary and nothing that was unnecessary. Jesus prayed: He offered thanksgiving, He interceded for others, He made petitions. That the Son coequal, coeternal, consubstantial with thefatherâ should come to the Father in prayer is amystery. That we, God s children, should be notonly permitted but commanded also to come is a mystery. How can we change things by prayer? How can we  mov eâ a sovereign and omnipotent God? We do not understand. We simply obey because it is a law of the universe, as we obey other laws of the universe, knowing only that this is how things have been arranged: the book falls to the floor in ob edience to the law of gravity if I let go of it; spiritual power is released through prayer. I could say,  God can make my hands clean if He wants to,â or I could wash them myself. Chances are God wonâ t make my hands clean. That s a job He leaves up to me. His omnipotence is not impaired by His having ordained my pa rticipation, whether it be in the washing of hands with soap or the helping of a friend with prayer. Jesus Christ redeemed the world by the laying down of His life, a perfect sacrifice, once for all. Yet He is in the business, as David Redding says, of  maintenance and repair.â He lets us participate with Him in that business by the laying down of our own lives. One way of laying down our lives is by praying for somebody. In prayer I am saying, in effect,  my life for yours.â My ti me, my energy, my thought,my concern, my concentration, my faithâ here they are, for you. So it is that I participate in thework of Christ. So it is that no work of faith, no labor of love, no smallest prayer is ever lost, but, like the smoke of the incense on the golden altar, rises from the hand of the angel before God. The temptations of discontentment that can arise. Hope it encourages som eone.. In a way, made me think of this verse, Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; The voice of self beckons: Get out there and do something important and worthwhile. The voice of my blond-haired daughter invites me: Mommy, letâ s play house. I ll be the Mommy, you be the Daddy. The voice of self lures me: Stand up! Be counted among the useful and make the world a better place. The voice of my infant son cries from his crib: I pick him up and we rock together in the silence and stillness. 4 The voice of my grown-up four-year-old daughter announces proudly: Mommy, I colored this picture of Pooh for you. The voice of self tempts me: Make sure your talent is noticed and appreciated and bask in the spotlight. Three small voices plead: Mommy, weâ re thirsty, will you get us a drink of water? The voice of self cries out as I wipe a little nose for the twentieth time: Lord, isnâ t there a more glamorous job for me than this? I know Amy was Elisabeth's favorite and why she wrote her Biography and one of the Newsletters talks about when E.E. visited with Corrie Ten Boom. I'll have to find that one and post it.
