1 IMPORTANT NOTICE ADDENDUM TO THE LOUISVILLE SCOTTISH RITE/KOSAIR SHRINE UNITY CLASS TO BE HELD ON JUNE 5, 2010 PLEASE READ BEFORE PROCEEDING TO BROCHURE There has been a change to the requirements for the Louisville Scottish Rite/Kosair Shrine Unity Class: After further consideration the Scottish Rite and Kosair Shrine have removed the requirement that you join both bodies during this Unity Class. If you want to join only the Scottish Rite, you may do so without the requirement to join the Shrine. Also, you may join the Shrine without the requirement to join the Scottish Rite. It is hopeful that you will take this great opportunity to join both bodies and receive more light in Masonry through the Scottish Rite, and join the Nobles of Kosair in their great philanthropy to help kids. So there s still time to take advantage of this year s special opportunity to continue your Masonic journey and receive more light in Masonry by receiving the Valley of Louisville Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite degrees and being initiated as a Kosair Shrine Mason in the upcoming Unity Class on Saturday, June 5. In a unique, one-day session, you may join the Louisville Scottish Rite and Kosair Shrine at the special initiation fee of $400 for both. Or, you may choose to join one or the other at Unity Class fees of $150 for the Scottish Rite and/or $250 for the Shrine (this includes a single jeweled fez). Please note that these special fees are only available for the June Unity Class and for Masons residing within the jurisdictions of the Scottish Rite Valley of Louisville and Kosair Shrine. Attached are petitions for the Louisville Scottish Rite and Kosair Shrine. Please complete one or both petitions and return them today with the appropriate initiation fee. If you ve been thinking about joining the Scottish Rite and/or Shrine, don t let this special chance pass. Petitions must be received by noon on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

God bless, Roger Barnett, 33º Deputy of the Supreme Council in Kentucky Kentucky Scottish Rite Masons Helping Today s Children to Communicate Scottish Rite Freemasonry involvement in assisting children to communicate; In the 1950 s the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States initiated the Scottish Rite Aphasia and Dyslexia Program. The results obtainedfromthisprogramhaveledtothe establishment of the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Development Centers in the Southern Jurisdiction of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. In the 170 plus Centers in the Southern Jurisdiction children are provided with treatment for language disorders. To hear to speak---to understand; these are the basic steps of Language development in the young child s mind. Yet, these are normal, healthy pre-school age children who are shut off from communication. These children have language problems that arise from various reasons, problems that affect therichandthepooralike.itisestimated that10%ofchildrenintheunitedstates have speech and other learning disabilities. Scottish Rite Masons in Kentucky steppeduptotheplatein1985and answeredthecalltohelp,aidandassist children with Language Development. Each of the Kentucky Scottish Rite Valleys formed a Foundation to fund a Childhood Language Center in their respective area. The Center in Louisville has served Children since opening in 1985; the Program is supervised by the Speech Pathologist located at Cardinal Hill-Easter Seals of Louisville. The Childhood Language Development Centers in the Valley of Covington opened in the early 1990 sandisunderthesupervisionofthe Speech Pathologist located at Cardinal Hill of Northern Kentucky, the Center in Madisonville is the only Center in Kentucky that is located in the Scottish Rite Temple, the children are under the supervisionofthespeechpathologistofmathis& Wempe Therapy Associates, the West Kentucky Center opened in the early 1990 s. The Center in Lexington opened in the early 1990 s, the children are under the supervision of the Speech Pathologist located with Horn, Richardson and Associates. It is our MISSION in Kentucky Scottish Rite Freemasonry to provide treatment Centers for our young pre-school age childrenbetweentheagesof2to5yearswho have difficulty speaking and/or understanding the spoken word. These services are available to all children, regardless of race, creed or national origin. Each memberofthescottishriteisavitalpartofthis very important undertaking. Scottish Rite Conferral The conferral of degrees in the Scottish Rite is quite different from the first Three Degrees you received in your local Blue Lodge. Philanthropy Shriners are passionate about serving mankind through Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shriners also support local community charities like our own Kosair Charities that help children across Kentucky and in Southern Indiana. Shriners Hospitals for Children is an international health care system dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. The hospitals focus on four specialized areas of care: Orthopedic, Burns, Spinal Cord Injury and Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate. One of these hospitals in located nearby in Lexington. Every Kosair Shriner is a part of Kosair Charities. This special philanthropic organization began in the 1920 s and is dedicated to helping children through support given to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Kosair Children s Hospital, local children s convalescent homes, research centers and many other agencies dedicated to helping children. Kosair Charities believes the quality of a child s tomorrow depends to a large extent on the child s health, medical treatment, and the wellness support the child receives today. Kosair Charities has awarded more than $216 million in grants to agencies that support its mission. Fun There are many social events and activities at Kosair Temple dinners, dances, parties, tours, conventions, parades, picnics and, yes, theannualkosairshrinecircus.notonlyisthecircusagrandevent for the family and general public, but also, ticket sales enable the Shrinetotaketothecircus,freeofcharge,thousandsofchildreneach year that could not otherwise afford to go.
