Brethren, we have met to worship And adore the Lord our God; Will you pray with all your power, While we try to preach the Word? All is vain unless the Spirit Of the Holy One comes down; Brethren, pray, and holy manna Will be showered all around. 2. Brethren, see poor sinners round you Slumb'ring on the brink of woe; Death is coming, hell is moving, Can you bear to let them go? See our fathers and our mothers, And our children sinking down; Brethren, pray and holy manna Will be showered all around. 3. Sisters, will you join and help us? Moses' sister aided him; Will you help the trembling mourners Who are struggling hard with sin? Tell them all about the Savior, Tell them that He will be found; Sisters, pray, and holy manna Will be showered all around. 4. Let us love our God supremely, Let us love each other, too; Let us love and pray for sinners, Till our God makes all things new. Then He'll call us home to heaven, At His table we'll sit down; Christ will gird Himself, and serve us With sweet manna all around. 19.

7 DEALING WITH FEAR AS CHURCH LEADERS JUDGES 7:1,7, JOSHUA 1: INTRODUCTION: Fear is described as FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL. It has been established that the word FEAR NOT appears 365 times in the Bible. By inference, given 365 days in a calendar year, to every true child of God including those saddled with leadership responsibilities, the word of God is fear not for each day in a year Is. 43:1-3. Leadership is quiet exciting. It is a platform to transform people and situations through quality service. It is an opportunity to impact lives through the impartation of inspiration and encouragement. But as rewarding as leadership is, leaders at all levels, secular and spiritual are sometimes assailed by fears. The first charge God gave Joshua after assuming leadership role further to the home call of Moses was to be courageous and fearless Josh. 1:5-9. Like Joshua in his days, leaders today are bedeviled with (A) Fear of Failure (B) Fear of making wrong decisions (c) Fear of criticism (d) Fear of being misunderstood (E) Fear of Persecution (F) Fear of rejection (G) Fear of the unknown (I) Fear of displeasing people (J) Fear of stepping on toes etc DANGER Many leaders on account of FEAR (a) Abandon their dreams and God given visions (b) Put a bar of limitation upon their potential (c) Get crippled in enthusiasm and allow irrational thinking sets in. (d) Terminate their journey to destiny and divine destination. THE GIDEON STORY Judges 7:1-7; 2 Kings 6:16 The fearful were excluded from the divine assignment given to Gideon to avoid defeat and disappointment. They were not part of the testimony of the wining TEAM. 18. H. Pray that God will send HELP to us from ABOVE to facilitate the development of our lands that are fallow. 5. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK SUNDAY, 3 RD JUNE, 2018 THEME: THE CHOSEN PEOPLE READINGS: Psalm 95:1-7; 1 Samuel 7:4-16; 1 Peter 2:1-10; John 15:1-5. The text of 1 Peter 2: 1-10 is an exhortation to the Church of the kind of life she is obligated to live because of who she is. Peter in the beginning verse; urge the Church to refrain from wicked ill-will, deliberate dishonesty, pretended piety and love, resentful discontent, and backbiting lies. He opined that the New Life which the faith community affords requires strong desire for the Word of God which is the nourishment for spiritual growth. Further motivation to run away from sin is the goodness of God which the members of the faith community have experienced. The Apostle Peter in verses 4-10 dwell on the privileges that accrues to those who through their personal relationship with Christ have become members of the faith community. The central theme of the passage is: Identity of the Christian Church. We live in a world today peopled by men and women with identity crisis. That is why at the least provocation people will usual ask do you know who I am or do you know whom you are talking to. There is a lot discussion in our day of self-concept or self-identity. How do we view ourselves? It is important to note that Christian selfhood is not defined by our pedigree but rather in terms of what God has done in us. A fundamental question any human being must answer is WHO AM I? Who are you? It is only in understanding our identity that we can fulfill our destiny. From the text of our Scripture, The Church is described as a God-Chosen one, a God-pitied one, a God-possessed one, a God-sanctified one. The following points are worth noting with regards to the Christian Community: I. THE DIVINE ORIGIN OF THE CHURCH. An elect race. Separated, called, chosen, quickened. Not a casual result out of ordinary forces. This use of eklektongenos (Elect race)is a fundamental cure to racism, classism and ethnicity. 7.

8 II. HER FUNCTION IN THE WORLD A royal priesthood. Here king and priest are blended to show the power and function of the priesthood. We plead with man for God and with God for man: the regal kings are the saints of God. III. THE BEAUTY OF HER CHARACTER A holy nation. With us holiness frequently is a bundle of negation, an emptiness; but holiness is a cluster of positive glories, the glory of courage, the gleam of tenderness, the radiance of mercy. IV. HER PRECIOUSNESS TO GOD. A peculiar people. His delight, joy, resting place. It is easy to depreciate. It takes a wise man to see the background as well as the figure on it. If the Church can be chosen, royal, priestly, beauteous, dear to God, she wants no earthly help. V. HER WORK IN THE WORLD That ye may show forth the excellences of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light." a. Every quickened soul has its own story to tell. There is a gospel according to you and me. The truth of God is the gathering up of all these gospels. b. We have the power to utter praise. c. We have the motive -- gratitude for deliverance from darkness. Brothers and sisters this a clarion call on us this week to know the children of who we are. To whom much is given much is also is expected. As the Apostle Paul exhorts in Philippians 2: 15 That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. Lights have a very cheering influence, and so have Christians. A Christian ought to be a comforter; with kind words on his lips, and sympathy in his heart, he should have a cheering word for the sons of sorrow. The text of 1 Peter 2: 1-10 draws on the covenant relationship of the Believers to God (Exo. 19: 5-6; Deut. 7: 6). As with every covenant the blessedness we receive is a function of keeping to the terms of the covenant. 8. H. For enquiries call: Apart from God, the people of the world are living in spiritual deception and darkness, which causes them to have a twisted and misrepresented view of life, values and religion. As a result, they follow their own immoral ways of life, rejecting the truth of God s Word. In contrast, followers of Christ have a different worldview and values, which stand out from the ungodly beliefs, behaviors and lifestyles that are common in the rest of society. Out of loyalty and devotion to Jesus, his followers strive to be blameless, pure and without fault so they can effectively show and communicate Christ s message of hope and life to those who do not know him. In a spiritually dark world, Christ s followers must shine like stars in the universe, reflecting God s light and showing others the way to him. FOOD FOR THOUGHT 1. FAMILY IS NOT ABOUT BLOOD. IT IS ABOUT WHO IS WILLING TO HOLD YOUR HAND WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST. 2. NEVER CONFUSE PEOPLE WHO ARE ALWAYS AROUND YOU WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU. 3. FRIENDSHIP IS NOT ABOUT PEOPLE WHO ACT TRUE TO YOUR FACE. IT IS ABOUT PEOPLE WHO REMAIN TRUE BEHIND YOUR BACK. 4. DO NOT BLAME PEOPLE FOR DISAPOINTING YOU, BLAME YOURSELF FOR EXPECTING TOO MUCH FROM THEM. 9.
